I have volunteered to be a driver. Nothing else to do as there is no sport  on and no prospect of work while the pubs and clubs are shut.

Here are the ways you can support:

Community Response volunteer: This role involves collecting shopping, medication or other essential supplies for someone who is self-isolating, and delivering these supplies to their home.

Patient Transport volunteer: This role supports the NHS by providing transport to patients who are medically fit for discharge, and ensuring that they are settled safely back in to their home.

NHS Transport volunteer: This role involves transporting equipment, supplies and/or medication between NHS services and sites, it may also involve assisting pharmacies with medication delivery.

Check-in and Chat volunteer: This role provides short-term telephone support to individuals who are at risk of loneliness as a consequence of self-isolation.

where does the vehicle/ transport come from ?
Report Angoose March 24, 2020 8:39 PM GMT
I'd imagine that you will be expected to volunteer that as well for the majority of cases.

Be big insurance Issues if People using own vehicle ?? Or are vehicles provided ??
Report Ibrahima Sonko March 25, 2020 12:39 PM GMT
Government will cover that.
Report Angoose March 25, 2020 12:47 PM GMT
I'd imagine that they will hope that many of the volunteers will also volunteer their own vehicles.
Difficult to imagine that there is a fleet of vehicles on standby awaiting an army of volunteers to drive them.
Report Ibrahima Sonko March 25, 2020 1:22 PM GMT
I meant they will use their own vehicles and the government would insure them whilst carrying out duties.

I've signed up.  Got fk all else to do as self employed and all work cancelled.  Don't mind doing a bit of driving just as an excuse to get out of the house tbh.

If anyone is good on the phone, they are looking for Tele operators to chat to the lonely, which I think is great idea.

Unfortunately not for me as most wouldn't understand what the feck I was saying with my Irish accent.

WD everyone who helps in all the roles, great initiative by the tories for a change.

They run volunteer programmes all year round.
This is thus an expansion of an existing scheme, albeit on a huge scale.

Not sure how this can work without recruiting 500,000 "middle management" volunteers
Report Sowerby Boy March 25, 2020 5:31 PM GMT
