…and stop everything after the coin toss? The 2 best teams are clearly Pakistan and England (prob in that order) and it isn’t hard to imagine completely different results with different coin tosses. I suspect historically the toss winners have a slight advantage in all form but in international t20s abroad it seems to be a marked advantage (for whatever reasons). You could do away with the semis and have the 2 group winners play in a best of 3 (toss for first match, loser of toss chooses in second and toss for final game if needed) or something similar.
Dew does have some affect but it seems to be as much the team batting first just doesn't know (or hasn't until this point) what a very good score is so aim for about 160 and all the team batting second has to do is hang in there until the 15th over and bash it if needed. I'm not even sure i'll bother watching but will see who wins the toss who will obv bat 2nd. i'll then stick a couple of backs at ever silly prices and hopefully they get matched as the team batting first posts a score about 170. It's just a shame that neither of these teams are playing the best atm. Even without the toss advantage I think there is a case for the group winners in a 3 final scenario in this comp in the future

England were not the second best team. They had every chance and came up short, losing their last two games. They relied too heavily on Buttler getting the big score. They couldn't find anyone else to do something similar. On the day the two winners found players to turn the game, England didn't.

there you have it -but over the course of the comp are seriously arguing that the favs - aus - are better than england after the shellacking they got? anyway it really doesn't matter who the best 2 teams are my point stands for any t20 comp like this, 4 weeks to find the best teams then it's basically over at the coin toss and watch 2 sub par teams battle it out.

Agreed. The Aussies have won the toss 6 times out of 7 and chosen to bat 2nd every time. The one time they lost the toss, they were absolutely slaughtered by England.

I love test cricket but how any real cricket lover can denigrate T20 is beyond me
ebbs and flows, just look at the 2 semis here and this match from a dilatory start by NZ to pedal to the metal

only 5 off the 18th,9 off that last halted the run flow, may it prove the difference?
even tho' the pitch is drier unless Oz are like 3 down for 40 odd
you'd still have them as slight faves

despite the detractors i've really enjoyed this tournie
pitches that have given bowlers a chance and different total scores
the records DO support batting 2nd has delivered an egregiously high % of wins
but ignore the fact that a fair few matches were very close
despite the final outcome

yes, it's been pretty good for betting. I'm a casual when it comes to cricket. but there has been profit to be made if you read the swings and judge the patterns reasonably well.

There you go, at halfway comms and market thought the NZ score more than competitive but if they'd have got another 30 I'm not sure it would've been enough. The way Nz took eng apart in the final 5 I think they would have done the same and chased it down. I've quite enjoyed the tourney but the semi's and final have been disappointing, though i can see how people have made a bit of dosh. Unfortunately aus got nowhere near the price I was gong to back them at so that doesn't include me!
