Cracking wicket this, pace and bounce in it, gives any bowler worth his salt a chance. Plus good consistent bounce for the batsman as well.

The West Indies will not go away. Well deserved for Benn, he's put in a ton of work. They've completely relied on Benn and Roach though, which is why I don't think they can win. They may eek out a slight first innings lead, but I can't see them bowling Australia out with one days play.

The West Indian commentator on the ABC made a good point, for all the talk of the West Indies side, this is only half of the first line bowling attack. If they can get Edward, Taylor, Roach and Benn all fit and firing, it'd be a nice attack.

Rampaul and Sammy just aren't up to it. Sammy is coming in bowling 120km pies. It's like Ponting or Hussey bowling.

great entertainment. Aus layers would feel happy, but that 3rd innings is looming a little quicker than expected...19 overs left today...

Draw backers want Aus 9/420 at stumps i reckon
Report big c December 6, 2009 4:57 AM GMT
how is the weather for last 2 days
Report West Coast Eagles December 6, 2009 5:02 AM GMT
only concern i have is as a Draw backer, chris gayle may want to declare, and leave the aussies with an open target chase in order to level the series 1-1

but apart from that, i think the windies need to bat around 80 overs to insure at least a draw here
Report blackmarket December 6, 2009 5:03 AM GMT
Monday

Cloud increasing with a light shower or two developing during the afternoon,
becoming light rain during the evening. Mild to warm with light southeasterly
winds turning moderate south to southwest during the morning.

Tuesday

Morning rain

I'm confident (from miles away) it won't affect the result, but it may spook the market

i actually didnt factor into account the weather, but think it may be a big play here now
Report oitoitoi December 6, 2009 5:06 AM GMT
Amazed at how long a draw is, going to take a special effort or perhaps more likely an epic fail from the windies for a result here, especially with the chance of rain.
Report big c December 6, 2009 5:06 AM GMT
lets assume oz all out today by close means they equal score with windies, leaving six sessions game,if one session lost so windies have to insure batting 3 for draw coz cant see windies bowling oz in oz in 2 sessions
Report West Coast Eagles December 6, 2009 5:07 AM GMT

Is the wicket getting worse ? will batting become difficult final day IYO ?
Report Richard LL December 6, 2009 11:21 AM GMT
bowl a side out in 85 overs and then chase down a likely 300ish on a 5th day pitch, 6/4 you're having a laugh.
Report West Coast Eagles December 6, 2009 11:22 AM GMT
still a good batting wicket but Australia innings showed today, spin will be an important factor. Suliemann Benn grabbed 5 wickets. Will definetly harder to bat on day 5, facing the spinners, there is a bit of rough on the outside for left hand batsman on 1 side of the wicket.

Take it this way, Id rather be batting on this wicket on the 4th day, rather than the 5th day still.
Report West Coast Eagles December 6, 2009 11:25 AM GMT
Gayle if he gets to the point of declaration IMO should just bat bat and bat.

Aussies natural game is to be aggressive with the bat anyway, and if you give them a sniff at a target, they will go for it. Aussies batting not as good , batting defensively in order to save a game. The likes of Katich, Watson, Ponting, Haddin, North, Johnson are not defensive blockers , so if Gayle sets a total, in which it keeps both teams interested, it could be courageous decision but it could backfire.
Report mittheimp December 6, 2009 11:25 AM GMT
windies look a decent batting team in this test - ball all the way down. A silly collapse is of course possible - but i think they have their heads on properly this game. Aussies just dont have the fire power unless Johnson suddenly finds his magic again - been very ordinary this game so far - and Siddle may be injured and cant bowl. Barath, chanderpaul and sarwan all play spin very well.
Report Johnny Fontaine December 6, 2009 11:26 AM GMT
First thing I did this morning about 9 bells was to lay Oz at 2.34 but I did lay Windies at 7.4 for a couple of hundred. Not sure if the latter is a good move just yet
Report West Coast Eagles December 6, 2009 11:29 AM GMT
i tihnk though West Indies bowling attack will need more than 90.0 overs to bowl this Australian team out.

Rampaul, Darren Sammy these 2 have bowled ordinary so far.
Report mittheimp December 6, 2009 11:33 AM GMT
i agree - draw most likely result.
Roach and Benn have been the two best bowlers in the match so far though - but cant expect to do it on their own, think Bravo is not 100% as well. Windies 1 if not 2 test quality bowlers short of being properly match winning competative. but a stormer from Roach on an uneven surface on the last day is not impossible.
