Early start isnt it Max.

What time do you start ?
Report Lix January 4, 2010 3:32 AM GMT
Agree with all that TT :)

would quite like Aus out the game here though.
Report Max and Paddy January 4, 2010 3:32 AM GMT
5am today - though I probably won't be in til about 5.15am once I've had a shower and de-iced my car!

For a few years, I did 3am starts - four days on, four days off. I can tell you there are fewer worse things than leaving the house at 2.40am on a day as cold as today and thinking, "I'm late for work"...

5am early enough to be leaving the house. At least it sounds like you have some totty to eye up

Whats going on with the ozzies........could have had two wickets that they didnt appeal for!
Report Max and Paddy January 4, 2010 3:35 AM GMT
The totty also makes up for it, SY ;)

Once you get used to it, it's not as bad as you think. Going to bed at 6pm in December isn't too bad, but doing so in June when it's 28C outside, you can hear kids playing on the street, your hay fever's playing up and the sun is streaming through the bedroom window isn't my idea of fun...
Report STEPTOES YARD January 4, 2010 3:37 AM GMT
New ball in 12 overs could be crucial to whole test
Report TopTier January 4, 2010 3:39 AM GMT
How often does one get 28 degees in the UK? I think I might check that. :-)
Report Max and Paddy January 4, 2010 3:41 AM GMT
Not that often, TT, but often enough to annoy me as I'm sweating cobs when I should be asleep!

Who's getting involved with the Bangladesh v Sri Lanka ODI in a few hours, and who'll be sticking with the Cape Town Test?
Report STEPTOES YARD January 4, 2010 3:42 AM GMT
Might have the odd luck at the odi but mainly the England Test
Report STEPTOES YARD January 4, 2010 3:42 AM GMT

Report Lix January 4, 2010 3:43 AM GMT
test match for me although Bang vs SL sounds like it could be fun.
Report Lix January 4, 2010 3:44 AM GMT
love watching Moyo bat. one of the classiest batsmen out there.
Report TopTier January 4, 2010 3:46 AM GMT
I would recommend a fan M&P. A decent one costs nothing and with humidity not an issue in the UK it helps greatly.
Report Max and Paddy January 4, 2010 3:49 AM GMT
There is a fan that's fixed to the light in here, TT. But even that, on full blast, doesn't do enough when it's the middle of summer. It doesn't help that I can't even open the windows to let some air in cos of my hay fever.

Right gents, I'm off to work. Speak in half-an-hour. Here's to Pakistan keeping their foot on the Aussies' throat while I'm gone :)

Report STEPTOES YARD January 4, 2010 3:52 AM GMT
Yep cant see that Pakistan price drifting even with wickets

Even if they lose last 7 for 100 say thats still a 180 lead
Report TopTier January 4, 2010 3:55 AM GMT
Sitting in a closed box due to not being able to breath the fresh warm summer air might have something to do it than the rare 28 degrees.

it's just sensible cricket with the new ball on the horizon, quick 50 before it comes and aus are out of it like Warne says
Report STEPTOES YARD January 4, 2010 4:02 AM GMT
Agree. Think they should play positive and push game on
Report STEPTOES YARD January 4, 2010 4:03 AM GMT

^^^ that one's actually gone from 'showers' 60% chance to 'rain' 70% :)

could be all over by then though and with Aus needing to bat 5 sessions to save this draw still very unlikely. Just think we'll only get 40-50 overs on day 5 if it gets that far.

Report West Coast Eagles January 4, 2010 5:13 AM GMT
this may be a stupid question, but if Pakistan get a 200+ run lead? can they enforce the follow on by batting again?
Report STEPTOES YARD January 4, 2010 5:14 AM GMT
No mate
Report STEPTOES YARD January 4, 2010 5:15 AM GMT
It aint a bad idea mind
Report West Coast Eagles January 4, 2010 5:15 AM GMT
why is that so? I know if the team batting 1st gets a 200 run + lead, they can enforce, but the team batting 2nd cant?

making Aussies bowl 2 times in a row, would just about deflate them

Report Complete God January 4, 2010 5:24 AM GMT
Ponting has backed Pakistan in this match.

1) Having a bat in the most bowler-friendly conditions imaginable

2) Getting out hooking first ball with his team in trouble

3) Convincing his teammates that a clear edge wasn't out thereby stifling their appeal

4) Leaving the field for one over and instructing his vice-captain to waste a review
Report STEPTOES YARD January 4, 2010 5:24 AM GMT
Someone offering 1.64 there on pakistan :0
Report Max and Paddy January 4, 2010 5:24 AM GMT
I saw that, SY! That was a mental price. Fat fingers?
Report Lix January 4, 2010 5:25 AM GMT
Pak will trade above evens again I reckon. The layer was a tad hasty though. :0
Report STEPTOES YARD January 4, 2010 5:25 AM GMT
These wickets should be effecting oz/draw prices more than pakistans imo

174 lead with 3 wickets left a great position still
Report STEPTOES YARD January 4, 2010 5:26 AM GMT

Report Complete God January 4, 2010 5:37 AM GMT
excellent batting performance from Pakistan on a pitch like this, all credit to the openers for allowing the others to make runs
Report STEPTOES YARD January 4, 2010 5:41 AM GMT
Pakistan look good for at least a 225 lead here

With 3 days left Aussies going to have to bat out of their skins to set a competitive target
Report Max and Paddy January 4, 2010 5:45 AM GMT

Report Max and Paddy January 4, 2010 5:51 AM GMT
That's another bonus, Lix ;)

