No thread chaps? 11.00pm this evening for the off. All about the pitch is it, or are both sides incapable of lasting 5 days even on Napier's traditional road? Ground/Curator reports suggest a more bowler friendly (not difficult) surface with something called grass and possible early pitch moisture. Personally, take this info with the odd pinch of salf till it reveals itself.

Anyway, Pak fav for me but no bet yet :)

Weather set fair every day too with maybe Cloud cover but no rain on days 1-3.

Hoping that draw price gets hammered today

I can't see both of these batting line-ups making the big totals needed to force the draw. And they'll both the series win.

Groundsman got to be under pressure after all the draws. my own notes rate this as one of the flattest pitchs in the world. Question is there enough life in the pitch so that one side gets sub 300 in the 1st innings and set up the potential for a result. If Pakistans superior bowling attack get a crack on a pitch with some life early the club standard batters in the kiwi side could be rolled out.

The 1st day crucial as the pitch has got flatter and flatter as the match goes on.

England won a few years ago on the back of Ryan Siddebottoms swinging the ball, maybe pakistan have an attack who can swing the ball.

Tentitive lay of the draw with an option of a bail out.

A word of warning about the Akmal bros and their frame of mind for this test - hopefully it wont affect them but you never know.

Karachi: Pakistan's prolific Akmal brothers - Kamran and Umar - will stay in New Zealand with the national team instead of returning home to be with their mother, who suffered a heart attack in Lahore on Sunday.

According to a Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) spokesman, Kamran and Akmal were told by their close family members that their mother was out of danger and that they should continue with the national duty in New Zealand. Even their mother insisted that the brothers stay with the team.

Both Kamran and Umar had started packing for home after learning about their mother's illness. However, their mother's condition improved overnight and she even talked to them.

Exactly Ted, not much to lose with specialist batsmen failing so much anyway. (though I'd have gone McCullum 6, Vettori 7 )

sounds like should be a decent pitch,
hard to believe it will become quite a seamers paradise even with some grass on it but should make for a decent game and either of these can be 5 for not many regardless of surface...looking forward to it :)

if we are guaranteed 5 full days I'd lay the draw large at some point, but that's never the case on NZ :|

pakistan DNB at 8/11 sounds ok, tough to price the draw with both sides' fragile batting on what has been a featherbed in the past

Draw will trade sub 2. If WI can draw in Australia on a feather bed anyone can. There will be no declarations at any point here.

11.25am Well, it is one-all coming into the final Test in Napier. The good news is that the weather forecast is great for all five days of this Test, shouldn't be too any rain interruptions.

misinfo as usual imo
