Thought I'd just put together a little table of the test Match results since the 1st of jan 2000.
As we can all see it's clearly been Australia's decade losing just 18 and drawing just 18 of the 114 Test matches that they have been part of. SA have been solid and SL, India and England all a muchness of a muchness. WI have fallen away dramatically and NZ have performed as you would probably expect. Who will top the chart at the end of 2020 and will any team have a W/L ratio anwhere near that of Australia's.

slightly surprised England have as good a record as that, obviously had a very good side for an 18 month /2 year (would have to check dates) spell upto and including the ashes 2005 but aside been a very middling outfit.
Playing the Windies so much probably helped a little. |

Remember back to back series wins in pakistan and sri lanka in 2000 |

haven't lost too many series at home in that time, 1 to aussies 1 to india 1 to SA, from what i can remember

don't think we will see a level of dominance like that for sometime though would have been tough to predict the level of Australian dominance just before it started, two or more all time greats appearing overnight in any team will again be required though imo. |

Vaughan gets the glory for 2005 but hussain did as much if not more for England as captain after taking them on from the scrapheap in 99 |

be misleading having a table in order of wins, as England played more than most - win/loss ratio should be the stat to decide th order (england 4th - more realistic!)

Not really-should be rewarded for playing most Tests, thus upholding the primacy of the highest form of the game

That's the way it came out, but as you'll see in the summery i have listed the rankings Aus quite clearly ahead followed in a distant 2nd by SA. India, England and SL stuck in mid table mediocrity with Pak, NZ and WI bing up the rear.
Couple of things can be taken from it though England won games more reugularly than India in the decade with 1 victory every 2.37 Tests to India's 1 every 2.57 tests. But India were far harder to beat Losing 1 Test every 3.81 games to englands 1 in every 3.45. This would make sense considering how much harder it is to force a result on Indian pitches. |

indeed Dougy, was fairly clear you weren't evaluating on table order imo.
re England how often we play WI's and NZ unfortunately must be a factor, open to be proved wrong but I'd guess we've played more games against those two than any other country (not called NZ or WI). |

I Think a better indication of who will be top dogs in next decade is to look at he MOST RECENT meeting between the test playing sides ..on that front..in their MOST RECENT meetings , injuns have won 8 series and drawn 1 from last 9 meetings against the other teams .... nuff said really ;)

bj .. doughy is talking about the last decade ( the clue is in the title by the way ;) ) .. why have you felt the need to defend india ?:| .. no-one on here has attacked their record .. i thought you would like the fact that engs win/lose ratio against india is more or less the same as their record against oz who quite clearly were the best team of last decade .. as to who is going to be the best team of the next decade .. we're going to have to wait until 2020 before we decide that ..
