England are in a decent position to bat all day and post a good lead.

Saffer attck needs to click quickly or it will be a long day for them.

these two shouldn't slow things down, as Eng can win this one. they are in a fairly dominant position with the likes of Prior, Swann, Stu Broad still to come, who are decent with the bat.

Once again england in a dominant position start to grind to a halt! I know big fred has retired but he was perfect at the 6 position coming in in this situation. I know you cant replace him and shouldnt start to look for the new botham like we did all through the 90's, but i would have loved to have gone for a luke wright style player, not necessarily techniquely, but attitude is more aggressive!

Report Jack Pot December 28, 2009 1:24 PM GMT

Report TopTier December 28, 2009 1:25 PM GMT
Bell playing for the team as always. :-)
Report Jack Pot December 28, 2009 1:29 PM GMT
I really dont think England can get enough runs to mean they dont have to bat again, add to that the fact they'll need at least 4 sessions to know SA over, surely a better plan would be to attack now and get 100 - 150 lead quickly than get 200+ lead slowly...

Cook was out at second slip to a straight ball that didnt deviate playing defensively but not keeping his bat straight. Collingwood scoring rate 42 and Cook 45.

Would say they both played innings for the good of the team. One of them has ongoing technical problems that will be forgotten in the good feeling generated by three figures.
Report scliffor December 28, 2009 1:59 PM GMT
Would suggest that both Cook and Colly have technical isses - although Cook's are worse and more obvious

Personally would like to see Key and Carberry given a chance, I know it's a difficult statement to support given the current score and Cook, Bell and Colly's performance but long term I think that could be the way to go.

Also Prior is never a test match number 6 as long as he has a whole in his ar*e, he's a flat track bully who can come off when circumstances, conditions and the scorecard allow.

Report bigpoppapump December 28, 2009 2:21 PM GMT
certainly does. in one way that's a bit of a comment on the seamers imo. Eng are not actually winning many matches in the ones swann does well in, and someone's gunna get wickets because they always fall eventually. not being hyper critical but he's not been a match winner for Eng. Lord's was probably the closest. Oval eng got the result but Aus got loads on the last day when you'd have expected swann to have knocked 'em over. no wins in WI.

nass reading again ;)

and he turns it enough but not too much
Report bigpoppapump December 28, 2009 2:24 PM GMT
high class off break bowler, but if a non-unorthodox offie is your main card you're not going to win many matches. If swann were taking fewer first innings wkts i bet Eng would win more tests.

Report Jack Pot December 28, 2009 2:47 PM GMT
No I agree, far better to take as much time as possible out of a game we now cant lose.

I'm not talking 20/20, I'm not talking reverse slogs and heaving over cow corner, I'm talking about not leaving the sh#te Kallis, Harris and Ntini served up for the ajotiry of the final session. With tiring bowlers and a ball going softer we should have been looking at towards 4 an over...

Greattttttt day for enggggerland :)

They shaping up nicely for that inevitable ;) 100+ lead :)

I said yesterday that i was looking for them to trade sub 3.0 before greenng out my backs of england at up o 13.0 :0 ... they are now 3.2 to lay ... i have decided not to take any chances with the weather and have greened out at this 3.2 to leave me small green on draw/saffers .. and still a substancial free green on Engggggerland :)

Ithe weather holds i think england should win at a canter .. the pitch is showing signs of playing up.. a few balls are gripping ... and as is usually the case when balls are gripped.. tears will follow :^0 ... this time it will be saffers tears on last day.

Good luck all :)

The key to England winning this game is the conditions.

There was a northerly wind today which means perfect for batting.

Tomorrow a southerly is forecast which means a day for bowling. Hope the southerly doesn't bring rain and bad light with it.

SA will probably have to bat for 100 overs for there not to be a result. England certainly have a chance.
Report Captain Wurzel December 28, 2009 5:09 PM GMT
You are wrong jackpot, a couple of wickets in the last ten overs and England could have been in a tricky position. Why do you think Kallis etc were bowling wide of off stump ? Trying to induce a rash shot and get themselves back in the game. Well done Prior and Bell for making sure they will be there in the morning.
Report Jack Pot December 28, 2009 5:41 PM GMT
