Labuschagne’s dreary ground and pound now coming into context as is batting for 55 overs only!
|
By:
Murphy's cameo is a right nuisance.
|
By:
you'd struggle to convince me on that Marnus knock but the issue of bowler rest is definitely a potential and meaningful issue if England wish to play this way...doesn't matter in the 1st inns but even if they get 300 in the second could become an issue...
|
By:
Our batting from the top 6 has stunk the place out. Utter garbage.
|
By:
I don't think this is necessarily because England are now fatigued, they're not grinding us down so they can rely upon wickets 8-10 getting them 100 runs.
|
By:
All outcomes are still on, can't say fairer than that at the end of day 3 people.
|
By:
Always always pitch if up. The short ball is a surprise weapon. I mean it’s is cloudy ffs!
|
By:
They've switched to trying to score runs, and it has come off.
That's not to say we won't pay in the fourth here - but any fatigue is significantly enhanced not solely because Marnus batted time but because we haven't a frontline spinner for two innings. (not to mention Stokes not being full Stokes) |
By:
Certainly an excellent contest between matched sides though lacking in quality at times.
|
By:
I'm glad now I got the draw on my side, it was not taken lightly and it was reluctantly done but sometimes you have to have a bit of caution in case things don't go as you expected.
|
By:
Forecast not too bad, I think the draw is skinny here with how England will go at it.
(But I've not got any money where my mouth is, on the draw front) |
By:
Aus batted 55 overs to make 140 odd. Marcus was just used to highlighted the point.
|
By:
they've still had better conditions and a better surface (less green tinge) and had to rely on Todd Murphy for parity or beyond..
|
By:
the aussie batsmen have all been very poor all series
|
By:
so if Eng bat all day tomorrow...450 all out...
|
By:
followed by Oz batting out the draw over 2 days....
|
By:
I'd take that as a spectacle, but let's have an England win please.
|
By:
That was a magnificent catch by Stokes, in years gone by that sort of fielding was never an option I don't think. The days of say Derek Randall for example never did that.
I hope everyone's books are in good shape and all to play for. Tomorrow's weather looks to be okay but could be delays Sunday and especially Monday. If pushed for a selection, I'm favouring an England win but it'll be interesting for sure tomorrow. |
By:
Yup, beautifully poised, as with almost every moment in this series.
Such a flipping shame this isn't an all-or-nothing Test but hey ho, it's still great. |
By:
Ok, one final point...I think Ian Ward is wrong, that isn't the middle stump moving first.
Firstly, you can see on the leftmost split-screen that it is the off stump moving first. Secondly, when on the side view, you can also clearly see that the middle stump moves second. From halfway down and towards the base, you can see it begin to obscure the 'first' stump that moved. (Obviously, the off-stump could not obscure the middle from that camera angle, only the other way round.) It seems correctly not out to me, unequivocally. |
By:
I agree, I thought it was not out as well.
|
By:
so who's batting 3 tomorrow
|
By:
I agree but not unequivocally. It was like splitting the atom with a mallet. Couldn’t be sure if it was the chicken or the egg and not knowing the rules does not help!
|
By:
Arkle was a great cover point who kind of revolutionised fielding by practising! He was lightening fast on his feet and he practised hitting the stumps.
Stokes is a phenom. I am sure he practises and is practised but some of the stuff he can do is ungodly. That is ashley a little unfair on him because he works so hard at his game but it is true! |
By:
looks a reasonable batting day...can England capitalize...?
|
By:
Eng 2nd inns runs 298-313 with the Index....
|
By:
The journalist on Sky chatting to Athers thinks Smith was out yesterday. I don't see how JB can lift the offside part of the off bail using something other than his hand that holds the ball, then the onside part of the same bail correctly, and for the wickets to have been broken as per the rules. Ian Ward not convinced that zinger bails would've cleared it up

get on with it England ffs...

the Broad/Marnus incident getting some attention...quite funny but not sure we want that becoming a regular thing...probably best the umps or referee have a quiet word ...
|
By:
Missed the start, go England's dynamos
|
By:
Still adjusting to the fact that I expected England to have 40 runs on the board when I switched on after half an hour.
That it's for none is wonderful. |
By:
you may already know but Zak cracked the first ball for 4 through the covers and 13 went off the first over...
|
By:
I'm sure we'll have a 20/4 at some point (but even as I type that I'm not actually sure I am sure)
...but I would take a world of convincing now that this attacking method makes us more likely to be 30/3 than we would be with the old ways... Somewhat counter-intuitive but it used to always happen, and now it just doesn't. Even though we go semi-ballistic. Can't decide how much of that is immediately 'throwing' the opposition bowlers but it's superb, why ever it works. |
By:
Did not know that, I just switched on to a sweet 45/0

And I think most assumed it would be different against Cummins, Hazlewood and Boland...but it was not.

Ha, ok. I knew what you were alluding to.
I like 'sniping', but I am equally unschooled in actual trading. Who pointed it out? And where did they, I missed that?! |

my brother texted me....he likes a pi$$ take and knows my posting name...
