Currently backed DC at 2.26 and laid SRH at 1.67 with more on lay side. Not ideal.
Report Charlie April 4, 2019 4:09 PM BST
Odds are now DC at 2.78 and SRH 1.56.
Report Whisperingdeath April 4, 2019 4:11 PM BST
I really need over 150 runs today.

Not sure we get there but we could with Pant but this wicket looks slow! and is spinning a little. Might spin more later if no jew factor!
Report Whisperingdeath April 4, 2019 4:13 PM BST
Got 140-150 covered now but could still see this going below 140 if there is a panic
Report Whisperingdeath April 4, 2019 4:13 PM BST

Jew now, game over!
Report Charlie April 4, 2019 5:14 PM BST
Plenty of twists and turns left I reckon and I'm not well placed to match them. Only thing I can hope for now is a train on SRH. If not then I have to turn up or lose some dosh. Not seriously bad but a tad uncomfortable.

Get Lamichane's overs out of the way and I'll feel more comfortable but by then I may be on DC.

Report peckerdunne April 4, 2019 7:36 PM BST
they went down a bit before going up a bit, then they went down alot before going down even more. After that they went up a little bit but kept going down again before going up a little bit and going all the down again.
Report VardonVoo. April 5, 2019 1:47 PM BST
Most helpful. Anybody notice the low and high before the final plunge?

Pecker - I took a look at that Baton bank thread in General Betting. It does seem to paint a bit of a grim picture for horse-racing punters.

With cricket I don't see the problem so much. The liquidity seems to be mostly Asian money, so a few mugs getting bad prices on the sportsbook cos they haven't thought to click around pales into insignificance on the major matches. The lesser matches and side markets have always been a bit thin anyway as they tend to be of more interest to the experts rather than the casual punter.

I'm not sure what the issue is with cross-matching and other liquidity-improving measures. If I try to back one outcome and my bet gets mirrored as lays of the other outcomes and as a result gets matched as if my original bet was taken up, surely I'm happy to get on?

Whatever these bots do they don't seem to prevent us ordinary folk from catching the occasional large fat-finger trade, which seem to happen a lot more in Tests for some reason.

All I can say for me is that when I've lost big it's not cos of bots or lack of liquidity or not enough mug punters - it's cos I've done something stupid, careless, clumsy, etc. If you had an edge in various markets that you feel has now been eroded by various factors, be it less liquidity, smarter punters, etc, then I can understand your feelings. I just don't think I ever had an edge in most markets to begin with anyway. My concerns are with the longevity of Test cricket as a sport - issues with the exchange are miniscule in gravity by comparison.

Test Draws don't seem to trade the same as they used to - I'll grant you that. But the influence of T20 means there are less of them, so it's to be expected.

On the other thread ( http://community.betfair.com/cricket/go/thread/view/94046/31518221 ) you said "use fixed odds".
I didn't get what you meant. Are you saying "use a bookie instead of the exchange"?
Report peckerdunne April 5, 2019 3:22 PM BST
VV

i am saying that is one of the 3 options available to you,and the one which is being promoted and directed to.

have already stated that cricket is the exception, for now, but my main point stands and is that the exchange model is no longer what it was, it is also in decay/decline, and the bookie is now the arber, value gone, liquidity going, and fewer newbies, all add to one bad outcome for exchange punters. As i said its by design, pc commission bots etc etc
Report peckerdunne April 5, 2019 3:27 PM BST
Remember the bot is first in the que on all sides, any value available is taken by bots, they are hedging with the books and cross matching other markets, joe bloggs is left with the bad value in the middle.

I will be ramping up my cricket in the future before getting out unless test cricket increases.

Its just getting too tough. And if people say different thats fine but they will have no one to bet with in the end.Just keep paying the commission.
Report peckerdunne April 5, 2019 3:28 PM BST
Oh and as my up down prices remark for the game you enquired.

It was you who posted the batsman in then out then in etc post recently....thats why i did that.Grin
Report VardonVoo. April 6, 2019 2:33 AM BST
Lol! I wondered why it sounded vaguely familiar.

I'm not sure what to think about bots, etc.
If a bot is aheaad of me that means the market is tighter - tighter markets mean better prices for "market" orders. It's like the difference between FTSE100 companies and AIM stocks. You can ask for stupid prices in the more illiquid markets but if you get matched it often means someone came into better info than you and now you're stuck in a position you can't easily get out of before everyone else knows what's going on and takes the market away from you.

Whenever I look at SportsBook (not just for cricket, sometimes tennis, politics, specials) the odds are terrible - so that means even with less liquidity the exchange is offering fairer prices.

Commission is going to kill you if you're only marginally profitable - that's true. But are you worse off than paying no commisson by consistently accepting bookie odds, including enough "mug bets" to not be obviously only taking the value offers and getting restricted?

If you're paying PC that's a whole different thing. Horrendous though it may semm, what it tells you is that you ARE profitable even after commission, and by such a margin that the exchange thinks you're draining too much money from their hard-won punters, at advertising cost to them. The equation you should then consider is whether you are better or worse off paying less commission and no PC on other exchanges with much less liquidity.

I'm not good enough to be under the PC regime, but last time I looked my commission calcuation (at 5% cos I don't bet frequently enough to earn a discount) I was credited for PC purposes with paying about 40% of profits in commission. In fact the true commission element would be higher than that cos they take half your actual commission amd half your "implied" commission (at 3%) on losses. I need to do more maths on it to be sure whether and how much of a fiddle it might be.

My point is though, if I could get down to below 20% then that would imply I'm more consistently profitable, but it also means I can't improve further than that without paying the "tax". Yet paying 20% of £50k seems intuitively better than paying 40% of £25k - I'd pay the same but be £25k better off - so if I ever one day get to the stage where I have to grumble please remind me of those numbers.
