So expecting either india to win or it to be a draw but which one?

India Win:
Won last test on a batting track
Normally a result in mumbai
Wont Rain so will have full 5 days to bowl sri lanka out twice

Draw Win:
Was nearly a draw when england won here when it was very low scoring although as we know england dont bat quick
Two good batting teams

So will there be a result?

the draw price will drift miles if these 2 get out soon, tail is hopeless. plus they've scored at such a quick rate today

Report STEPTOES YARD December 2, 2009 9:56 AM GMT
Sorry I mean scoring at slow rate worse for draw
Report Test Match Matt December 2, 2009 9:57 AM GMT
dnt agree that it'll drift miles monty, but i do think it's too short. (however we have seen this before where the pitch just dies after a bit of hope on day 1 n becomes ridiculously easy to bat)

(as IB said at some ungodly hour this morning!!)
Report STEPTOES YARD December 2, 2009 9:57 AM GMT
I mean if they were 260-6 would be longer draw price than 344-6
Report Monty's Wonderbra December 2, 2009 9:58 AM GMT
yes, but if it does flatten out it benefits india. because lanka have scored quickly the game has moved on quickly. if india bat for 2 days then there is still time for them to force result on day 4 and 5 pitch against a lankan line up that loves to give wickets away
Report Lori December 2, 2009 9:59 AM GMT
Crossed lines there then SY I think, Monty means they're better off being 350-6 at end of day one than lunch on day two.

Both arguments make sense in context

Hard to see a draw now

If INdia bat 2 days Lanka unlikely to survive

If India out cheaply then result possible

If India out for parity Lanka will have to set a target to tie the series

Wouldnt be a draw backer now
Report STEPTOES YARD December 2, 2009 10:33 AM GMT

Hi All.. A very interesting day :0

Just about even stevens .... but lanka, and the injun doubters on here ;) , will be the more dissapointed :(

On a result pitch, winning the toss and getting to 90-0 and 180-2 .. lanka SHOULD have batted injuns out of the game by now ... they failed.. and this failure will cost them this match ;)

Lanka look on course for around their average innings score for the series so far of around 400 ... trouble for them is... the injun are averiging 500 this series ;) ... On this pitch a score of 500 by injuns will mean GSM to them... Bhajji was good today .. but imagine the carnage he will cause on day 4 :0

To those that may still be unsure ?:| about the destiny of this test i say this:

Sri lanka in their 2 innings will not score over 200 ... therefore to win this test, injuns need to score around 600 at most in 2 innings ... can this classical batting lineup that is averaging 500 per innings in thgis series score 600 in 2 innings ? ..i say YES.. i know that.. you know that... every tom dick and harry krishna know that :)

Only the very optimistic injun doubters will think they cannot score 600 in 2 innings..i have no doubt at all..in fact the ONLY doubt in my mind is.. Do injuns need 2 innings to score 600 .. or just the one innings ;)

Nuff said.... lanka had their chances today .. this game is over as a contest..india will seize control of this test tomroow and on the 3rd day.. only question remaining in my mind is wether injuns win in 4 days.... or can lanka prolong a slow lingering death into a 5th day :)

Good Luck all :)
Report avalanche December 2, 2009 2:47 PM GMT
Wow, looks like I am the only who finds Lanka value here. Herath was tricky on his last balls on 2nd test and if Murali gets some kind of movement, I believe 400 is over par score here. But a lot depends on Murali.

SL for me too but not at this price. would want to see MM causing problems and not lacking the fizz and snap thats been missing recently. Think Kula and Welly can do well here though. Cant see a draw at all.
Report Hopes December 2, 2009 3:14 PM GMT
BJ..

Few things with your points i agree....

1st. Lanka will go around 400.
2nd. 4 & 5th day batting is not so easy.
3rd. Lanka did not take advantage of score 180/2.

But few thing which i assume still favours Lanka.

1. From day 3 batting is not easy on this pitch.
2. India has to bat last no doubt abt it.
3. As per my view india will short of 50-75 runs in 1st inning....
4. In 2nd inning of lanka out chaeply then india has good chance.

Best of all Bj.

kind of agree, but the indians could also have done a lot better from 200-4 and as usual were let down by some** poor captaincy and loose bowling, and had Harper to thank for a shocker to keep them in the match

sri lanka favourites for a first innings lead for me, cant really argue with the match odds

Report TwoTonTed December 2, 2009 6:30 PM GMT
Draw Greens are trump cards card to hold in the short term, to be used wisely as circumstances determine. If you dont get the chance to play them, so be it, but worth owning imo. This is Asia after all ;)
Report LuisGarcia December 2, 2009 6:32 PM GMT
can see good reasons to back the draw at the moment... short term it looks value for a trade; batting hasn't been too tricky yet and India have no need to rush for a win being one up in the series, should trade 3.2 or below at some point tomorrow. Can't really see it finishing a draw, but wouldn't want to lay it now.

personally think draw looks a decent bet

if anything the batting looks to be getting easier, so . . . 40 wickets, 5 days, 8 wickets a day . . . . 8 wickets fell today which i think will be the harest batting day for the next 2 days, and it was lost by the team trying to force the pace . . .

think india wont be in such a rush, and will be on easier batting track, so if anything, think the draw is worth a back for the next 2 days . . .

agree it probably wownt be a draw, but well worth a back for medium term, will be shocked if it doesnt get to 2.3 or so again this test

Report Lix December 2, 2009 9:04 PM GMT
SL a medium term lay for me . Very hard to beat India in their own backyard. I'd want more than 11/8 about a side that's yet to take any Injun wkts, will have to bat again (and force the pace, maybe declare too early) who's attack has looked pretty toothless thus far this series.

Not sure about Vijay opening (BJ tells me he's good :) ) but India have an awesome top 7 and isnt their tail stronger than the last game? i.e. Sreesanth is better than Ishant. Is Ohja better than Mishra with the bat? anyway, happy to let a SL lay ride till India have finished the 1st inns. Can always get out the heavy ammo to smash my way out If India get rolled and we're looking at SL vs Draw. cant see SL being less than 1.5 to finish the job if they're well on top going into the 4th inns.

I actually think Sri Lanka is on top here. Yes, the market doesn't rate them. But when you take a closer look at their form, they have only lost 10 out of their past 40 matches. Hardly a poor record. Secondly, those losses (bar two against Australia) were when they posted 220-260 scores in their first innings. And on the two occasions they posted 381, and 401 and lost, they didn't bat first, hence having to bat last on a wearing pitch. On all other occasions where have managed to bat first and post 400+, they have either won or drawn.

So point is, if they can get to 380 etc. they'll be hard to beat you'd think here.
Report in hell December 3, 2009 6:57 AM GMT
