I know a guy called Steve Burnett who used to play in some forces team or another. Run-out specialist

gangles ineligible on account that he doesn't actually run...

although tbf back in the days of cricket for south of eng XI, in my dayboo season, batting at 5, i had 8 innings, got run out 6 times...by the end of the season i was p1ss scared of even leaving the crease...so in my last knock i managed 0 off 15, and promptly got run out by the guy at the other end who'd apparently been instructed by the coach to do so...looking back, i dont blame them...

i think ganguly deserves the prize because he isnt just incompetent at running himself out, he ran out tendulkar and dravid plenty of times...and often pulled rank on the younger kids too

Graeme Wood? Geoffrey Boycott? Denis Compton? Inzy?
Report TopTier November 6, 2009 5:40 PM GMT
I think Boycott would nominate Botham.

It was his involvement in the run out in the Pak-NZ game which tempted me to start the discussion, I'm also surprised it took so long for him to get a mention

Some people have a recollection long than 8 hours. ;-)

There's an article on Cricinfo about MoYo's running - apparently he's been run out 38 times in ODIs! About 1 in every 6 of his dismissals is a run out, which is staggering. Even allowing for the fact that he must have been running with Inzamam a lot of the time, that's pretty inept.
Report TopTier November 6, 2009 9:44 PM GMT
Yeah, 17% in odi. Pretty damning.

of all his cricketing, ahem, "skills", i don't think his running is the one he would be disappointed with.

I played a season of indoor cricket a few years back then proceeded to get involved in around a dozen run outs the next season. And wasnt the one out once :)

got to agree with steve burnett absolute awful between the wickets, remember a cup final game we were in once needed 1 to win with 3 wickets left, ran the captain out in the penultimate over then got clean bowled next ball leaving us with 1 to win off the last over, luckily the number 11 hit a 4 off the penultimate ball to win the game classic stuff.
