Easily the biggest 'lumpy' I've ever seen in a market.

£3.7m laying Australia for last ten minutes...Surprised

oz done pretty well to get through that 75 mins only one down...Ishant and Bumrah may have had a bit more impact not that either opening bowlers bowled badly..big test of Yadav and Thakur now...

I think the Aussie lay is the bet atm because this pitch will shirley get a lot better and easier to bat on although the uneven bounce is not ideal. They said there was good grass covering but uneven in nature.

India batting line up is also very strong and this might well be a batters pitch for the first 3/4 days. If India reply well to the Aus total the odds may even out with an opportunity to cover some speculative bets being made now. Sun is out and things are looking good for batting.

I understand why India are playing 4 seamers but you just want Ashwin in this side particularly with so many left hookers in the Aussie side.

Aus definitely on top now. India do need to remove one of Smiff or Labuchagne to have a chance of winning the match imho but again cloud and possible rain later in the match may change shake things up.

I have also backed the draw at 7 just to give me something to work with later in the game.

Wow. Aussie benefit from a huge Umpire's Call decision. Right decision imho but if he gave it the cat would have been amongst the pigeons. Hinges of battle!

be 10m matched before lunch - would have thought that's a high ...can remember a full test in Eng only generating 25m approx around '06..

assume the lumpies are asian market offset but clearly generating plenty of betting interest.
Report Whisperingdeath June 7, 2023 12:18 PM BST
A great way to launder money!
Report Whisperingdeath June 7, 2023 12:21 PM BST
Transferred my red from Aus to India. Shirley going to get easier to bat on this afternoon and India will go out.
Report Whisperingdeath June 7, 2023 12:23 PM BST
Timing is everything!

Should have waited until lunch!
Report Aptdemon June 7, 2023 1:36 PM BST
I have never seen one price propped up like this. It's made any sniping interesting

Given where the lump has resided, wouldn't Asian market offset here imply that they are taking (/have taken) bundles on an Australian win? Are Indian punters non-partisan?!
Report Aptdemon June 7, 2023 1:39 PM BST
As for the cricket, nicely balanced - I haven't any preference.
Report brentford June 7, 2023 1:45 PM BST
judging by post toss markets in Indian home test matches and early passages of play I'd say fickle rather than partisan typically...
Report Aptdemon June 7, 2023 1:52 PM BST
I've got to say, I do much prefer the old lumpy who came in and out of the market (ala WI away series a couple of years ago)!

Would bump the price around and made for some fun opportunities...
Report Aptdemon June 7, 2023 1:53 PM BST
I mean, at least let people get carried away by a couple of boundaries, or what not Devil
Report Aptdemon June 7, 2023 1:54 PM BST
But fair play, if it's not pure offset...they have a humongous green right now
Report Aptdemon June 7, 2023 1:55 PM BST
(albeit one that is impossible to unload anywhere, in the UK at any rate)
Report brentford June 7, 2023 2:27 PM BST
maybe he's got the stop oil types in his back pocket... just in case...Mischief
Report Aptdemon June 7, 2023 2:50 PM BST
Just the 12milly matched at 1.97.
Report Whisperingdeath June 7, 2023 4:08 PM BST
Mistimed the Aus lay and buy back but no Aussie red and green on the draw. Not sure if this will be a draw. I am wondering if it will spin and also what affect the weather may have. India could well make a good first innings total before the weather changes though so I am looking for a good Hail Mary on them +10
Report Whisperingdeath June 7, 2023 5:26 PM BST
The uneven bounce really interests me. Cleared India red at 11 but even if Aussie get 450 minimum India could match that days 2 and 3 or even more. I think new ball tomorrow may decide the game. There is some reverse now as it is usually balmy at the Oval but not much time left this evening with the early start but no need to take the new ball now.

I would say all three results still possible but Aussie win most likely from this position
Report Whisperingdeath June 8, 2023 12:14 PM BST
Hard to call this still. I think the bad weather is moving away but I feel I India could get a big score here. Day 2 and 3 looks good for batting I think.
Report brentford June 8, 2023 3:07 PM BST
those massive lumps yesterday feel quite odd now - as nothing similar since..
all of which were laying Oz...maybe a big punter in asia with a strong view being offset but not an in-running interest ? or just a very big punter full stop who wasn't too price sensitive..
Report Aptdemon June 8, 2023 4:44 PM BST
'wasn't too price sensitive' CoolBlush
Report Aptdemon June 8, 2023 4:54 PM BST
I haven't the foggiest what was going on, and they helped make for a trying (concentration-wise) day.

They must surely be offsetting something but then who knows. I kinda hope they're a one-Test wonder.

Far too short a sample of time but I've struggled to get anywhere with my usual stuff so far.

There's been minimal volatility in the match situation, even ignoring old Lump, so it could well be nothing more than that but the market has felt a little 'odd' to me.

Can't put my finger on why, what or even if I'm not just imagining something different Crazy

Guess I'll just see if I'm still uneasy halfway through next week's Test...
Report brentford June 8, 2023 5:19 PM BST
markets involving India I still think have different dynamics to most full stop which i assume to be more asian book money though impossible to know (for me anyway) ...but yep, not seen an equivalent of that in any test match I've traded on here (21 years approx)
Report The Dragon June 8, 2023 6:59 PM BST
oz well on top
Report Whisperingdeath June 8, 2023 10:52 PM BST
Serves India right for not preparing properly. A little sad really, money over glory but zi think the players themselves love Test Cricket. A couple of God awful shots have ruined what was a brilliant TEST Match.
Report Aptdemon June 9, 2023 11:07 AM BST
Yup, big shame - this should have been a corker!

Scott Boland is a metronome, not dissimilar to Ollie Robinson (but a tad better).

Even though he's Australian, I find myself disappointed he's not nearer the beginning of his career, rather than being mid-thirties. He's seriously impressive.

An attack of Cummins, Hazelwood and Boland would be quite a task for any opposition Shocked
Report Aptdemon June 9, 2023 11:09 AM BST
It'll be interesting to see how England's aggression marries up against a partnership of any two of those three (especially Hazlewood and Boland, who never go for runs).

Will the bowlers be put off their game, or will England be skittled?
Report Aptdemon June 9, 2023 11:14 AM BST
Given the class of their bowlers, meaning the odd skittle is inevitable in English conditions...

Hopefully the new approach means that the days of old where we'd be all out for 67 - we'll now be all out 140 instead from the same number of overs, and be far less out of the match as a result.

Won't stop the negative commentary about our 'reckless' ways when it does happen (but they'll all be missing the point, somewhat).
Report Aptdemon June 9, 2023 11:16 AM BST
In other news: I see lumpy is propping up the Aussie price again Scared
Report Aptdemon June 9, 2023 12:36 PM BST
Boland is almost one full run, per over, more economical than any of the other Aussie bowlers *and* he is the most economical bowler in the match so far...

...but this is his third LEAST economical spell in Test cricket.

The guy's a machine.
Report brentford June 9, 2023 2:53 PM BST
yep been nothing but class when he's played...will certainly challenge Eng's aggressive approach...need to hit a lot of good balls for 4 to get after him..
Report Whisperingdeath June 10, 2023 8:07 AM BST
England will have to get him to change his line and length. Cannot just let him pop it on the spot. Start with singles and rotating the strike. I do think the batters will have the advantage this summer though
