Well done England, came home to see they were 20 odd for no loss, decided to wait till they lost a wicket to bet, went in at 2.16 and 2.3 after they lost strauss, then KP.

Was a bit frustrated when they were getting the odd single off the over and batting like it was a test match, but they've played brilliantly, thoroughly deserved the win. Couldn't have asked for more, well done Colly on your century, well done trott.

Gibbs called up to replace Kallis - panic move by Saffers?
Report Ekbalco November 22, 2009 7:48 PM GMT
Their chase of 280 in the warm up game against SAF 'A'(?)was magnificent and very much made them Favs for this game, particularly with the disjointed look to the Kallisless Saffers.
This was a thrashing and it's a long way backforthe Boers who look all over the place.
Report fundamentalist November 22, 2009 8:16 PM GMT
not sure what bringing back Gibbs would achieve because it doesnt address the balance of the side. Saffers big problem is without Kallis, and Morkel looking a liability with the ball, then they havent got room to pick an extra batter, hence gibbs only likely to replace amla or peterson, which on todays evidence would be harsh on either, and not necessarily improve the side

If theyre not prepared to bat Morkel until the last 10 overs (despite Arthurs comments to the contrary recently) then theyve got to be prepared to use one of McLaren, Boucher and Van der Merwe higher up the order

For me their bowling looks a bigger issue than their batting
Report Innocent Bystander November 22, 2009 8:29 PM GMT
If they bring Gibbs back he will only really open - Alma is a good foil to Smith so dont need to go down that route.

Bat Gibbs at 5? I think England would be happy with that
Report chumptastic November 22, 2009 8:31 PM GMT
if abraham benjamin is a number 3, i am the solution to england's opening bowler problem.

amla
smudger
gibbs
kallis/peterson
de villiers
duminy

that should be the top six, with johannes albertus carrying the drinks.
Report fundamentalist November 22, 2009 8:41 PM GMT
chump

is de villiers keeping or you only picking 4 bowlers?

on a serious note, leaving boucher out and ab keeping may be the best way for the saffers to balance their side in kallis absence
Report Innocent Bystander November 22, 2009 8:44 PM GMT
AB is beyond keeping now dontcha know
Report Deadly Earnest November 22, 2009 8:47 PM GMT
Abraham Benjamin is a poor number 3 because a scorching cut shot happened to be plucked out of the air by Paul David in his first go there?

I think a certain Chump Elias Tastic is acting on slender evidence here.

I wouldn't be reading too much into the South African batting toda.
Report Deadly Earnest November 22, 2009 8:48 PM GMT
y.
Report Innocent Bystander November 22, 2009 9:02 PM GMT
what do you read into their bowling though?
Report chumptastic November 22, 2009 9:56 PM GMT
nothing to do with today's failure for abraham benjamin.
in my opinion, in ODI's, a 3 has to effectively be an opener, because it won't be rare for him to come in at 20/1.
ab was tried as an opener, they decided his technique wasn't upto it, and moved him down the order. he has now moved back up, with no noticeable improvement in his technique.

when kallis is fit to bowl, i would have him and duminy as my fifth bowler. when he is not, give ab the gloves. boucher isnt what he used to be.

vd merwe, steyn and parnell as 3 of the 4 bowlers. morne, botha and mclaren to fight out the fourth (and possible fifth) bowler roles.
