Hoping for a cracker of a test :-)
From cricbuzz:
The SCG pitch is generally known to favour the spinners and would be the ideal wicket for the likes of Kaneria, Ajmal and Hauritz to showcase their prowess. Recent rain in Sydney would also help the quicker bowlers extract good pace and bounce from the wicket.

without getting into SV's non argument.

I'm in the other camp. i can see why the other lot think they're doing the right thing, but I know better. etc.

Raining in Sydney btw

it kills the game, umpires decision used to be fun, now a wicke is a 3 minute drawn out affair

imagine a goal in football, where noone can celebrate until the players have gone over to their manager, discussed to merits of a challenge, decided to go for it, and then the ref goes and takes another look . . . that would suck but they would get it right

now imagine exactly the same in cricket, but more often than not there is debate whether the actual correct decision has been reached :|

it substantially reduces the entertainment value of an already dwindling sport
Report Lori January 3, 2010 4:45 AM GMT
That might make soccer watchable.

Different opinions - just seen too many shockers that have changed the result of matches for my liking.

Early days - it will get quicker I reckon.

warne to ntini in the dark, hit him outside the line, 3 feet too high and wouldn't have hit another set, that one springs to mind for me
Report bigpoppapump January 3, 2010 4:55 AM GMT
if it was ntini, wouldn't the great man have just got him next ball though?

fail to see how ntini's wkt is ever the deciding one unless it's literally the last ball of the match.
Report Complete God January 3, 2010 4:56 AM GMT
it was literally the last ball of the match, and if they had survived the over the light would have had to have been offered, it was that dark

Report Super Vixen January 3, 2010 5:01 AM GMT
Sorry - was making a brew.

Off the top of my head, I'm sure the Aussies would have liked to review Kaprowisz(?) in the 2005 Ashes, my batting hero (Gower) got an absolute shocker in Aus (85 maybe?) which was crucial and Atherton going on to save the game versus SA when Donald had him very early doors.

Just off the top of my head - I'm sure there are others more vital.
Report bigpoppapump January 3, 2010 5:02 AM GMT

Report Super Vixen January 3, 2010 5:19 AM GMT
Batting looks a bit easier all of a sudden...
Report Lix January 3, 2010 5:20 AM GMT
huh? today is very likely to be the best bowling conditions of the whole test. we also lost 2-3 hrs with the rain and light (later) so even if they batted well they were unlikely to be in that strong a position at the end of the day. Say 200/4 at close is the best possible scenario imo.
Report bigpoppapump January 3, 2010 5:25 AM GMT
yes i agree today is extremely bowler friendly, but I think they're probably thinking about days 4 and 5 as being ones to avoid given pak's perceived strength. he makes that decision thinking we battle through a tough session and then we can go on. he doesnt expect them to bat like a set of cnuts.

hughes
ponting
hussey
clarke
haddin
all got ODI dismissals.
north gave an airy fairy one after he'd had a life for the lbw.
there's only watson who didnt just surrender.

probably a 50/50 decision imo. not some shocker to have batted though.
Report Green Beard January 3, 2010 5:25 AM GMT
pitch does look slightly more subdued . . . good news for pak, but you dont want aus getting 150 or so

Report Lix January 3, 2010 5:30 AM GMT
agree that the pitch hasnt got all these wkts but

greenish pitch
recent rain
cloud cover

Report Green Beard January 3, 2010 6:27 AM GMT
was a mixture of decent tight bowling, and some very average shots from aussies there . . . clarkes was nothing short of pathetic, husseys wasnt there for a pull, haddin played across the line, ponting tried not to get hurt, watson got a "beaaaauuutyy" and hughes driving outside off

watson the only one where you think fair enough to the bowler

sadly cant help with cheerleaders, far more informative about cricket to play my spotify playlist with the tv on mute :)

pak could fold though worryingly . . . need 270 or so for me, it will be easier for aus second time round

Ricky Ponting needs to be sacked after this debarkle. Why would you bat when the pitch looks like something you'd play backyard cricket on. Is it that, or does it have a can of green paint on it.

Aus will lose from here. Take the silly pakistan odds of 1.6.

my god wish id bothered to stay up and back pak post toss as planned.... gutted.

surely even pakistan cant screw this up?
Report Smalltime Punter January 3, 2010 11:52 AM GMT
Pakistan can screw anything up. Batting is fragile, so not at all difficult to imagine 200 all out followed by Aus 350 and Pak failing to chase 275. Having said that, sub 3/1 about it is pretty skinny.

I've laid off my stake (backed Pak @ 6.4 pre-toss) so am zero on Aus and the draw, and green on Pak. Might look to back Aus for small stakes if Pak get a decent start.
Report Rampant Rabbit January 3, 2010 9:03 PM GMT
I wish City Index were still going.. years ago they let you put up an option price and then go to bed.. I waited till 145 am till my eyes closed with intention to sell at my own estimated price of 335-350 ( actually it was 373 to sell)

I woke up this morning at 7 am and lept with rage.

And of course have had a carp day
