slightly surprised England have as good a record as that, obviously had a very good side for an 18 month /2 year (would have to check dates) spell upto and including the ashes 2005 but aside been a very middling outfit.
Playing the Windies so much probably helped a little. |

Did well at the start of nassers reign as well brent
Remember back to back series wins in pakistan and sri lanka in 2000 |
By:
haven't lost too many series at home in that time, 1 to aussies 1 to india 1 to SA, from what i can remember

Who will top the chart at the end of 2020 and will any team have a W/L ratio anwhere near that of Australia's.
don't think we will see a level of dominance like that for sometime though would have been tough to predict the level of Australian dominance just before it started, two or more all time greats appearing overnight in any team will again be required though imo. |

Yep,
Nass/Fletch largely responsible for a turn around in English cricket not least in terms of attitude. |
By:
handy little graphic for England evaluation

By:
dougy - you need to be careful mate, actually starting a thread of interest which could promote discussion on cricket!
Ban on its way I reckon. |
By:
Agree on nasser brent.
Vaughan gets the glory for 2005 but hussain did as much if not more for England as captain after taking them on from the scrapheap in 99 |
By:
be misleading having a table in order of wins, as England played more than most - win/loss ratio should be the stat to decide th order (england 4th - more realistic!)
|
By:
Not really-should be rewarded for playing most Tests, thus upholding the primacy of the highest form of the game

be misleading having a table in order of wins, as England played more than most - win/loss ratio should be the stat to decide th order (england 4th - more realistic!) can't believe you beat bj to it in pointing that out to tell the truth :0 |
By:
not sure the table was intended to be (or being) evaluated on order persoanlly.
|
By:
That's the way it came out, but as you'll see in the summery i have listed the rankings Aus quite clearly ahead followed in a distant 2nd by SA. India, England and SL stuck in mid table mediocrity with Pak, NZ and WI bing up the rear.
Couple of things can be taken from it though England won games more reugularly than India in the decade with 1 victory every 2.37 Tests to India's 1 every 2.57 tests. But India were far harder to beat Losing 1 Test every 3.81 games to englands 1 in every 3.45. This would make sense considering how much harder it is to force a result on Indian pitches. |
By:
indeed Dougy, was fairly clear you weren't evaluating on table order imo.
re England how often we play WI's and NZ unfortunately must be a factor, open to be proved wrong but I'd guess we've played more games against those two than any other country (not called NZ or WI). |

By:
joseph's gonna lurve those stats :)
|
By:
was suggesting w've played them more than other countries have played them, not that we'd palyed them more than we've played anyone else (for clarity).
|
By:
be interesting to see how many games chelsea have won in premiership since 2000 compared to the rest :0 ..i expect they would come mid table ;)
HTH regarding who is likely to dominate the cricketing world in next decade ;) |
By:
24 matches vs this Windies team
|
By:
You pointing to demigods current high standing in the current rankings by any chance bigjoe ?
|
By:
against the big sides I note we have an overall losing reord for the period (middling as described earlier imo).
|
By:
I Think a better indication of who will be top dogs in next decade is to look at he MOST RECENT meeting between the test playing sides ..on that front..in their MOST RECENT meetings , injuns have won 8 series and drawn 1 from last 9 meetings against the other teams .... nuff said really ;)
|
By:
bj .. doughy is talking about the last decade ( the clue is in the title by the way ;) ) .. why have you felt the need to defend india ?:| .. no-one on here has attacked their record .. i thought you would like the fact that engs win/lose ratio against india is more or less the same as their record against oz who quite clearly were the best team of last decade .. as to who is going to be the best team of the next decade .. we're going to have to wait until 2020 before we decide that .. HTH
|
By:
Who will top the chart at the end of 2020
Calm down smeagors :0 .. i was only addressing this question .. and my analogy with chelsea and indias most recent form was aimed at answering this question rather then defending injuns :) |
By:
we'll see .. 10 yrs is a long time in ckt .. in fact the way its looking the indians won't be playing enuff tests to get anywhere near oz's 2000-2010 w/l ration :^0
|
By:
more bullshít from the maestro of the incorrect stat ;
indias record last nine series .. W6 L2 D1 .. :0 |
By:
smeagors 21 Dec 16:35
bj .. doughy is talking about the last decade ( the clue is in the title by the way ;) ) marathon, not a sprint? ;\ |
By:
'end of the decade' was the kirkstall lane end imo
|
By:
no point made about who's best now just about teams performances over the last ten years. off on the juice now for a few days see everyone for the boxing day test(s)
Merry Crimbo!!! |
By:
25 games against the aussies though as well brent

smeagors 21 Dec 16:48
more bullshít from the maestro of the incorrect stat ; indias record last nine series .. W6 L2 D1 .. Smeagors .. please read my post again :0 .. i said that in the MOST RECENT meetings with each of the other 9 test playing nations injuns had won 8 drew one :0 Correct me if i am wrong but in the MOST RECENT meetings india have: BEATEN lANKA BEATEN AUSSIES BEATEN ENGLAND BEATEN PAKISTAN BEATEN KIWIS BEAT WINDIES BEATEN BANLADESH BEATEN ZIMMERS DREW WITH SAFFERS :D ... :0 . ;) |
By:
clue is in the 1st post .. test matches .. http://howstat.com/cricket/Statistics/Matches/MatchListCountry.asp?A=IND .. HTH .. ;)
|
By:
i can see what your point is now .. apology given .. u'r correct .. sad stat to use imo
|
By:
i can see where you're coming from now but its a pathetic use of stats imo .. i just get annoyed that you always turn threads into a "india are great thread" ffs .. doughy has already posted that he meant nothing more from his post then to show teams performance over the past decade .. i'm afraid its your good self thats makes so many on here hope for an indian defeat .. that and the fact that they are pretty much a bunch of overpaid primadonnas .. mind you its poss to say that about most sportsman/woman these days :( .. and once again my post re engs record against india the last decade was that you would enjoy it not that you needed to start repeating over again what you have already told us over and over and over
|
By:
CHILL OUT MAN ... merry xmas :)
|
By:
don't tell me what to do .. save that for your missus and kids ;) .. oh and dhoni of course ;) .. merry xmas to you too
|
By:
sorry bj .. i'd just downloaded RATM when i posted my last reply ;)
|
By:
be interesting to see how many games chelsea have won in premiership since 2000 compared to the rest :0 ..i expect they would come mid table ;)
without any research i would be willing to bet that chelsea are at worst 4th and probably 3rd |
By:
with a tiny bit of research...
since start of 2000/01 season man u 233 arsenal 210 chelsea 209 liverpool 199 what a great analogy for international cricket... |
