Don't get so upset about it case.  They will still be able to read the guardian.  After all, that is where the bbc gets its news from

Just got up and checked the beeb for local weather damage, live headline is

Women's FA Cup fixture cancelled
A number of sports fixtures had to be called off yesterday.

Now today's Women's FA Cup match between Arsenal and Lewes has been postponed.

Citing crowd safety issues and weather conditions, the Arsenal Women team said in a statement that the match will now be played on Sunday 23 February.

"The safety of all supporters at Meadow Park is of paramount importance, while we have also taken consideration of the impact of weather conditions on the journey Lewes supporters will be making," the club said.

The beeb have decided that women's football is equivalent in stature to the men's game, and that's that.

despite all its struggles and attacks by the right, over 80% of the electorate still like the bbc and see it as a force of good

The wider point is that the law states a tv licence is mandatory to watch non bbc programming. It’s a defenceless position.

Scrap it and let the people decide if they want to subscribe to Aunty.
Report Aspro • February 16, 2020 1:26 PM GMT
Most subscriptions (Prime, Netflix etc) cost around £7.99 per month (or less if paid annually). BBC costs almost £13 regardless. It will be interesting to see how much they charge if they are forced to go down the same avenue... or will they revert to advertising?
Report PorcupineorPineapple • February 16, 2020 1:35 PM GMT
How would you unsubscribe from BBC radio?
Report Injera • February 16, 2020 1:37 PM GMT
Radio would have to use ads.

I recently moved home, forgot to notify tv license of my address change, I was decorating, literally painting the inside of my front door, when the bell went, he must have heard the brush strokes going up and down the door as he approached, I had paint on all my hands and couldn't be bothered to go upstairs, wash my hands, get my key, go back downstairs and open the door, so I just stood there (not knowing who it was at this time) waiting for a leaflet or something through the letterbox, I looked through the doorhole and he was showing his ID, as If I can read anything on it through there lol, he put through a letter and walked off and I carried on painting, he heard the brush strokes again, came back and pressed the bell again, stood there for another few seconds, so did he, and then he walked off again and I carried on painting, again, not an interesting story but it amused me and just felt the urge to share itGrin at least he had a nice car journey through the country.

Many MPs say those who are unwilling or unable to pay the compulsory fee - which from April will rise by £3 to £157.50 a year - should not be prosecuted. The BBC has warned such a change could have a significant impact on its finances and potentially put some of its output at risk.

So the only reason a high Percentage are paying is the Fear of Prosecution , Have you ever heard anything Like it ..

That is in the words of the BEEB

“In 2020, when we’re looking at a world of populism, a world in which elites are being challenged an awful lot, the idea of criminal sanctions over the licence fee sticks in a lot of people’s throats,” he told the Guardian.
Julian Knight, chair-elect of the House of Commons culture select committee, says the public are increasingly struggling to accept criminalisation of those who fail to pay the £154.50 charge.
