If Australia lose they have to go into same group as India, Bangladesh and Afghanistan or W Indies.
But, given that the top two qualify for semis and won't play each other in said semis then that sets up a potential India/Australia final as well as being able to laugh long and hard at us!

If Australia win then they get USA, S Africa and Afg/WI BUT England will get through to the other group if they beat Namibia.

Can't see it MH , far too professional and it's total guesswork whether it will affect Australia deep into the competition so they'll try their best win or lose , although fully understandable if they rest a few.

Not to mention the potential long term repercussions that would tarnish the sport plus with this squad they know they can beat anyone and fear no team.

Pretty sure doesn't matter weather they win or not it's already pre determined which group they go in.

if scotland went through it would just mean australia facing one of south africa or the west indies in the semi finals rather than potentially england as well. not a lot in it really

Sounds clever to let Scotland win but it was never an option. Losing 2 points in the Super 8 could be catastrophic.

Backed England to win the whole thing before the last match against Namibia when it looked like they could lose out to rain so have laid off after last nights win. Nice profit to nothing if they make it which I still expect them to do.

This West Indies side is like watching a pub team. They are terrible. Fully expect England to get through this soft group after getting a helping hand from us. Would have been a travesty of justice if the Poms had gone out on weather grounds.

No not been betting due to irregular pitches, weather and inability to watch the games consistently

The only time I nearly had a bet was when USA beat Pakistan but the phone rang. I now have reason to believe the match was not fixed and Pakistan are just useless. A Pakistani lad from Sainsbury’s also confirmed my suspicion they were just sheite and although I missed my bet at 10-1 it was not a betting coup.

Looks like an India Australia final to me.

Just saying!

Tbf a great result for the game of cricket and more importantly their people might see an opportunity to join the human race.

Don't see aproblem for England. If they lose to US then they are out of course but the other match is the key. If SA win the Windies are out. If Windies win, SA will have a poorer run rate so if England can win comfortably they are through. SA can't afford to ease up so I expect Windies to lose that one.
Report Try My Best June 23, 2024 3:18 PM BST
Just got up after watching a tired and wearisome looking Australian side get beat fair and square. Totally out batted, out bowled out fielded and outthought and showed more guts and a will to win. Nothing at all flukey about their win which was thoroughly deserved. They were fantastic in all aspects of the game. I was appalled at the lack of urgency from Oz. Their fielding was garbage and they never looked like they were getting a wicket in the first 10 overs. Wade's keeping was appalling as was Agar's fielding and what was a concern was that they thought they could rock up and it would just happen. Apart from Maxwell they were all terrible. They have been under par all tournament and not a hope in hell of beating India. Won the toss and bowled. Ponting couldn't believe it. I don't think it would have made much difference looking back on the performance however. India v England final for me.
Report Hayden June 24, 2024 2:39 PM BST
Agree with the summary from last night TMB but harsh to treat test champions , world cup winners and ashes holders on one game albeit probably not at their best all tournament to date , no financial interest but hope they qualify as tournament semi-finals these days without this class an outfit just isn't the same.

Fully expect them to give India plenty to think about and it's a coin toss for me.
Report Hayden June 24, 2024 4:20 PM BST
Smart from Rohit here , sees an opportunity to damage Australian run rate and eliminate the team they all want to beat , whatever happens tonights game looks to be one not to miss.
Report Whisperingdeath June 24, 2024 4:26 PM BST
Absolutely right!

You have to go for the kill against a dangerous and wounded animal

Commentator, was it Harsha also mentioned group winner plays in Guyana. Always a chance of rain and possible washout but the Group winner will go through if no play possible.

You also need the right mentality and want to defeat a team as good as Australia
Report Whisperingdeath June 24, 2024 4:35 PM BST
On a mea culpa… I thought Rohit and Kohli opening was a tournament too far. It has not been a great success but z today Rohit has been awesome in thought and now is riding his luck.

This is an assassination and while you cannot afford to write Australia off my own feeling is despite the pitch being very good it might dry out and India’s left arm spinners will strangle before Kuldeep applies the coup de gras.

Must be stomach wrenching watching if you are a convict. I would say though Bangladesh are no mugs and a good toss or rain and Afghanistan may have something to worry about.

This weather thing has been unsatisfactory and it would have been a travesty if Aus did not get a chance to duke it out today although if I were a vetinary I would call this off to save the poor animal further pain and humiliation.

I am not a Xenophobe but it is fun to watch someone suffer and slip the knife in between the ribs. Aussie fans out there no don’t in despair. It is an awful feeling but one we here know only too well!

I would not have picked Dube either. Big six that!
Report Whisperingdeath June 24, 2024 4:53 PM BST
Aus have just got to believe this is a great batting wicket

Now I would have picked Suryakumar Yadav. What a player.
Report Hayden June 24, 2024 5:08 PM BST
Think basically Travis Head needs to do what he's capable of and match Rohit plus Maxi needs to come to the party.

