They have conceded 39 runs in 40 mins since tea, Hardly keeping scoring down.

awful tactics

Draw price looks good value to me. Lankans not pushing hard for victory. Take out the 4 early wickets india lost due to poor shots on a damp pitch, and and we've had a wicket every 25 overs.

Hate it when the comms bash all this negative bowling crap. SL are going to get 650 here no matter what. Dhoni trying to slow them down , all the great teams don't like losing, did exactly teh same against aus last year, worked a treat. Aus did it to engalnd a few years ago with warne and mcgrath in the team, worked there as well. They would do it themselves if they were on the field so quit talking about all this attacking cricket cr*p!!!

Whats the highest partnership in tests by two namesakes? I assumed the Waughs had a big partnership, but can we call this a namesake partnership (albeit unrelated)?
Report dougydougy. November 18, 2009 9:55 AM GMT
This is exactly the kind of session the double figure sl backers did not want in this test, a nothing session, a meandering session, you know in your heart the batters are playing for there landmarks. That they are "setting up the game" but under a 100 runs in a session with 30 overs bowled and no wickets lost is a bit annoying. Good captaincy from Dhoni though.

If SL don't take the chance here to win this match by taking a few risks tomorrow it might come back to bite them.

halved my green on sl with a draw bet. :-(
Report Super Vixen November 18, 2009 9:58 AM GMT

Report Innocent Bystander November 18, 2009 10:16 AM GMT
Waughs had a 231 partnership

Their highest test partnership was their 231-run fourth-wicket stand to clinch Australia's first win in the West Indies in 22 years in the deciding fourth test at Kingston in May 1995, when Steve made 200 and Mark 126 to set up an innings victory.
Report Innocent Bystander November 18, 2009 10:18 AM GMT
Chappells 201

Greg Chappell emerged as a prolific batsman during the series, batting one place below his brother in the order. The siblings shared several crucial partnerships, [6] most notably 201 at the Oval in the last Test when they became the first brothers to score centuries in the same Test innings
Report bigjoe November 18, 2009 10:44 AM GMT
Injun win looking a tad dodgy now :( .. only tiny chance for them is another run a ball 300 from sehwag ;) .. the pitch breaking up for last 2 sessions on day 5 and lanka skittled out or less then 200 in those sessions ... possible i guess, but unlikely :(

So i reckon we are down to 2 results now ... i think lanka missed a trick today ....they should have kicked on in last session and get lead of 220 and declred overnight and critically has the new ball first thing tomorrow when there will be moisture in pitch for 1st hour or so and they could have knocked a couple over :0 . as it is, they will now bat on till clse to lunch and batting will be easier for injuns in last 2 sessions

So i think the draw is now nailed on ..unless the pitch breaks up completely overnight and murali and herath get into it big time.

Good Luck all :)

Day 1 = 385 runs 6 wickets
Day 2 = 316 runs 7 wickets

make of that what you will i expect SL to score 550 minimum which means they should bat out the day tomorrow prob 580/9 at stumps day 3 so India 160 behind but a better batting side draw defo but india will not win

they did better than i imagined but draw guarenteed now
Report SPORTSTRADER November 18, 2009 12:31 PM GMT

I make them 100 plus pokes, can't win for mine.
One for the big hitting layers IMO!
Report da77ler. November 18, 2009 1:57 PM GMT
true india are 160 behind with 180 overs to be bowled i expect SL to bat for another 30 overs to get a 350 lead with 150 overs left their is no way india can knock those off and make a lead plus bowl SL out
Report BigMig November 18, 2009 1:58 PM GMT
India will have to bat for a minimum of 110 overs under pressure on a day 4-5 pitch against the highest wicket-taker in Test history for this to be a draw.

Sure, the pitch is flat. Sure, Murali ain't the bowler he was. And sure the draw should probably be favourite.

But it ain't nailed on.
Report Johnny Fontaine November 18, 2009 2:00 PM GMT
Still bullish the draw. Pitch docile , turn low and slow. Expect a dec. after lunch. Will start watching then. As Poppa rightly states it will be brown pants for the first few overs but then expect to see a nice draw drop.
If I get up and their all ready 3 down before lunch with layers backslapping each other and that sh1t- for- brains Schweg holding out at long on, I'll be incandescent :|

Report Asparagus Man November 18, 2009 2:43 PM GMT
Could be some very low draw prices coming, but SL only need to take 3 or 4 wickets tomorrow to be well in this.

Don't forget the Indian 8-11 is pretty weak batting wise (so is SL's - but we haven't got that far yet)

SL finish at lunch 250 odd ahead. India 190-3/4 at close still gives SL a great chance.
Report good value losers November 18, 2009 3:11 PM GMT
draw driffy 5 ticks since close of play :0 do THEY know something?
Report michael knight November 18, 2009 4:38 PM GMT
I think the pitch will play well enough to ensure the Indians a draw if they bat with sense. However, the pressure of being 200-250 runs behind can make cricketers do funny things. Whilst most of my green is on the draw, if I was coming into this market now without having had a bet I wouldnt touch the draw at this price.
Report TopTier November 18, 2009 5:35 PM GMT
Ideally for a result, I would like to see SL bat to Tea 400 or so ahead, getting India in as late a possible. India 2 down at stumps, 3 more before lunch day fire and Murali finishing them off with plenty to spare thereafter. SL all-out too early, i.e around lunch, will help the draw imo.
Report johnterry 26 November 18, 2009 5:40 PM GMT
If SL can bat to a lead of 400, that is a score of 826 the I'd make India a very very short price to be able to bat out 3 or 4 sessions. That said I do agree with the sentiment that it's crucial for them to get their runs batting now rather than batting last in order to maximise chance of a win.
Report d13phe November 18, 2009 6:21 PM GMT
fancy SL to win this test tbh

i have from the off,

india look like they are going through the motions

come day 5 and murali, they will be right up against it.

not sure if they are in the right frame of mind to cope with it.
Report TwoTonTed November 18, 2009 6:47 PM GMT
on reflection since close of play I think this pretty finely balanced between Draw/SL (forget India) and wouldnt back the draw now with a **tystick. Well, actually, my book heavily favours the draw (massive India red); it's all about timing as to when or even whether I dump it :)
