Re Gus Hansen, several interesting videos on YouTube about him, excellent live player but completely crushed online, very unusual for a player in his class to lose so heavily. Not all players are as good both ways, but for one of the best live players to be so bad online doesn't make a lot of sense.....

The books that gave me the most profit are 'Low Limit Holdem' by Lee Jones (strictly for beginners), Harrington on Hold'em (best imo) and Play Poker Like The Pro's by Phil Hellmuth. I've chosen the latter because he is so much up his own butt that he lays it on the line... and makes sense too.
I haven't read them all but using these 3 books and moulding some of their plays into my own style I turned a £6k deficit into a £10k profit in 6 months. I'm now in profit both online and live although I'm far from the big boys league. I'm told (although not read) that Mike Caro should not be ignored either.

You played it perfectly that is all that matters (bad beats happen) to be a profitable player you need the mental stamina to just continue to play optimally as normal & not let the bad beats affect your mindset / your game .
Books I actually never read many 'Stuey' is a great read 'Devilfish' too but won't teach you anything , more life stories , as KOD says watching Twitch etc. you'll probably learn more nowadays .
Cash is very difficult to profit nowadays xmoneyxYou played it perfectly that is all that matters (bad beats happen) to be a profitable player you need the mental stamina to just continue to play optimally as normal & not let the bad beats affect you
There is still plenty of money in the game but poker sites are doing their damnest to make it harder. Higher rake, less promotions, Spin and Go's, more turbo's, training sites, third party software, Twitch and poker books all make the game harder. Things it took me years to work out can now be learned in a 20 minute Youtube video. In fairness all of the above have also improved my game.
You should be playing for $2 pots if your wanting to learn, not £300. There are many sharks at every level and players will chase you if you make mistakes. You win at poker not by being the best but by making less mistakes. Chase bad players, table select and play in games that have added money and overlays.
KoD is correct, use tracking software but use it to find your own faults. Get someone to look over your stats after you've saved 1,000 hands or so. Best thing for me was getting an MTT analysed by a pro, he showed me spots I could improve and corrected my bet sizing. I won the MTT but there was still room for improvement.
I'm currently reading https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01M9BUQZZ/ref=oh_aui_d_detailpage_o01_?... if you crave action then Short Stack Hyper Turbo's may well be your game and the book is worth a punt for 99p imo. Table select though, watch the lobby to find and tag the regs and don't join a game full of them.
Steer clear of Pokerstars, the site is full of ABC regs and sharks, you won't profit without a HUD or careful table selecting. Despite the poker forum being dead there is plenty of money on Betfair Poker, myself and KoD will testify.

a reg is a regular that plays many tables. They are varied in ability, some are really good, some are terrible but most play it ABC, ie bet when they have it and fold when they don't. They are exploitable as is every style but are difficult to play against. When you face a table full of regs as in Pokerstars then it's highly unlikely you'll beat the rake.

If your prepared to spend £300 on a pot then spend $100 on tracking software like Holdem Manager or Poker Tracker. Make sure your saving hand histories and when you have over 1,000 hands then stats become more relevant. HUD is very useful but only good if you understand the numbers.
Watch players like Pokerstaples on Twitch for MTT play.
Finally you maybe don't appreciate position (being the dealer button) but it honestly is the most important seat.
