Ian Bell's 100th test.

Alistair Cook "Something needs to be done because for three years as England captain I have been criticised".
BBC's Jonathan Agnew "Do you think it's personal?"
Cook "I think it is, yes."

Captain Cook has cracked. Brickbats (and bouquets) come with the territory. Shane Warne (best spin bowler I've ever seen) has as much right as anyone else to give an opinion, and calling Cook's tactics "boring" is hardly a violent attack. If Warne puts on Twitter "Leaving Sri Lanka to get 390 in 90 overs? PLEASE!" then I think most of us can see where he's coming from. I suspect now that Cook has just made things far worse - all defensive fields or a lack of imagination will be scrutinized even more thoroughly.

Weather seems OK for Headingley for the weekend, Monday's early forecast is mixed.

I expect a result and England obviously favorite.

As for Cook, I think he is out of his depth and not bright enough to understand he is.

SL has shortened and Eng lengthened quite a bit.

Any news?

The Lankans won't cope with this. Its too alien to them. (Witness their performance at Manchester in the ODI)

Took a speculative lay of England and a cheeky back of SL.

Too early in the match to be odds on but I guess tomorrow and Sunday will be the best days to bat.  If these two stay in then I we shall see a shift in prices.  If England can get through these two the others are vunerable but should they do well the others will likely bat well.  Chandimal is a fine batsman and we have already seen Matthews is too.

All to play for.  I just pray Cook doesn't start crying in front of camera's as that is a nasty Australian trait we do not want to copy in this fine countryCool

There is nothing between these 2 teams .  If Sri lanka were at home they would be 1/2 shots .

So anyone backing England at odds on in a 3 horse race is certainly not following logic .  They were 1.8 , now they are 2.3 approx , which is a proper reflection . Anyone who laid the 1.8 deserves a pat on the back , they may even collect .

I think mahela is the best batsman to watch and appreciate by far.  Maybe some are more exciting but watching him is like watching art except I don't like art and would prefer to watch cricket
