ok, i will have a go at this but i am not sure how correct i am. When we gamble we use the back of the brain. This is the part that makes us like gambling and give us excitement.Believe it or not a gambler gets as much excitement out of anticipating if he is going to win or lose as he does winning or losing. But this is the important part of my post."We should be using the front part of our brain if we want to win "The front part is the part that tells us to" be disciplined, look for value,be careful,be 100% sure and so on "So the next time you are about to place a bet make sure you are comfortable with both parts of the brain"in other words make sure you are not breaking any of your own self imposed rules and you are happy placing the bet with the knowledge and the anticipation that it going to win" So no impulse bets or no casual bets or bets just for an interest in the event.keep your discipline and remember discipline comes from the front part of the brain.Think before you click.brass
I have been using the wrong part today - had four dead certs and made minimal money instead of scooping the lot!!! It is called fiddling around in play and lacking any discipline - ie pick some good bets and leave them alone
hope this helps

if i knew about grammar i would write a book, and worry about spell checker,i went to school with a jotter and a pencil in my school bag ,and i sacrificed a lot so that the generation of today could get the best of schooling, however even though i left school at 14 yoa to work in a bookie office i still managed to become a millionaire .So not bad for an ould guy who is near 70 yoa and still going strong. So grammar is not a specialist subject of mine.

The maths are easy.100 quid roll up on a 1/10 every week for one year will net 8 grand. Now anyone can pick a 1/10 winner once a week .and yet people will not use the front part of their brain and do it.

Credit: Logan Faerber When Shirley was in her mid-20s she and some friends road-tripped to Las Vegas on a lark. That was the first time she gambled. Around a decade later, while working as an attorney on the East Coast, she would occasionally sojourn in Atlantic City. By her late 40s, however, she was skipping work four times a week to visit newly opened casinos in Connecticut. She played blackjack almost exclusively, often risking thousands of dollars each round—then scrounging under her car seat for 35 cents to pay the toll on the way home. Ultimately, Shirley bet every dime she earned and maxed out multiple credit cards. “I wanted to gamble all the time,” she says. “I loved it—I loved that high I felt.” In 2001 the law intervened. Shirley was convicted of stealing a great deal of money from her clients and spent two years in prison. Along the way she started attending Gamblers Anonymous meetings, seeing a therapist and remaking her life. “I realized I had become addicted,” she says. “It took me a long time to say I was an addict, but I was, just like any other.” Ten years ago the idea that someone could become addicted to a habit like gambling the way a person gets hooked on a drug was controversial. Back then, Shirley's counselors never told her she was an addict; she decided that for herself. Now researchers agree that in some cases gambling is a true addiction.
In the past, the psychiatric community generally regarded pathological gambling as more of a compulsion than an addiction—a behavior primarily motivated by the need to relieve anxiety rather than a craving for intense pleasure. In the 1980s, while updating the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM), the American Psychiatric Association (APA) officially classified pathological gambling as an impulse-control disorder—a fuzzy label for a group of somewhat related illnesses that, at the time, included kleptomania, pyromania and trichotillomania (hairpulling). In what has come to be regarded as a landmark decision, the association moved pathological gambling to the addictions chapter in the manual's latest edition, the DSM-5, published this past May. The decision, which followed 15 years of deliberation, reflects a new understanding of the biology underlying addiction and has already changed the way psychiatrists help people who cannot stop gambling. More effective treatment is increasingly necessary because gambling is more acceptable and accessible than ever before. Four in five Americans say they have gambled at least once in their lives. With the exception of Hawaii and Utah, every state in the country offers some form of legalized gambling. And today you do not even need to leave your house to gamble—all you need is an Internet connection or a phone. Various surveys have determined that around two million people in the U.S. are addicted to gambling, and for as many as 20 million citizens the habit seriously interferes with work and social life. Two of a Kind The APA based its decision on numerous recent studies in psychology, neuroscience and genetics demonstrating that gambling and drug addiction are far more similar than previously realized. Research in the past two decades has dramatically improved neuroscientists' working model of how the brain changes as an addiction develops. In the middle of our cranium, a series of circuits known as the reward system links various scattered brain regions involved in memory, movement, pleasure and motivation. When we engage in an activity that keeps us alive or helps us pass on our genes, neurons in the reward system squirt out a chemical messenger called dopamine, giving us a little wave of satisfaction and encouraging us to make a habit of enjoying hearty meals and romps in the sack. When stimulated by amphetamine, cocaine or other addictive drugs, the reward system disperses up to 10 times more dopamine than usual. Continuous use of such drugs robs them of their power to induce euphoria. Addictive substances keep the brain so awash in dopamine that it eventually adapts by producing less of the molecule and becoming less responsive to its effects. As a consequence, addicts build up a tolerance to a drug, needing larger and larger amounts to get high. In severe addiction, people also go through withdrawal—they feel physically ill, cannot sleep and shake uncontrollably—if their brain is deprived of a dopamine-stimulating substance for too long. At the same time, neural pathways connecting the reward circuit to the prefrontal cortex weaken. Resting just above and behind the eyes, the prefrontal cortex helps people tame impulses. In other words, the more an addict uses a drug, the harder it becomes to stop.

Fair enough. Usually I would think picking up on grammar is being arsey but when you click on something that mentions the brain and then you read something that you ends up making you think "i'm not sure what he is trying to say" then you feel disappointed.
I'm only picking up on your grammar because it might be something that I was interested to read but don't feel I can because I'm not really clear what you are saying.

