INteresting on the edges of the schedule

The Opening game between MCC and Durham shown as TBC - talk it may be moved from Lords to Dubai :0

Also, the season ending so early (Sep 18th) - room for the Champs League to be slipped in?

Dont think we will see many games on Sky until the World T20 is finished in Mid May

Then its a game a day till mid September by the look of things

In fact T20 junkies will have an orgasm

Apr 30th - May 16th World T20 (27 games + womens)
June 1st - Jul 18th T20 League (around a game a day)
July 26th - Jul 28th T20 Quarters (4 games)

Looks good.

Non-stop cricket nowadays
Report johnterry 26 November 19, 2009 10:45 AM GMT
A pleasing schedule, I saw in one article regarding the free-to-air debate of Ashes cricket that Sky showed cricket on 264 days in the last 365 :0
Report lbw November 19, 2009 10:50 AM GMT
yeah that translates to 140 T20 games in 140 days (IPL is a 60 game tourney)
Report Conkers November 22, 2009 12:31 PM GMT
If Major League Baseball can cram in 162 games in a season, why can't the ECB? ;)

Non-stop something anyway
Report Mushtaq November 22, 2009 1:22 PM GMT
Surely if they have the "traditional season opener" in Dubai, then a different game just becomes the season opener? Otherwise you might as well count all the games the counties play against each other on tour in the pre-season.

wait for the ipl schedule the following year. :0

Love the reasons given

"Ultimately, this match is being played in Abu Dhabi for two reasons.

MCC have trialed a pink ball in matches at Lord's "Firstly, we felt that the proposed fixture schedule for Lords (3-5 April) was far too early in the year to play meaningful cricket, with poor weather a very likely possibility.

"Secondly, weve been asking cricket authorities around the world to help us trial the pink ball under floodlights.

Why dont they just give the proper reason, they are paying them a shed load of cash?
Report TwoTonTed December 11, 2009 10:02 AM GMT
pmsl, cracking story :^0

MCC will select a competitive team to face the double county champions, with the best county, MCC University and United Arab Emirates cricketers in line for selection.

pink balls, my arse. Can just imagine John Stephenson and his cronies being entertained and dined royally :D

Changes to next years championship

* Teams will receive 16 points for a win and 3 for a draw (14 points for a win and 4 for a draw in recent years).
* Bonus points remain unchanged (a maximum of 5 batting points and 3 bowling points available during each side's first innings) but the threshold for achieving them has reduced to 110 overs (from 120 overs in 2009).
* The use of the heavy roller will be banned after the commencement of the match.
Report fundamentalist December 11, 2009 1:07 PM GMT
first and last rule changes seem decent, would have liked to have seen them revert to 4 batting and 4 bowling points personally though
Report brentford December 11, 2009 2:52 PM GMT
The last one (heavy roller) very innovative, whether it has much impact only time will tell but I like the thinking.
Have never liked bonus points and probably never will :|

The ECB have stated that the 4 day game in the UAE will play a part in encouraging test cricket.

This story just gets better!!!!
Report stephaniebot December 11, 2009 4:07 PM GMT
They will probably get more entertainment from the Associate nation 20/20 qualifying than they will get fom that 'non match'.

And with Afghanistan in it, they will even have a decent 'local' team to cheer on.

Whereas MCC and Durham is likely to be as big a non event as it ever is at Lords
Report michael knight December 11, 2009 5:10 PM GMT
The UAE barely even have any indigenous players - they are mostly Indian and Pakistani ex-pats. Not that there is anything wrong with that but it's hardly a country with a great cricketing future.

Thanks for posting that. Has anyone any ideas who is showing the IPL next year, I'm assuming Eurosport might do?