Australia's batsmen could have a difficult few overs tonight. But they'll probably be OK.
Report Lix January 4, 2010 5:58 AM GMT
I've taken a big punt on the draw here. Need Aus to make 460+ and day 5 rain but think its got a chance. happy to have big red on Aus as any Aussie runs gonna have more of an effect on the draw price imo.
Report Max and Paddy January 4, 2010 5:59 AM GMT
331 for nine. Maybe Australia will have a bat tonight...
Report Max and Paddy January 4, 2010 6:01 AM GMT

Report STEPTOES YARD January 4, 2010 6:02 AM GMT
Market banking on aussies getting that 450+ and rain as well looking at the odds

A 200+ lead with 3 days left a great position

Report Max and Paddy January 4, 2010 6:04 AM GMT
Play was due to start at 2330gmt, Lix, so the extra half-an-hour has just finished. Strangely, there is no criticism of the Aussies' awful over rate from the commentators...
Report STEPTOES YARD January 4, 2010 6:04 AM GMT
STUMPS 331-9

204 LEAD

Awesome position for Pakistan

Aussies going to need 400 bare minimum
Report Lix January 4, 2010 6:08 AM GMT
7 wkts in that session :0

Market was right to factor that in!
Report JustWinBaby January 4, 2010 6:50 AM GMT
Day 3 will be the best batting day in terms of conditions. Time to back Australia now. May not win but going to be a great position to layoff at some point later tomorrow or in Day 4.
Report oneday69 January 4, 2010 7:11 AM GMT
Hard to believe oz are this short a price when quite possibly facing an innings defeat they look a fantastic lay bet to me
Report RememberJeremyBates January 4, 2010 7:13 AM GMT
Hmmm... I'd be very wary of laying Pakistan at 1.6. No value. More than 200 runs ahead, three days left and they have their tails up. Australia were stunned after Day One and haven't recovered...
Report JustWinBaby January 4, 2010 7:15 AM GMT
They will only trade lower if they are able to be about 4 down with a 100 run lead at the end of day 3.
Report blackmarket January 4, 2010 7:19 AM GMT
now fellas. When did Australia last lose 5 of 6 sessions at home? Or let's say 4/5 with yesterday's reduced session.

They must bounce back at some point (my logic says) and batting should be the easiest right now.

Laying Pakistan for now.
Report RememberJeremyBates January 4, 2010 7:21 AM GMT
Let's face it! If the positions were reversed or if, say, England, had a 200-run lead over the Aussies after Day 2, the price would be 1.3-1.4, not 1.6...
Report JustWinBaby January 4, 2010 7:23 AM GMT
That's because Pakistan could get bowled out for 120 chasing 200 to win on the final day. You saw how their lower order played in the last session today, some pretty stupid and irresponsible shots. They are liable to implode at any time
Report blackmarket January 4, 2010 7:23 AM GMT
that's because we are talking about Pakistan....
Report blackmarket January 4, 2010 7:31 AM GMT
they sure did play some shockers, but the Aussies did too. Facinating to see what happens with Hughes, Waston, Haddin etc. Can they pull their heads in and accumulate? If the pitch is playing the way I think it is it may not matter too much - at least tomorrow.
Report RememberJeremyBates January 4, 2010 7:36 AM GMT
Sounds like there is a lot of desperate talk here...

Young Pakistan side with something to prove. They know that they are on the verge of achieving a Test win in Australia for the first time in four tours. They're going to be motivated...
Report blackmarket January 4, 2010 7:38 AM GMT
that's why we have betfair. you back Pakistan at 1.60 if it's value to you. Good luck. I just think Pakistan are a medium lay for me, I just hope Aus bat well tomorrow AM.
Report RememberJeremyBates January 4, 2010 7:41 AM GMT
True. That is why we have Betfair.

I think Aus batting well enough to win the test tomorrow is a bit of a long shot, but then I backed Arsenal yesterday when they were one-nil down, telling myself they would easily get a couple of goals during the second half. A real white knuckle ride until the last quarter of the match, but sometimes these things happen...
Report blackmarket January 4, 2010 7:47 AM GMT
they sure do. I can't remember Aus being in a position like this since Bangladesh a few years ago. they trailed by around 150 and ended up getting 450 and holding on. yes, different team etc...and it was away, but there might be a more recent example.

Most of you think Aussies are arrogant..and I think you'd be right with our cricket teams, but their confidence can never be questioned..and they'll back themselves to get outta trouble.
Report Lix January 4, 2010 7:50 AM GMT
If you see Aus making any less than 370, you wanna be backing Pak.
Report RememberJeremyBates January 4, 2010 7:50 AM GMT
I'm a neutral, so at least I don't have the burden of feeling I have to back my team...
Report blackmarket January 4, 2010 8:09 AM GMT
no, no pressure! most aussies don't like the 'team' so there will be plenty of layers believe me. I layed early with the rain, and have now layed Pakistan. I think I'm fairly neutral...i think!
Report blackmarket January 4, 2010 8:11 AM GMT
*layed aus that is
Report della January 4, 2010 9:39 AM GMT
What price will Pakistan be if Australia give them a total of 150 to chase? Assume the draw is out of the equation.
Report Lix January 4, 2010 9:41 AM GMT
Pak around 1.3-1.4 to chase 150 imo.
Report oitoitoi January 4, 2010 10:02 AM GMT

Report DarkDagger January 4, 2010 3:26 PM GMT
Draw trading lower than in Cape Town though, strange given the weather seems okay and 19 wickets have fallen on the first 2 days. Unless people think Australia make 550 over Days 3 & 4 and give Pakistan 350 to chase on Day 5.
