The application for a rabbit battery farm in Gnosall has been refused. Not sure that it was on compassionate grounds but great news.

28 OCT 2016 — We are ecstatic to share this news with you... The application has been REFUSED!

Thank you all so much, everyone who sent in their objections, signed the petition, contacted the council and POE, spread the word, and spoke out for the rabbits! They may be silent, but we have been loud and hard to ignore, and we have won.

We cannot get too complacent as there is always the possibility that it will be reapplied for, but be sure we are going to keep watch and keep you all updated via this page.

Once again, thank you to you all. Jump for joy!

They'll either address the concerns and re-apply, or simply build one somewhere else.

Grounds for refusal included lack of detail to demonstrate the farm would not cause soil, air, noise or water pollution or disease and insufficient information about access to the site.

The notice of refusal issued by the council said: "It has not been demonstrated that the proposed storage/staff facilities building is essential for the agricultural operation proposed or that there is sufficient land and appropriate buildings essential for an agricultural business of this nature to viably operate.

"It is therefore unclear whether the proposals would support rural sustainability and be sustainable development."

Councillor Smith said he agreed with the officers' decision.

"The amount of security on site would be huge and I had concerns about highways myself," he added. "Environmental Health officers had concerns about there was no proper control of effluence and a danger of disease spreading."

Yes Dr, the inevitable is only delayed, you're right. So many evil bastards in this world!

Grounds for refusal seem to miss out the farmed rabbit can't

Run,hop, stretch out, stand on their hind legs or even turn around.

Shame on you SBC.

Thats quite a turnabout in 15 minutes kenny. Sadly if there's a buck or some doe to be made then morality goes quickly out of the window. Shameful. Why can't one councillor stand up and say " not on my watch, it's cruel and unnecessary".

I don't think i've ever eaten rabbit, not knowingly at least, but one of our cats catches a rabbit probably every other day and he has the interesting habit of eating the rabbit's head straight away and then eating the rest hours later.

Shocked

I asumed it might have some other reason for refusing the application, pants. Silly me.

Shirley being used for food is a rabbit's raison d'etre anyway?

Not a fan of the rabbit in general, he's a very poor sport. Just heads for the nearest cover, in a straight line. Your hare will have a little chase, go in a few different directions, run along a fence to try and tempt the dog, I've even seen them run under a stationary combine to try and get the dog to follow them under.

That said, they do make rather nice mufflers, and hats.
