Report Green Beard December 18, 2009 2:39 PM GMT
with such a small lead and how slowly they score, they will be looking to bat into day 5, mid way through first session

depending on whether it rains tomoro evening of course

Report TopTier December 18, 2009 2:40 PM GMT

Report mvuemba December 18, 2009 2:40 PM GMT
There is more chance to see Eng win this game than SA imo, considering SA will bat and bat.
Report Test Match Matt December 18, 2009 2:41 PM GMT
aint getting anywhere nr 6 overs in bumble - 4 tops imo
Report bushy December 18, 2009 2:41 PM GMT
The draw price implies significant weather - but if there's significant weather then England become the only team that can win (barring S.A. all out very cheaply and then knocking England over). Something's not quite right.
Report Black Whippet December 18, 2009 2:42 PM GMT
5 overs to be bowled .......... 0 wickets , hopefully 20+ runs please
Report worcester sauce December 18, 2009 2:42 PM GMT
which was going to be the point richie
only 2 results possible here
england win bowling saffas out for below 200
or draw england only having to bat for
2-21/2 sessions max
Report Green Beard December 18, 2009 2:43 PM GMT
draw price doesnt suggest that much weather

it implies saffers wont score quickly, and declare well into day 5, and need to bowl england out quickly
Report bigpoppapump December 18, 2009 2:44 PM GMT
nonsense bushy. on a deteriorating wkt SA are 63/0.
Report dougydougy. December 18, 2009 2:45 PM GMT
anyone ruling out a 2nd england collapse is mental, But for SA to win it also requires a SA collapse rather than a declaration which considering it's the 1st game of the series is likely to be overly attacking from Smith.

Report bigpoppapump December 18, 2009 2:47 PM GMT
nope.

there are 6 sessions left. SA can win "normally". ie getting something like 290 to 320 and bowling england out. even if 40 overs are lost there's still plenty of time.
Report TopTier December 18, 2009 2:47 PM GMT
64/1 :-)
Report bushy December 18, 2009 2:47 PM GMT
fine, SA should be favs if the weather's fine. But there's no way the draw's 1.5 if the wicket's deteriorating unless there's a lot of weather about. Of course, bf Draw prices have a life of their own and usually only get in line towards the end of the 3rd innings.

Anyway, they're 64/1 now :)

Report mvuemba December 18, 2009 2:57 PM GMT
Even if just 1 session is lost, Saffers wont have time to post the runs then bowld England out, unless the pitch becomes totally unplayable, and SA get skittled for less than 200.
But even then why would you back SA?

Report STEPTOES YARD December 18, 2009 3:12 PM GMT
I think the draw could come under serious threat from a SA collaspe tomorrow now.

Could easily see a situation where SA all out sometime after tea and England need 280 to win
Report ronsk December 18, 2009 3:39 PM GMT
That's been my thinking for a while SY...

I haven't played this match well at all, not for the first time when England are on tour I must admit, but if that scenario played itself out, I'd be a very happy bunny!

My current position :-

Saffers +£86.44
England +£1,766.21
Draw -£228.10

We should lose at least 1.5 to 2.0 sessions, that would make SA 77-1 with 4 to 4.5 sessions to go...just cannot win.
As soon as rain appears SA price will skyrocket.

.

But surely if SA are still batting when the rain arrives then England are even more less able to win
Report mvuemba December 18, 2009 5:01 PM GMT
No because SA wont declare with 225-250 runs ahead and 2 sessions to go.
They will keep batting.
The only result possible will be England, if they can bowl out SA cheaply then chase quickly.

Exactly! but the rain will be coming late (not early) so if SA are still batting they would NOT have been bowled out cheaply
