I was watching american pie 2 and switched over for 20 seconds to see what you were on about - just loads of remoaners waving flags.
American Pie 2 is less cringe making, and it's entire purpose is to make you cringe!

The Last Night of the Proms is a time for great music, not refighting the EU referendum

There was some comedienne on BBC a couple nights ago, Josie someone? I thought "I'll watch until she brings up ****ing Trump or Brexit in an unfunny way". Brexit was brought up first, I think I lasted 3 minutes, and switched off.

so you are commenting on a thread about the proms making comments about a show you are not actually watching
it's a middle/upper class love fest, but you know what? this music has been around centuries and it's actually really rather good.

It kind of peaked with Bach imho. That Bitter Suite Symphony by that composer "The Verve" had drums in it and wasn't even in Italian!
What ever happened to that composer and his modern classical syncopated beat band I wonder, absolutely huge, then disappeared almost as soon as they'd arrived.

The Beeb juniors probably handing them out on the door like 4/6 cards at a cricket one Dayer.
Is it like an Asian crowd, with spectators holding up bits of cardboard with BOOM BOOM JUNKER and NOUS SOMMES DESIRING LE FREEDOM DE MOVEMENT scribbled on them?

it is yet another example of spending money on middle class likes. imo it is a real shame the working class arent turned on to this type of music.
the flag counts really dont matter, although i will admit i may have undercounted the number of eu flags, but so fecking what?
there's a reason classical music has been around centuries, it's because it's the boll0cks. defo on my bucket list to attend such an event even if i have to put up with lots of eu flags.
pmsl, you dont approve of their 'styles'.it is yet another example of spending money on middle class likes. imo it is a real shame the working class arent turned on to this type of music.the flag counts really dont matter, although i will admit i may

It does actually bring in money from foreign sales. When I was working out in W Germany in 81/2, it was broadcast live on Saturday night on the main channel. I had a look at the E German station, just in case, but, oddly enough, they weren't showing it on that side of the Wall.

it's only in the last few years that i have really appreciated its greatness screaming. like i said, i wish the working class could realise how good it is. my music is modern on the whole but this stuff has been around centuries and is still popular so there must be something about it. the atmosphere at the rah looks great, on the last day hyde park is full and so are many parks around the country.
there was a pro eu march today, no doubt planned to be at the same time and more than a few eu flags have turned up at the proms but so what? it's still a feel good bit of fun.

No. A small country town called Uelzen, 10 km from the border - probably the weirdest, eeriest place you'll ever see in your life - the road on the western side just petered out into a track in the countryside, you walked through the gap in a hazel hedge, and suddenly you were confronted by rows of barbed wire, tank traps and watchtowers, extending into the distance to the left and right.
The moment you appeared, one of the two guards in the watchtower would turn his binoculars on you, while the other unslung his rifle. And neither took his eyes off you until you left. The guards were always changed every day, to ensure they didn't know each other, so neither dared stop observing you for fear the other would report him. In the distance you could see the buildings of the collective farm, a real symbol of misery. Cold days were the worst, because that meant an easterly wind and the foul smell of lignite, which communist power stations used to burn, on account of environmental regulations being of no concern in a socialist paradise.
The two funniest things about the E German TV were firstly the news broadcasts, where they would show the same pictures as the W German bulletins, but with a different story. So, in 1982, W German TV showed pictures of tanks trundling along a dusty track in Africa, and announced that these were S African forces withdrawing from Namibia; and five minutes later a truly gorgeous blonde on the E German channel used the same footage to describe the S Africans invading Namibia.
The other funny thing was their crime drama series, called Der Staatsanwalt (The State Prosecutor). The Staatsanwalt's big problem, from a dramatic point of view, was that crime didn't officially exist under democratic socialism, so the poor bloke used to spend 60 minutes every Saturday night investigating domestic disputes and minor drunkenness.
