Asda has announced it will stop selling kitchen knives by the end of April in response to concerns over knife crime.
The supermarket chain confirmed knives will be removed from all stores.

“The decision to stop selling these items comes in response to rising concerns about knife crime in the UK, particularly those involving children and young people,” a spokesman for the supermarket chain said in a statement.

Asda's owned by Walmart, but I didn't have much luck when I tried to buy an assault rifle off them last week.

Laugh

If everybody follows Asda's example we should be safe...erm how are we going to cut our food up for eating?????

The poster who suggested round instead of pointed knives seems a reasonable idea...although they can always be sharpened

I do hope our young criminals do not switch to forks or spoons  because if we have to ban those as well it will make eating very hardSad

It's not really about opinion it's about common sense, 1 item being removed from a store when they sell such a wide variety of products these days is not likely to take away custom, I don't even think it's worthwhile unless there was a concerted effort amongst all retailers to do the same, but no business will turn down the opportunity to be given publcity for their buisness for free especially on a national level.

On certain occasions I refuse a metal spoon.

Caviar loves cold and crystal, and hates metal. According to true caviar fiends, the best way to enjoy caviar is by spooning it out of a very cold crystal glass. But be careful, the spoon should be made from bone, horn or mother of pearl. Even plastic is fine – or, you could serve it like it’s served in the Emirates and use a 24 karat gold spoon. Anything is better than contaminating the delicate flavour of these black eggs with any kind of metallic taste. The most refined palates insist on mother-of-pearl, whose glimmering incandescent whiteness is an aesthetically pleasing contrast to the shiny black of the caviar.

This applies to all stores. Not just Morissons. It's a silly rule and easily circumvented. The thing is, one pack of paracetemol, 16 tablets, taken at once would probably be fatal anyway (Liver failure, not quick, not pleasant).

We know that guns ARE part of the problem because people argue, confront, disagree and fight the world over...but in America, people die.

Yeah - I wonder that too - but not obsessively to the point where it prevents me having a view on anything else. Not to the point where is strangles any news, discussion, debate about the real current issues of the day.

I despair - when I talk with older people, everyone is obsessed/distracted with immigration/Brexit. Supposedly mature people with life experience and some knowledge of history, theoretically educated people, yet so easily blind sided/distracted from talking about the real issues. They just keep coming back to immigration which suits a govt that is quietly shafting them while they are looking the wrong way.

So try talking to some young adults instead, it's even scarier. They are either completely socially/politically inactive/ignorant (fair enough - they are busy enjoying their youth) - but the ones that have any active interest in current affairs are too busy debating which toilets the gender neutral should be using. Is that really more important than the £40,000.00+ (and 6% annual interest) that they will already be in debt before they even get their first job? Or that they will work till they drop and never get a pension? or that they will never get on the housing ladder?. I find it baffling.

Funny you mention the BBC - same as every other "news" outlet - they do a 1 hour show - it's 58 minutes on Brexit/Immigration!

Politicians must be laughing - seems can get away with anything while this is the only item on the agenda for discussion. Looking forward to the next two years of it I expect.

Typically tribalistic response. Brainwashed into thinking there are only two (extreme) ways of going about anything. If i am not in agreement with all the single-issue nutters on here - does that make me a Leftie?

I worked as a trade union negotiator for best part of 30 years Crippen (hence my forum name) - I owned the business relationship with some trade unionists for 20+ years and they still could not bring themselves to use my name at Formal meetings.

I have no time for the left or the right - both are completely impractical fixed ideologies. Better to deliver what is required for the situation than have a predetermined, predictable, fixed view on everything.

You question my age? - the people that have a left or right view on EVERY issue are the ones that have never grown up. Have a good look at whichever side you like in current issues - say Jacob Rees Mogg or Owen Jones - small minded children the pair of them. Imagine listening to that kind of meaningless, predictable, intransigent drone for 30 years - you would realise anyone with a fixed left/right view on every topic is full of sh!t.

Absolute nonsense. Double the number of police officers and it wouldn't make any difference to what's going on in London.
But that aside to just dismiss the mass immigration we've suffered is, at best, naïve. That and that alone is the reason for the increased violence.

The government is laughing at you - because only 2 minutes remain to hold them to account for:

Our roads resembling those of a 3rd world country
Classrooms with 30+ pupils (6 of whom have special needs) because all the special needs schools are being closed (pretend your policy is diversity and inclusion rather than austerity).
Bins collected once per month
Health service that's so under resourced it needs you to "come back when you are felling better"
Street-lighting that goes off when it gets dark
Police numbers decimated
No parents at home as both now need to work to afford just the basics (claim this is about feminism/equality).
Also allows you to boast that there are more people in work than ever before. It's true, because nobody can afford to be a parent anymore.
No real jobs for our young people
etc, etc, etc.

Sorry if that's too many words for the slogan chanters. It's probably better if we all get back to "discussing" immigration and Brexit ad infinitum and allow the govt of the day to get on (unchallenged) with decimating all of the above. Fiddle Rome Burns.

Take your blinkers off for 60 seconds - read my 20:03 post again, maybe read past the part you have copied and pasted. Then come back with your preconceived take on my political stance - that you can read anything I have written on this thread and call me a "leftie" - kind of illustrates my point.I want a police force, properly funded schools, roads I can drive on, street-lighting at night and my bins collected more than once a month. You therefore think I'm a leftie!? -

WD - Some captain of industry will be along in a minute to explain that it's ok for Google, Amazon, Starbucks, etc to "avoid" all of their obligations to society - because of all the "new" jobs they have created and that all of those employees pay tax.

But you have to work a lot of hours at £7.38 per hour to reach the tax threshold.

Agreed too many big boys avoid tax. I'd also like to see Govt do better at not wasting zillions on everything they touch!

The Garden Bridge for example!! Forking out millions on a project that never happened Crazy

The Garden Bridge Trust, which managed the project since November 2015, was accused of “squandering public money” on the ill-fated venture, after Transport for London admitted that the project racked up costs of £53m. Taxpayers will foot a £43m bill after the bulk of the money was underwritten by TfL and the Department for Transport.

Documents released today revealed that the Trust spent £400,000 on a gala dinner and £160,000 on its website.

Absolutely again!

Stop wasting public money before spending more of it!
