I have got the cash Dr Crippen, but the car is 33k and I can't imagine driving back to the dealer in 18 months and them offering me 27.5k for it with 20k on the clock.

Be sure to add GAP insurance to your calculations. An absolute MUST with PCH. If the car is written off, you'll be liable for the cost of the vehicle PLUS paying off the remaining finance. Ensure your GAP covers both in the vent of a total loss. Insurance companies won't replace with a new car if you're not the owner.

A cursory glance on MSE is saying I don't need it if the car is less than one year old and I have fully comprehensive insurance.Although I appreciate I'd lose the remaining chunk of the hire fee.

Difference between PCP and PCH, GOT. PCH you're not the owner of the car, so the insurance company won't replace with a new one. At least I couldn't find one that offered it. I'm on a PCH and I'm not even the registered keeper and don't have the V5. It was approx 100 from memory and no way worth the risk of not having it in my opinion.

Thanks for the advice mate.Much appreciated. I did get a quote for fully comprehensive insurance and when asked for ownership details there was a leasing company option which I ticked, interesting that you're not the registered keeper, I'll be in a similar position.

No worries GOT. I doubt you'll find an insurance company that will replace with new, but verify to be sure. Another minor consideration is you will pay an extra admin fee for parking tickets, speeding fines etc as the registered keeper will receive them, and then need to forward on to you.

I believe that there are some suppliers who will allow you to be the registered keeper in a PCH, but most not. Mine is an Audi, and Audi finance is the keeper. It does seem quite odd, but presumably it's an additional security measure. The deal is effectively a hire car, but for two years rather than two days!
