On at 10.30 UK time.

Rain forecast at some stage today. Draw just come in in the past 1/2 hour.

Can the kiwis navigate their way to any break without losing wickets? On their performance so far unlikely.

Even if it rains today (expected evening time, lose a session say?), there are only a few early showers forecast for tomorrow.

Think its Kiwi v Pak for me, but Im sure we'll get a weather ramp sometime today (wheres Lippy)

SJ just cut the draw from 50s to 20s

probably under pressure as they were top price

I'm watching the webcam and can't tell if Wellington is usually that dark or if it's just the webcam settings.

Darker than Glasgow :D

they were saying how draw was $30 in Nz, then they said they wouldnt have a bet, then showed a shot of a cloud :D

lol cheers IB.

I have no doubt it will rain today - but you would need to lose 3 sessions for this to be a draw imho

Report STEPTOES YARD December 5, 2009 10:21 PM GMT
Unreal ern.

Said during first Test that mccullum batting 7 is crazy.

Should be in around 5
Report Lies, DamnLies, and Statistics December 5, 2009 10:22 PM GMT
want to maintain some sort of credibility in the players they pick as 'batsmen', imo
Report brentford December 5, 2009 10:23 PM GMT
McCullum and Dan both ducking responsibility imo
Report Innocent Bystander December 5, 2009 10:26 PM GMT
I dont think Vettori has much option, as he is currently selector, coach, captain, front line spinner, best batsman and team masseuse :0 If he bats any earlier he wouldnt be able to make the lunches and iron the whites
Report timmy2988 December 5, 2009 10:26 PM GMT
4 more

Entertaining stuff from Taylor.

Might as well go for it.
Report legend111 December 5, 2009 10:26 PM GMT
McCullum opens in 1 days why not in tests if they bat 1st he is fresh Vettori should really be a number 7 these days
Report brentford December 5, 2009 10:27 PM GMT
should still be higher than 8 though IB, been one of the better batsman in the team for a while now.
Maybe they should actually sort out those other issues.
Report STEPTOES YARD December 5, 2009 10:31 PM GMT
Ryder a big miss for this side

Been best Test bat of late and also *****in with few useful overs of medium pace.

They have tried so many up the top of the order - How,Macintosh, fulton and non seem up to it

Maybe mccullum opening is an idea.
Report brentford December 5, 2009 10:32 PM GMT
McCullum absolutely has to bat top 6 when Ryder isn't around and probably should even when he is,
Vettori no lower than 7 surely..
Report dougydougy. December 5, 2009 10:33 PM GMT
Think they should give How another go he looked alright to me. seemed to lose faith in him abit early.

How
Guptil
Flynn
Taylor
Mccullum
Vettori

Would be my top 6, Vettori is a genuine allrounder and by batting him at 6 you get an extra bowler in the side.
Report bigpoppapump December 5, 2009 10:33 PM GMT
Vettori is in the right spot. Don't see how anyone can argue with his output. If it aint broke don't**it - must be the world's best 8? leave him where he is imo.
Report dougydougy. December 5, 2009 10:34 PM GMT
oh yeah forgot jessie
Report STEPTOES YARD December 5, 2009 10:34 PM GMT
Had good hopes for Guptill when he made his debut last year but he also is struggling to take next step
Report brentford December 5, 2009 10:35 PM GMT
One of your more likely runscorers batting with rabbits isn't really good sense - that's why it virtually never happens in any other team.
Report dougydougy. December 5, 2009 10:35 PM GMT
nz team is broke though that's the problem if he's one of your top 6 test match batsman he has to bat in the top 6.
Report Girls aloud lezzer scrum December 5, 2009 10:35 PM GMT

Report Innocent Bystander December 5, 2009 10:36 PM GMT
Cmon, drive that draw price down to single figures please ;)
Report bigpoppapump December 5, 2009 10:37 PM GMT
he's not a v good batsman, and would be found out up the order and he knows it so continues to go in at the correct spot. the fact that several of the non bowling kiwis are also poor batsmen doesnt alter DV's ability.

leave it to the experts lads and get back to your NFL.
Report Innocent Bystander December 5, 2009 10:38 PM GMT
Taylor deposited the ball onto the highway and over the road :0
Report Mr. Moustache December 5, 2009 10:38 PM GMT
Think Taylor hits it about as far as anyone i've ever seen.
Report brentford December 5, 2009 10:39 PM GMT
suspect you're still evaluating his batting ability in the context of his whole career rather than the obvious to most development of it.
Report Lori December 5, 2009 10:39 PM GMT
That return throw was pretty special
Report STEPTOES YARD December 5, 2009 10:41 PM GMT
Think whichever way you try to work it, nz just aint got the players.

Hence the same old faces keep coming in and out of the side.

Unless they can get their very best side on the park they are really up against. Bond and Ryder huge holes in this side
Report dougydougy. December 5, 2009 10:43 PM GMT
Think he probably in NZ's top 4 test batsman right now, especially in sub continent conditions. I believe he top score in the NZ series in Bangladesh and SL. Might be a question of batting him up the order on slow low pitches such as those maybe as high as 5 and then back down at 7 on more bouncy tracks where his technique will get found out, wouldn't have him any lower than 7 in this Kiwi line up.
Report bigpoppapump December 5, 2009 10:44 PM GMT
I think he knows best tbh. I'm not evaluating anything I've seen - just based on his output from 8 it would be criminal to change that and get less out of him. I suspect that's why he bays where he bats [so successfully].

NZ are not gunna be world beaters by putting DV in at 6, so they might as well try to develop other specialist players. madness to put him at 6 or wherever, continue to be what they are [as a team] and have cr4p players going in at 8 who don't bowl and are also doomed to never improve cos they have fewer chances.
Report Saints December 5, 2009 10:47 PM GMT
good battle this taylor taking on gul
Report Ernesto December 5, 2009 10:47 PM GMT
Think Guptill is a good option but not as an opener. Can't they train an opener to be a Tavare'

I'd send the best prospects abroad to learn their trade as NZ can be an incredibly insular sporting society. Remember their incredulity at not winning the Rugby World Cup for so long

The All Whites have only qualified for the World Cup after all because they've got players at Celtic, Blackburn and Plymouth. :D
Report brentford December 5, 2009 10:47 PM GMT
If you're not getting anything out of poor batsmen you may as well improve the balance of the side and have a 5th frontline bowler, more valuable than a permanent failure in the middle order..

suspect we're not going to agree anyway ;)
Report bigpoppapump December 5, 2009 10:50 PM GMT
if you're cr4p you might as well have a balnced cr4p side, rather than an imbalanced cr4p one.

one has more chance to improve than the other.

if this was a serious option answer this: why does DV continue to bat at 8?

we wont agree you're right. one if us is wrong ;)
Report dougydougy. December 5, 2009 10:51 PM GMT
Not sure about that brenty bigpop is well known for backing down and conceding he's wrong when he's presnted with an opposing logical well reasoned argument.
Report brentford December 5, 2009 10:51 PM GMT
surely 5 bowlers is a balanced side with McCullum and Vettori the all rounders at 6 and 7 ?
Report bigpoppapump December 5, 2009 10:52 PM GMT
oh dougy you're here? !!

that's funny because the last time i encountered you on here you were decrying the boring pitch in the second Ind/SL Test. [you know, the one that lasted 4 days]. You declared the death of Test cricket at some point just before lunch on day 1 iirc.

Just went to prove the point about Vettori batting higher by checking out Hadlee's stats and he scored all of his runs at 7 and 8.

Has DV batted higher consistently?

Think there's no argument about McCullum. He should open ala Dilshan.
