Gutted, Root jumped out of the way

First sign of light meter and market will wet itself...

I don’t fall into that it has to be entertaining line. It has to be Cricket for me. Heavy bats and a flat pitch combined with foresight shown by Stokes lead us here.
Try scoring at 7’s on a seaming or swinging wicket. This is Pakistan! |
By:
Time him out!
Can yoh time out for 2 minutes? |
By:
Should have taken the new ball by now not sure light will hold.
|
By:
Pretty ungainly tactic, there.
|
By:
Credit to this pair, whatever happens.
|
By:
Should urinate on the pitch like Bobby Peel.
|
By:
Well done Jackie boy, not my favourite left arm orthodox but a game guy. He deserved that!
|
By:
Wow.
|
By:
Cricket wins!
|
By:
Ged will be the proudest he's ever been.
Knight him, now. |
By:
Expanding on that from Atherton, I don't think a single other team, from any nation, in the history of the game could have won this particular match.
|
By:
Truly remarkable stuff from start to finish....no one has ever played a test match that aggressively surely..
the amount of credit points for that should alone should counter a fair few defeats in the future... not sure English cricket has ever truly raised the bar in international cricket let alone multiple formats in the way they are doing of late... |
By:
absolutely top class performance and the coach & the skipper should get every plaudit for the declaration they made ...
|
By:
Should not get carried away!
This could equally have gone badly if Pakistan themselves were a little more positive about the target. Pakistan fielded a depleted attack and newcomers to Test Cricket. Not sure if this is played again the result is the same. Extraordinary does not cover it. Credit where due. Big win for cricket bug this is a freak show of a game and result. What I like about cricket is that there are no recriminations and nearly everybody is happy. Even Pakistan fans think England deserved the win and even if not delighted by the result are happy for England to win like this. |
By:
Interesting BC and BS records
17 matches. 1 win, 5 draws the rest defeats under Root Before Stokes Enter BC as coach 8 games, 7 wins! This is down to Captaincy and management. Well done Rob Key. |
By:
think 14 wickets fell when oz were here earlier in the year
if england had scored at even 3.5 an over in their first innings wouldn't have finished the 2 1st innings until around lunch day 5 really had to do something extraordinary to get a result on this pitch |
By:
really had to do something extraordinary to get a result on this pitch
As stated earlier extraordinary does not cover it! |
By:
i think the ambitions of the new attacking philosophy will have its true test next summer in the ashes series ... the aussie bowlers are real quality and with the way england now play there will be occasions when they are skittled for not many ... but if the batting charge comes off enough times next summer it will make it very interesting
|
By:
For once in a decade or so...I'm actually looking forward to the ashes...cmon the incredible crew
|
By:
Pietersen was the best " Engleesh " cricketer I have seen since 1970
Stokes is quite possibly The Greatest Living " Engleeshman "! |
By:
Good to see the Pomms taking a leaf out of the aussie handbook on how to play aggressive test match cricket. We have only been doing it for the last 15-20 years.
|
By:
Beats being 81/7 now had we been in the recent 30/3 days.
|
By:
This test should end in a result. 11 wickets already and not at the end of day 1 yet.
|

Hoping Pakistan crumble here. Scoring not easy and England have runs in the board. J guess Rizwan is key for Pakistan.
|
By:
Agreed, I'd flip the England and Pakistan prices.
I think Ashraf can bat a little but it's a healthy sized tail again for Pakistan, might not be many runs to be had if Rizwan doesn't land. |
By:
I got England at : and just gone in again at 1.97
Runs in the board! Scoring difficult. |
By:
Cracker that from Leach, credit where it's due.
England tasty still at evens. |
By:
3
|
By:
Was going to say Leach bowls Rizwan with a jaffer. Who’da thought it!
|
By:
Nice commentary from the Sheila Alex on 5LSX / TMS after Rizwan had gif Leach straight for 4 she pointed out that since Stokes be some Captain z leach has not had protection straight deliberately to encourage that type of shot. Next ball Leach bowled the jaffer.
Sad to head so many misogynistic comments from cricket fans even here. I think this bird is ok and makes a decent contribution certainly better than many of the ex players in football commentary! |
By:
Still 112 behind!
Leach now 4/78! Well I’ll be! |
By:
Would you Adam and Eve it!
Even Roof gets a wicket! |
By:
Strong move at 3s, WD.
I was thinking it but no nerve to pull the trigger. |
By:
Root had 2!
|
By:
Yeah just seemed the market had this wrong. They do from time to time and normally I jump on it but I have been a little more focussed on the football as betting in cricket in Pakistan has inherent issues with pitches, gambling and match fixing!
Tbf I have been a little lucky with mg timing today and also small bets for me. Should really have jumped on the price it was 3.5 when I first considered it. |
By:
258/3 to 169/8
Timing is everything but luck is more important |
By:
158/3
|
By:
3 for Root
Unbelievable scenes Geoff! |
