Yes poor fielding today WD but would rather be in our position than yours. Obviously the Pomms fielding is rubbing off on us. We need to apply ourselves tomorrow and for the class players to stamp their authority on this game.

side on camera,s showing the game up for what it is again today GLORIFIED HIT AND RUN
shots in to covers by woakes/woods look great head on but side on, sliced hits skied in to air missing fielders more by good luck than good judgement |

^I believe this is the style Stokes is getting his players to play. Take every opportunity to score runs. Completely different to the old test style cricket of trying to remain at the crease as long as possible. Having watched England play yesterday followed by Australia the difference in playing is easily seen. I like it. It was more entertaining, created more chances all round while still achieving a good result. Playing this way will mean more possibility of getting out while still achieving a good score.

yes but you can get up anytime of night or day switch tv on and there,ll be a one day game, big bash, ipl etc,etc taking place somewhere in the world if thats your bag,
TEST CRICKET is meant to be different if stokes/mcull etc havnt got the time /patience for it they should step aside for those that have |
By:
as with most sports the equipment bats, balls is also taking over the game, size cricket grounds.boundaries curtailed by the square and mi****,top edges by tailenders sailing over the ropes, the fielders /field placings becoming irrelevant if a player middles it
|
By:
But if you want to retain viewers and keep test cricket on television it has to be entertaining. Watching Australia yesterday evening wasn't entertaining.
|
By:
It's completely overcast and a small chance of a light drizzle around lunchtime (ish) and the sun coming through late afternoon.
So a full days play ahead. I'm red on the draw but I'm not overly concerned about that as things stand. |
By:
As regards to this Ashes series, I've really enjoyed it hugely and have watched pretty much all of it. I can't remember the last time I've done that.
|
By:
purists presumably purring over these 3 maidens....

By:
make for an interesting debate if Marnus gets out shortly....3* off 39
|
By:
Those who see the series win being the only point of playing must be approving but those who want to be entertained will soon be switching off. With rain forecast on the next 2 days, it is very obvious that Australia are only interested in another draw.
|
By:
a few obvious negatives of being so pedestrian is that bowlers are under no pressure, catchers are kept in and few easy singles available...
|
By:
These two are typical test match cricket
Leave leave leave block block pick up a run. Always thought it that both bore u to death and kill the bowling off |
By:
Did you folks see that shot of Mike Brearly?
He looks in tremendous nick aged 81 and is still working as a psychoanalyst. The elders on here will no doubt remember that he captained England in "that" test at Headingly in 1981. I'm hoping I look as good in my dotage. ![]() |

21 runs in 13 overs....
|
By:
Finally we're seeing some real cricket this Summer, none of that pinball cr@p.
|
By:
snoozeball is a bit like bazball in that when it comes off it's the right thing and when it doesn't it clearly isn't...
|
By:
How dare you besmirch Test cricket with your snoozeball term.
Boycott never got out to short-pitched bowling. |

"and there's no run there...."
just like the good 'ole days |
By:
Seriousness aside for a moment, it is hilarious that Marnus has left about three times more deliveries in this innings that Duckett has in his Test career.
|
By:
than* not that.
|
By:
would love to see that run rate creep below 2.0 per over....might have to have a w*** if it does...
|
By:
ahhahahahahah
|
By:
that got me
|
By:
Yes, Brentford. Butcher calling it, "old fashioned cricket."
Oh dearie me. |
By:
Australia have bowled 32 maidens this series.
England have bowled 18 maidens in this 40 over innings. |
By:
(was actually a tad surprised we'd played out 32, as I totted them up)
|
By:
JB scored a century in 77 balls last Summer.
Marnus has scored 9. |
By:
(not sure why I keep using a capital for the word 'summer', apologies)
|

Of the commentators in this series Mark Taylor in particular, i.m.o. has been absolutely excellent, Ponting good as well.
Nasser has gone all nicey nicey woke on us. |
By:
4 byes just at the wrong time...

We're discussing the commentary, Test cricket is back in rude health. |
By:
(Agree, SB. Though Ponting and Karthik are my true fancies, with Sangakkara a close third)
|
By:
THAT's a grab.
|
By:
Very unlucky, Marnus. Blinding innings.
|
By:
yep I missed Tubby off the other week when talking up comms...he's very good and very fair..was the voice of reason on some of Oz's home coverage..
well batted Marnus...proper cricket that.... |
By:
I do as well, the season's get a capital letter even though that's technically incorrect.
I've done it for so long it's just the way it goes. Not a hanging offence though I wouldn't have thought. |
By:
I watched a greyhound race and missed the wicket!
|
By:
Oh yes, that was a very fine catch.
