I am glad I stayed out of this!
First inkling was England at 3’s but the more the game moved on I was more convinced Pakistan should have won with England batting Last. Nearly backed Pakistan at 2.24 but had lingering doubts about them and the wicket. I just do not know what to say about England…..30/3, 40/4 who are these imposters! Mike Brearley was heralded as a great Captain but he had some of the best ever playing for him. Stokes did not have a bunch of World Beaters or England GOATS This should go down as the most amazing Captaincy certainly in my lifetime. Bitham’s Ashes was really about some amazing individuals who pulled together a series of “ miracles”. These players were mercurial. What Stokes has done is almost inexplicable. The only caveat being the Pakistan fast bowlers who were missing like Shaheen Shah Afridi Hats off to Stokes and his TEAM |

if the summer was pretty spectacular this series has utterly ripped up the conventional rules about playing test cricket especially in pakistan where you generally get draws by the bucketload with flat tracks and short days

I think we need to see what happens with that. I think both India and Pakistan were shell shocked. Both have great attacks and I was disappointed with them.
I think they will get found out by hood bowlers and Australia in particular will be kicking their lips as would SA over a series but what Stokes has done in the immortal words of Paul Merson……. is give his young charges unbelievable belief. I am not stating I want this attitude defeated but as an aficionado of Test Cricket I want Test Cricket to bite it in the ar*se. That’s not to say I want to see this brand of cricket defeated but tempered although if they can keep doing it one must be delighted and applaud Credit where due. |

Sorry India and New Zealand

I wouldn't have believed you could have the success they have already achieved with their approach....regardless of any future failings they've already won numerous games that they had no right to and especially with the points system the approach is entirely justified from here on in almost regardless of failures until it reaches any catastrophic point...
having just seen SA's effort at playing old school test cricket (and even some of the Australians -noteable that Head the only run scorer of note has been playing his own bazball in the last 12-18 months and having a lot of success) I think it's also increasingly clear that many teams simply don't have the batsmen to succeed in challenging conditions these days so there is less to be lost by playing ultra aggressively.... and with the ball and in the field the increased belief of the bowlers and willingness to attack more has paid plenty of dividends to.. |

I think Whispering is wrong to hope the old style of test cricket bites back to give bazball or whatever you want to name it a kicking
I myself have always loved test cricket as it was but it was being devoured by limited overs cricket and T20 .. the way England are playing is giving it a lifeline and it is hoped other countries take up the challenge ... all sports change and whilst it might not be the cricket that aficionados might believe in it is giving test cricket a major boost .. test cricket definitely required help and this is a major step as too many other test nations were losing interest in the proper version of the game Obviously the Aussies will test it to its limit in the Ashes because they have the bowlers to fight back but the Summer should be enthralling |

Fair go geordie
It has been a breath of fresh air the but is Trst Cricket is now about India, England and Australia and money. These countries are too greedy to spread the love of the game or the money. I am not saying I haven’t enjoyed the show just I do not think it is sustainable and they will find a solution to derail it but long May it continue |

think the 280 in 50 overs 1st innings of the last test was the best justification. days gone by they'd have poked around for half that number of runs in 50 overs
the approach just puts immense pressure on the opposition. the rate england score if you don't bowl them out in 2 sessions then probably 8 times out of 10 you'll be losing the game. 300-350 is gonna win a lot more than it loses |

This is the crux of everything, on the batting side of things. A frankly unbelievable stat from this series, given who prevailed... Pakistan batted for more than 207 overs longer than England. Two hundred and seven overs more than us! And they lost 3-0. |

Even the chase in the fourth here by England - I can't remember but it was either the fourth or fifth highest chase ever by England anywhere in the sub-continent!
It was the breeziest breeze but head out with fear and survival on mind, on a turning deck, versus a mystery spinner who's just taken 11 wickets on debut, and we're skittled way short, after hours of prodding and poking. This has happened too many times to recall throughout my life. All hail this mindset, there aren't the words to praise it enough. Remarkable. |

It was not just the runs scored, but the number of players that contributed with both bat and ball. Don't forget they were all in sick beds 2 days before the first test, several had played in the 20/20 final (as had Pakistan to be fair) but the new names kept delivering. Brook was the star in the batting department, Leach together with the other slow bowlers did well as of course did Anderson. Stokes is content not to even bowl very often so he can concentrate on captaincy. Who would have thought we could achieve that much without him bowling? Jacks didn't really make any impact and Crawley is still disappointing as an opening batsman but there are plenty more young guns waiting for the chance.