Yes the Guyana match is 1.30am Thursday morning.

Even if losing here Australia have to bat as quick and long as they can here , tonights game can go either way so net run rate could easily decide which of 3 teams.

Luckily have to stay up tonight anyway as it's game 7  of the Stanley Cup final , great night of sport for me.
Report Whisperingdeath June 24, 2024 5:26 PM BST
I think they will struggle. There are signs of swing. I think the spinners will do for them but Arshdeep and Bumrah might be a handful too. Aus have the right mentality and will have to go hard. If they do win they deserve their place in the semi. Hope they put up a great fight as I am really enjoying it with no money down.

Am I not entertained!
Report Hayden June 24, 2024 5:27 PM BST
If they lose looks like Australia will need to get withing 30 runs of India to force Afghan's into needing the win or the no result later on.
Report Whisperingdeath June 24, 2024 6:43 PM BST
Yes,

Great reply do far but they are at the stick or twist point now. If they can keep their heads and chase 10-11 runs an over they will be doing well as this pitch slows up.

They obviously have to go for the win but do not want to lose by 30 or more runs. 41 is the one that puts Afghan ahead.

Rather back it than lay it.
Report Whisperingdeath June 24, 2024 7:40 PM BST
Thought the figure was 41 but is Afghan lost it would affect things. Afghan need a win…… or rain
Report Try My Best June 24, 2024 7:48 PM BST
Incredibly disappointed but we gave it a go and the one handed catch on the boundary was stunning. Didn't think we bowled intelligently and made it easy for Rohit serving up half volley after half volley. The dropped catch by Marsh was laughable. Hope Jofra can get that ball whizzing past the Indian batsmans ears in the semis and will be cheering them on against an Indian side I have little time for.
Report Whisperingdeath June 24, 2024 8:23 PM BST
They gave it a pretty good go. The boundary catch proved pivotal imho but the pitch was slowing up and the ball did swing a little.

Glad Aus are out to be fair as they are a very dangerous side.
Report Hayden June 24, 2024 8:49 PM BST
Crikey WD you must think Afghan's are a certainty tonight then to say Aussie are out , i've got the game as 50/50 between those two teams despite what the betting tells me so i've got Aussie outright down as a lot shorter than the exchange 13.0

Think Bangladesh are rated 1 spot higher than the Afghans in T20 ratings. You have to say the Afghans have been very good to watch and I fully expect them to progress.
Report Hayden June 25, 2024 3:09 AM BST
So, with one innings of the last Super Eight match of the T20 World Cup 2024 done, Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Australia all have a chance to make it to the semi-finals. Bangladesh bowled their hearts out on a tricky pitch, while Afghanistan were maybe too cautious for too long and could never catch up. They may feel they are 15-20 runs short of what would be a par score. They looked doomed to score even lower, but Rashid Khan hit a few lusty blows at the death. Afghanistan need to win (or hope that the rain forces a washout) while Bangladesh need to chase the target in 12.1 overs. They can however chase it in 12.5 if they level scores and hit a six to win it. If they level scores and hit a four to win it, finishing on 119, they can do it in 12.3 overs and still qualify. But they do have to face a very daunting bowling lineup on a pitch that's seen the ball zip around.
Report Hayden June 25, 2024 3:28 AM BST
10.20pm Thanks Abhimanyu. So the good news is that the rain has stopped. Lots of water on the covers though, which needs to be mopped up but provided the weather stays clear, the restart shouldn't be too far off.

10.15pm The rain still hasn't persisted. But here is some additional qualification information: if it's a 15-over game Bangladesh will have to get 94 in 7.2 overs to make it to the semis. Now, with that, I am going to hand it back over to Madushka. Hopefully he can bring with him some weather-related luck!
Report Hayden June 25, 2024 4:24 AM BST
Right, so at this point Bangladesh are ahead of the par DLS score after 3.3 overs, which is 29 for 3. But for it to be considered a game, there needs to be at least five overs bowled.

11.15pm The drizzle has suddenly gotten heavier, and the covers are coming on
Report Hayden June 25, 2024 5:30 AM BST
12.23pm The fielder at first slip, Gulbadin has gone down. Apparently cramps. And the covers are coming on, we are going off with rain. Bangladesh behind the par score by two runs. Even Rashid wasn't happy with Gulbadin falling over. Gulbadin was in position and just went down. And moments before, Trott was seen signalling to his players to 'slow it down'. Litton Das, as he walks off, was walking with Nabi and feigned a cramp himself with a sly laugh. Bangladesh games tend to find a way to be entertaining, whether there's cricket on or not!

The Aussies were never going to 'throw' the scot match but the fact they entertained the idea at least showed a lack of focus. India England has two big hitting sides. I hope it is exciting. I would say India has the better attack but pitch, conditions and toss can play a part.
