Australia projected XI with ratings...
Warner 8 Harris 6 Labuschagne 8 Smith 9 Head 6 Green 6 Carey 6.5 Cummins 8.5 Starc 7 Lyon 7 Hazelwood 8 |
By:
Eng possible XI (less predictable)
Hameed 6 Burns 6.5 Malan 6 Root 9 Stokes 8 Bairstow 6.5 Butler 7 Wood 7 Leach 6.5 Broad 7.5 Anderson 8.5 |
By:
Wonder if Leach might miss out again with Woakes playing as the tail looks very fragile with what I've listed there and Brisbane doesn't offer a lot for average finger spinners typically...
Malan the other slightly dubious one I would have thought.. |

quite a delivery to get a set batsman on 150*

Robinson instead of Broad
Maybe Woakes instead of Wood but not at the Gabba |
By:
Wood can also alternate with Anderson at times
|
By:
Robinson & Jimmy play then where appropriate - two from Leach, Wood, Woakes & Broad.
|
By:
Think they might go Wood & Broad for Brisbane - I'd rather a spinner but...
|
By:
How bad can either side bat?
First game is always tough for tourists. India won at the Gabba but it was the last match I think. I really fancy to lay Aus particularly with bad weather around. I think Broad and Anderson play. Possible Woakes and Robinson. Maybe no need for Leach in a shortened game. One lucky toss and cloud cover and Aussie can be blown away.......unfortunately so can our batters but I do like the idea of a Russian Roulette play on the toss |
By:
Yep, some talk of the pitch being less typical Gabba with all the rain in the build up as well, maybe less pace and bounce, could even swing a bit though Gabba drainage is usually exceptional so won't retain moisture for long...
still debate over the scheduling as of yesterday...a possible second day nighter in place of perth wouldn't be the worst for England's chances if that were to happen.. |
By:
in fact just looking at cricinfo Perth now officially gawn with Hobart the fav to replace and Melbourne to get a second game the alternative...
|
By:
I think its gawn to Hobart!
|
By:
We have the better swing bowlers
|
By:
Anderson not injured but left out of the XII selected for the Gabba with a view to managing workload...
Pope preferred to Bairstow, a slight surprise maybe but certainly not an unreasonable decision... |
By:
Eng XII : Hameed, Burns, Malan, Root, Stokes, Pope, Butler, Woakes, Robinson, Wood, Broad, Leach.
|
By:
Bangla on their way to bust a 1.03 draw
|
By:
Best that can be hoped for. Anderson to play all 5 is a big ask. They will have more penetration on flat wickets. We have good height and bounce for a change. Sorry B’stard is not playing instead of Butler. Pope may yet prove a crucial decision. I’d like to know if we have plans if not to hit Lyon out of the attack then milk him for 3 singles an over.

dont think jimmys record in oz is all that good tbf
|
By:
No but he is bowling well in the twilight of his career. Broad has a worse record which worries me but both seem to have realised they need to put it on the spot and not give anything away. I think their batting is weak.

Hide behind the sofa stuff when we bat
![]() Anderson being injured isnt that a big a deal to be honest Theres no one one that fills me with great confidence from our lot though, hopefully Stokes can add some fire |
By:
Cant beat an Ashes series down under so lets enjoy though
![]() You never know they may surprise us.... ![]() ![]() |
By:
don't give england much hope but likely 2 day nighters, no perth test and possible greenish conditions in brisbane gives england a puncher's chance
also australia have hardly played in the last 2 years whereas england have played a hell of lot of test cricket but mostly not very well. not sure which of those 2 scenarios is worse ! |
By:
Our pathetic feeble batting of the last few years does not give much hope
|
By:
Broad left out as well a strong possibility according to tms
|
By:
We ain’t expecting much from our lot which might work to our favour as theres no pressure
We couldnt even beat anyone at home past 18 months which says it all |
By:
Broad is probably done but a bowling attack of Robinson, Woakes, Wood, Leach and Stokes
![]() ![]() I dont envisage skittles with that lot |
By:
Leach can't get a game all summer but at the Gabba we play him ahead of quality seamers with cloud and rain around...not sure about that...
|
By:
it's the right decision. he should (or any spinner) should have been playing all along. stokes won't be bowling more than 15 per day
to me not playing a spinner shows that silverwood and root don't know what they're doing. it's hardly worked leaving him out all summer has it ? |
By:
just feels a bit middled thinking Mafe' - I agree by and large about playing a spinner in general though if ever you could make a case for all seam this would be one of the more likely scenarios ...a big ask of Stokes as a 4th seamer after so little prep and an inexperienced make up of your seam attack....
|
By:
Id have bowled first, roots captaincy has been bad since day 1
|
By:
you can make the case for woakes instead of broad being a worse decision. a few extra runs at number 8 should not be a deciding factor
|
By:
nice time to be bowling in terms of overheads
|
By:
lol
|
By:
![]() Yeah lets just accept the inevitable |

Could be an early night lads…..

Root's bravado of not being padded up at the anthem looking a touch hollow....