Yes this is all Fine ,until Something happens to the Outcome, that the Front of the brain finds incomprehensible ...
WE then revert to the rear of the Brain

Of course we used to have quite good debates about tactics etc - gambling - but most people have disappeared or don't bother now. Remember the 4 - 600 posts per footy game etc etc.

So the idea is to "TRAIN the BRAIN"In this case we have train both parts of the brain so that they work in harmony. SO A good example of this is CITY V STOKE.the back of the brain is telling you that CITY can not lose, and the front part is telling you to be careful and that CITY has to lose at sometime. So you think about it using the front part of the brain and the front part will tell you if the back part is correct or not. You will get a feeling of contentment if both parts are in agreement so this will give you the go ahead to back CITY. if you feel unsure about your selection it means both parts of the brain are are in disagreement.meaning dont have a bet. In other words your feeling about the bet you are about to place will tell you if both parts of the brain are in harmony and if you are on the way to your first million.

You see the back of the brain does not care if you win or lose, all it wants is a buzz or excitement . Now the front part is saying "if you are going to gamble, why not make some money for yourself " So if a guy can get both parts working in harmony ,he can feed his gambling habit(back part of brain)and make a few quid along the way and keep happy(front part) The front part will never advise you wrong and has you interests at heart. the back part does not care it just wants the buzz of gambling. So its important that the front part is involved in the final decisions. 98% of people only use the back part of the brain when gambling ,so look at the big advantage you will have over the 98% of people if you can train the brain and get the front part working before you have a bet.

in my case tonight the back part of my brain is saying"have a bet brass, come on brass give me the buzz i need" meanwhile the front part is saying"this is a difficult game to call the winner, just have a small bet to make small profit" So i guess laying a correct score for small stakes will keep both parts happy,or perhaps i might have a small bet on a goal to be scored. even if it ends 0-0 ,i will not be annoyed because i am going small stakes and can recoup losses if needs be,but the most important thing is that both parts of the brain will be content with the final decision.

It's the risk taking hunters brain that drives gambling. Take risks and you might be eating mammoth steaks for a week. As opposed to the farmer brain that knows if you work all day, you will have an extra 5 loaves of bread in six months time.

No luck, you may as well give up. If only I knew when I started I would endure way below average luck for years on end.

if you have 10 grand and you decide to put it on man city at 1/10 to win the back of the brain will say"great idea , a handy grand winnings and a real buzz waiting for the result. the front part is like a mother in law, it will say"are you fecking mad in the head putting 10 thousand pound on a football team? So the idea is to follow the mother in law part of the brain.

I have excellent discipline. My gambling bank is £500 a year - Jan 1st to Dec 31st - and I've stuck rigidly to it for years. Takes a lot of stress out of gambling, and much of the excitement too some would argue!

You have the secret Torquemada, and believe it or not it only takes 27 days to form a habit,so if a guy takes the information on this thread on board tonight in 27 days time he will have his gambling habits running like clockwork with no stress and will react to winners and losers in the same way. And he will then realise that gambling is great fun and profits can be made automatically.

Brassneck. I've found the secret of good gambling habits in terms of betting well within my means and not going on tilt, but I definitely haven't found the secret of success yet mate - I end up on the losing side nearly every year! Last year I lost about £300 and the year before that the whole five hundred was gone by October. I can only remember one winning year to be honest - about £400 up - and that was down to a lucky 3-3 correct score gamble which returned £800 for a tenner bet.
I have a gambling bank account which I reload back up to £500 every January. I bet on several sites, but if I flatten the account then that's it until next calendar year. I find this system allows me to enjoy a flutter without getting too stressed about it.

i am trying to analyse the psychology of the brain while gambling. for example if a guy has 2 quid and decides to turn it into 4 quid the brain will say go ahead and the best of luck to you. but if the same guy has 20 grand and decided to turn it into 40 grand the brain will come out with a lot of different thoughts. And the brain will release a batch of fear of losing the 20 grand. Now the maths to turn 2 into 4 are the same as turning 20K into 40K.the selections are the same ,in fact the whole operation is identical. But the brain will send an alarm signal for the challenge of turning the 20 grand into 40 grand where as the 2 quid into 4 quid does not bother it. Now these are only thought patterns that we have learned from someone else during the course of our lives. So there is a lot to be said for my idea of training the brain,or understanding the brain ,and more importantly why most gamblers shoot themselves in the foot when gambling. if a guy can understand his thought pattern and control it before he places his bet surely he has a far better chance of success. and think before you click can go a long way to help any gambler improve his gambling and turn losses into winnings.

which give me the idea that every gambler (repeat EVERY GAMBLER) should have what we call a maximum bet limit.(example=i will not put more that 50 quid on a selection) The idea being that the gambler decides here and now that he will never put more that 50 quid on a selection regardless of his state of play either winning or losing. Now if he makes this decision and forms a habit the brain(front and back)will send the alarm signal for a bet placed over 50 quid. this habit will form within 27 days ,and then the gambler will cure his impulse of chasing which in theory is a word to cover shooting himself in the foot. And" hey presto "the guy has cured himself of chasing . I only use 50 quid limit as an example ,you can set your own limit.but you must stick to your limit if you really want to be a winning gambler. remember if you look after your losses your winners will look after themselves.
