thought i'd start one of these off... been trying to get a back away on sri lanka for the past few hours... price has come below 5s now, unfortunately.

anyone else think draw backers could be sweating a little bit tomorrow - if they've been backing below 1.5s (unless you got that spike of 2, of course!)?

i cant remember many captivating tests between SL/india/pak/bangladesh in the subcontinent

occasionally we get one like india vs england last year where they chased 350 odd onthe last day, but really it seems like at least 80% of them are worthless. Huge totals on flat pitches, total waste of 5 days and no wonder so few fans go there, i wouldnt bother to watch this if it was in my back yard ffs.

best tests are between Aus/SA/India in Australia and SA, by quite a distance too.

all the pitches have something in it, the matches where we see 350 odd as par for first innings are the best. remember Aus in SA a few years back, i think aus won 3-0 but it was as tight a 3-0 as you'd ever see, the pitches were great for seamers and you couldnt predict who would win

Report Super Vixen November 20, 2009 9:55 AM GMT
Ist match in the series, SL batted fairly slowly when they had the chance to put their foot down and set up a more attacking declaration, India batting to ensure the draw, guy close to a century - keep them out there.

No problem whatsoever with any of that.

Much more of a problem with telling your supposed world class spin attack to chuck it two feet down legside on day 3!
Report fundamentalist November 20, 2009 10:01 AM GMT
whats crazy is indias serve up picthes like this and still think they need 7 batsmen at the expense of a 5th bowler
Report good value losers November 20, 2009 10:18 AM GMT
test cricket has always been like this in india - big scores on flat pitches. the fcking arrogance of those posters who seek to try and dictate to them how to run their cricket is quite sickening.

Its not arrogant to point out that these types of games are dull as f uck. The Indians even agree hence the pathetic crowds.
Report thetitan November 20, 2009 10:32 AM GMT
england generally has a decent array of pitches, but carp weather, bad light etc, consistently playing decent sides who seem to crumble to them at home (eg SL, pak) mean that matches are fairly one sided all the same, or at the very least, very predictable

What does anybody know about the Nagpur pitch? Similar to this or a bit more life?
Report michael knight November 20, 2009 4:46 PM GMT
Only been one test at Nagpur - India beat the aussies by 150+ runs last year. Indians scored 450 ish followed by 350ish by the aussies then it was something like 250 and 200 all out in the 4th innings. Krejza, HArbhajan and Mishra all did well.
Report Innocent Bystander November 20, 2009 5:14 PM GMT
However, next test is at Kanpur...
Report bigjoe November 20, 2009 5:19 PM GMT
great, classical test match batting y the injuns :)

We all agree tht it was not ideal test pitch...... but its interesting to note the reaction to this pitch and the one here last year :0 .. if you cast your memories back, in that test against saffers, Inia won the toss and batted ...injuns slipped to 30-4 with assistence for seamers in first hour of test with moisture in pitch ... all out for 70 :(

The pitch then got drier..saffers scored 450 ....injuns in 2nd innings scored 378 :0 .. suggesting btting got easier as mtch progressed :0

No moans bout the pitch last year .... why ? .. cos though it was as flt s this .. there was a result ..inia lost which pleased a few people ;) .. and he draw layers got their dosh ;)

BUT this time, india recovered from 30-4 and posted 400+ .. the pitch agin got easier as it did last year ... but this tme people up in arms . Why ? . cos India did not lose ;) .. nd the draw layers did not collect :(
Report michael knight November 20, 2009 5:32 PM GMT
Ahh Kanpur.

Wasnt that the ground where an absolute dustbowl was doctored up since the Saffers were 1 nil going into the final test here a year or 2 ago?

Very hard to predict test pitches in India imo because the sample of recent matches is so small (due to their rotation policy).

Interesting bit on cricinfo. Apparently the BCCI get paid by their main broadcaster per day of test cricket not by match so there is pressure to ensure that matches last 5 days.
