Palpitations: check
Sinking feeling: check
Nervous hope: check
Massive bag of mary-j: check.

I think I've covered everything.

Barring my (expected) worst nightmare, I'm not sure why Oz are still so short. Feels like that Saffer test where Saffers were too short all the way through.

Been listening to the commentators for the past hour or so. Are these guys clueless, moronic or just so one-eyed they can't see the bigger picture?

You've got Healy saying they must dangle a carrot for Australia, Nicholas saying they will hit out in the final hour and most of the rest talking codswallop.

After being lampooned after the First Test, pray to God they don't give the Aussies a sniff with some sort of adventurous declaration. A dominating draw would be a great result and, who knows, they might still sneak a win on a day 5 pitch.

If they could bat out the rest of this test then it would be a win for them, to draw a test against us on our own soil would be an embarassment for us and they should drag the curator out after the match and execute him on the pitch and let his blood soak it given there hasn't been any water put on this freeway.

Report West Coast Eagles December 7, 2009 6:39 AM GMT
will aussies have a go at the target if its 310 off 80 overs?

my gut tells me they will
Report Innocent Bystander December 7, 2009 6:40 AM GMT
with Gayle there and the last 2 wickets they wont score just 14 runs in 10 overs tomorrow

Will either be all out quickly or score 50 in 10 overs imho
Report West Coast Eagles December 7, 2009 6:40 AM GMT
aussies would only consider shutting down shop if they lost 6 wickets, and lost hope of chasing the target. but expect them to be interested in the target throughout the chase
Report Innocent Bystander December 7, 2009 6:40 AM GMT
One price is wrong - and I suspect its the 4.5
Report West Coast Eagles December 7, 2009 6:42 AM GMT
if req run rate is below 4.00 an over, i will be laying the Draw at anything under evens, Aussie team dont play for Draws.

1) Its not their style
2)Strong batting line up
3) Still a good batting wicket
Report Hopes December 7, 2009 6:43 AM GMT
If they score or not score by Windies they just need to hang for 5 overs min then its hard to chase over 4rr on 5th day pitch....
Report Innocent Bystander December 7, 2009 6:44 AM GMT
1) Its not their style - a lot of things arent their style, but their style has changed over the last 2 years
2)Strong batting line up - get through Ponting and its open
3) Still a good batting wicket - not for scoring quickly. Quality spin will have fun (and Warney would have won the game by now).

But market will believe the Aussie myth, which leaves good prices elsewhere :D
Report West Coast Eagles December 7, 2009 6:47 AM GMT
agree Hopes

batting for 10 overs tommorow = will be priceless. bat 10 overs is equivalent of 20 runs being scored, it eliminates time

In an ideal world, the windies will want to bat MAXIMUM = 20 overs (score about 60 runs)

leaves a target of 356 in 70 overs, which is tough to chase down
Report Lix December 7, 2009 6:49 AM GMT
Agree with IB. Aus scored at 3.34 rpo in the 1st inns when the going was good and the pressure was off (relatively) WI only need another 15-20 runs or so to make the RRR get above 3.8 which will be very tough against BigBenn ripping em out of the rough
Report Hopes December 7, 2009 6:53 AM GMT
In any case RR will come up very quickly over 3.5...

At present if WI all out on 2 balls then 2 overs dediction which means 87 over left for the match 296/87=3.4+...

If windies bats for atleast 5 over they can fight and win.
If they bat for 10 overs then draw nailed to 1.15-1.22

:)
Report BigMig December 7, 2009 6:55 AM GMT
Look what happened as soon as the Windies tried to accelerate. Perhaps they were listening to the brainless commentators.

Should still be an excellent final day, though.
Report Girls aloud lezzer scrum December 7, 2009 6:55 AM GMT
Windies price too big imo
Report Hopes December 7, 2009 6:57 AM GMT
This draw price will go down if runs comes or per over 10 points down.....

Other way if wks goes 90-even draw....

Still draw is value bet for all it seem......

Pitch is good but pressure always give edge for bowling
Report Girls aloud lezzer scrum December 7, 2009 7:10 AM GMT
261 runs on a day where Gayle batted through speaks volumes imo
Report Ernesto December 7, 2009 8:58 AM GMT
Think I set my alarm at the wrong time. Managed to lay the draw at 1.45.

What made it 1.2 ffs?

Was it the rain?
Report Smalltime Punter December 7, 2009 9:07 AM GMT
Assuming they can knock over the last two reasonably quickly and therefore at least have a chance, the Aus approach will surely be to bat normally until tea and see where they are then - if they're only 2 down then they'll give it a go. 3 down and they'll give it a cautious go, any more than that and they'll only go for it if they're still only 4 down an hour after tea.

They should consider tinkering with the batting order as well if they're going for the runs - e.g. send Haddin in above North and probably above Clarke as well. And Johnson could be promoted as well, depending on the situation.

Can't see them doing it though - just a question of whether WI can force the win. They probably can't, but 5/1 is not a bad price in my opinion.
Report Only-the-Brave December 7, 2009 10:54 AM GMT
Draw is still way too big here imo.
Report West Coast Eagles December 7, 2009 11:19 AM GMT
my thinking is along the lines of

big ifs:

West Indies should come out and aim to score 25 runs tommorow no matter, get that lead over 320. I dont care if they bash it around and get the 25 runs off 2 overs, or 25 runs off 10 overs. Every run is going to count here, make no mistake. Think of it this way, any score above 320 tommorow, is a bonus for the West Indies, any score less than 320 is a bonus for the Aussies.

its imperative to get that required run rate above 4 runs per hour. Australia have some good middle order accumlators in mike hussey, mike clarke and marcus north, should the game require a defence to save the game. I also think if Windies can break the top 3 batsman early: Ponting, Watson and Katich, this is where most of the quick runs come from, the game will be as good as a draw.

If you had asked the West Indies prior to play if they would have accepted 280/8 at the end of todays play, they would have taken it. Its just a shame they lost 4 wickets in the last session.
Report Ernesto December 7, 2009 11:56 AM GMT
Their coach is saying he favours declaring overnight,

"We know for a fact that the Australians don't like to be under pressure," said Williams, proving Tim Nielsen isn't the only coach in this match prepared to engage in psychological warfare. "It's a pressure sport, especially when there is a Test match and a Test series up for grabs.

"We're going to probably sit tonight and come up with a decision whether we feel we need more runs or if we're just going to call it quits and bowl from the start tomorrow. I think it's enough runs, that's my personal view, but again a discussion must take place with the captain and some of our senior players and we'll take it from there."
Report mittheimp December 7, 2009 12:52 PM GMT
mind games - no chance windies will decalre over night.
Report West Coast Eagles December 7, 2009 12:58 PM GMT
watch the west indies batted last 3 overs today, time wasting tactics, gayle taking over strike to block balls ...im sure they will bat tommorow, 296 is far from a safe lead
