Betfair need to review their suspension policy - the game wasnt over and yet they had shut down the market.

shocking
Report metal guru November 5, 2009 4:03 PM GMT
terrible-can't suspend on a third umpire referral
Report brentford November 5, 2009 4:03 PM GMT
you'd think with all the money they take form others efforts they could afford better staff
Report Beer and Skittles November 5, 2009 4:07 PM GMT
They were probably just a bit jumpy, facing the prospect of another thai!! :)
Report Birchola November 5, 2009 4:11 PM GMT
The third umpire is the SUSPEND guy.
Report Lix November 5, 2009 4:11 PM GMT
correct decision imo. game was over at the point of the bails being broken.
Report Birchola November 5, 2009 4:13 PM GMT
I agree with Lix.

They do the same for other sports. If in doubt, suspend. If there's a potential red card for example in the football they suspend until they're sure of the outcome.
Report cdog November 5, 2009 4:14 PM GMT
I think the market should be suspended as soon as the match MIGHT be over, in the same way as they suspend a football match if a goal MIGHT have been scored, only to unsuspend again if it turned out it was disallowed.
Report cdog November 5, 2009 4:14 PM GMT
so in other words I agree with Lix and Birchola :)
Report brentford November 5, 2009 4:14 PM GMT
should by that stance surely do that on every wicket ?
Report Lix November 5, 2009 4:14 PM GMT
yep, would have unsuspended if not out. whats the problem?
Report Lix November 5, 2009 4:15 PM GMT
game not decided every wkt!
Report brentford November 5, 2009 4:16 PM GMT
was answering cdog - but apprecitae your enthusiasm Lix.
Report cdog November 5, 2009 4:18 PM GMT
But the game doesn't end on a wicket unless it's the final wicket or the final ball, so no need to suspend on the other wickets or potential wickets.
Report brentford November 5, 2009 4:18 PM GMT
game doesn't end on a goal or a red card either
Report brentford November 5, 2009 4:19 PM GMT
suspension for wickets if to follow the football lead would be on all wickets, hugely significant on many (most) occassions
Report bohemond November 5, 2009 4:20 PM GMT
Suspension was premature and anyone defending it is just WRONG
Report cdog November 5, 2009 4:20 PM GMT
No but betfair's rule is to cancel bets on a goal or red card, so it's right to suspend when there is a potential one. It's also right to suspend when there is a potential reason to either cancel bets or end the game.
Report Birchola November 5, 2009 4:20 PM GMT
Wickets can have as big an influence on a market change as a goal can in footy so why is it not suspended at the fall of a wicket?
Report brentford November 5, 2009 4:22 PM GMT
so you think a random approach is better cdog ?

plenty of cricket matches and other sports left open for ever after the game but because not key markets it's ok ?
Report cdog November 5, 2009 4:22 PM GMT
No I think they should all be suspended at the end but sadly I don't work for BF :(
Report brentford November 5, 2009 4:23 PM GMT
this game was indetermined at the suspension (for clarity)
Report Lix November 5, 2009 4:25 PM GMT
would be open to hoovering from the 3rd ump booth. (i know many things are open to hoovering which they do nothing about) I was expecting a suspension as soon as it went upstairs and the game could be over.
Report brentford November 5, 2009 4:27 PM GMT
would be open to hoovering from the 3rd ump booth

Much like any wicket on referal ever
Report Lix November 5, 2009 4:29 PM GMT
true!
Report good value losers November 5, 2009 4:33 PM GMT
comparing it with a footie match is incorrect. footie is officially a managed market and betfair have a duty to suspned at cetain times. cricket is an unmanaged market and betfair have no duty even to suspend at the end of the match.
Report timmy2988 November 5, 2009 4:34 PM GMT
game was over
Report bohemond November 5, 2009 4:35 PM GMT
taking a view is allowable on any 3rd ump referral during the game
Report good value losers November 5, 2009 4:36 PM GMT
no it wasn't. it wasn't over until the 3rd ump decision was flashed on the screen
Report thetitan November 5, 2009 4:53 PM GMT
if it wasnt suspended then you'd have already had dozens of posts on here about how the hooverers had taken all their money...it was 1.7ish at the time of run out with a lot of money available down til 1.01

this would have all been hoovered on the first replay of the run out...so i dont see the problem....not that i had money up at that point :0
Report thetitan November 5, 2009 4:54 PM GMT
although i do vaguely understand the people calling for consistency
Report brentford November 5, 2009 4:56 PM GMT
so hooverers should only win at any time that isn't the defined end ?
Report Jan1ne November 5, 2009 6:23 PM GMT
very revealing those (wrongly) claiming it was suspended too early
Report brentford November 5, 2009 6:46 PM GMT
think it through imo...

people ahead of pics consistently.....why would the last ball be an area of interest ?
Report Scottyn November 5, 2009 7:34 PM GMT
as someone said - the game was over the moment the bails were broken....
Report anyother November 5, 2009 8:21 PM GMT
hello scotty and brenty .. where youz been .. over the "other" place with pop/fundy/sparts i'd guess ?

...and for what its worth I'm not too fussed by the suspension. I was changing out of my third pair of trousers at the time.

When Kumar's first ball went over the fence I had to retire for hygiene reasons.

anyother - nah I'm just less social (forum wise) - re other place, don't believe the hype...

hope you're well sir.

as someone said - the game was over the moment the bails were broken....

No it wasn't. The game is over when the final batsman is out, and he was not out until the third umpire gave him out.
Report anyother November 5, 2009 9:42 PM GMT
chicken wings at dawn :0

always value u'r input brenty ;)
Report cdog November 5, 2009 10:03 PM GMT
Actually I think Scotty is right. The batsman was out when the bails were broken, but nobody knew he was out, until the 3rd umpire confirmed it!
Report anyother November 5, 2009 10:09 PM GMT
where's grim when you need him :(
Report Max and Paddy November 5, 2009 10:12 PM GMT
A batsman is not out when he edges the ball to the wicketkeeper and the keeper takes the catch. He is out when the umpire raises his finger.
Report brentford November 5, 2009 10:13 PM GMT
M&P is correct in FACT imo
Report good value losers November 6, 2009 2:12 PM GMT
one step missed out - the fielding side have to appeal, then the ump has to give it lol now that would be quite a**if the fielding team were to decline to appeal :^0
