Ok so it will be a matter of opinion but any input is helpful.
Lad at work collects all the special coins like the peter rabbit 50p and olympic coins.
He only keeps very good condition ones.
He says they will be worth something in years to come.
Surely the amount made will make them face value only items??

Report Money Tree cost me thousands!! • July 1, 2016 11:55 AM BST
Cheers.
I told him to use them to buy things lol
Got over £1200 worth sat in collection.
Report Money Tree cost me thousands!! • July 1, 2016 11:56 AM BST
A few like the olympic handover ones seem to sell for more than face so maybe ebay for him.
Report Facts • July 1, 2016 12:00 PM BST
All these ' collectables ' nowadays , be it , coins, stamps, plates, commemorating porcelain etc etc .....are all absolutely worthless. They will never become valuable as thousands and thousands are produced.
Report paddletoe • July 1, 2016 12:20 PM BST
If he likes looking at them and it makes  him happy tell him to keep a small collection.

Its a lot easier to buy a George best commemorative £5 ulster bank note for £15 than it is to sell one for the same amount.

Yes true he has a passion for it.
Gets us all to check our change when we have purchased lunch.

no harm in taking coins out of circulation
... there are still a few you can profit on

£2 coins seem to attract bids on ebay as do
olympic 50p coins

and the better the condition the more likely
somebody will pay over face value for it

but paying £10 for a 50p coin off royal mint
is unlikely to show a profit in his lifetime

£1 coins will be replaced soon, so the round ones will be taken out
of circulation, theres a good chance that there will be a small bubble
on ebay with folk looking for the rarer ones to complete collections

not a get rich quick, but a chance to make a few pounds

Yes Donny I've told him to try cash in on a few he can then buy other coins he likes.
He has a few silver ones like the 92 93 eec coin which he is proud of.
Nice young lad works hard.
All the ladies bring him their coins in too.
Report Money Tree cost me thousands!! • July 1, 2016 12:47 PM BST
Just looked on ebay.
There are done cretins about.
Trying to sell a circulated coin for £500.
What a waste of time and effort.

There we have it.....his reason he does it.....he is using his hobby to get more contact with the birds.

Chances of finding a valuable coin in change is about million to 1.

*...the reason he does it
Report Money Tree cost me thousands!! • July 1, 2016 12:58 PM BST
Lol leopard most are over 50 I'm not sure he is trying his luck lol.

banknotes might be a better chance of making cash than
coins when you get them new out of the cash point

some of the numbers drive the market, get one with all
different numbers its quite rare AB 12 345678 etc and
if you get a radar number they are worth a bit more,
(a number that reads the same backwards and forwards)
AB 12 344321

theres a website ..british banknotes run by pam west
that has up to date stuff on what might make money

http://www.britishnotes.co.uk/

i wouldnt buy at her prices though !!!

the scottish banks all have departments that will sell
you new notes when they come out, the £100 notes are perhaps most
likely to increase in value. bank of england is producing plastic
notes so the low serial numbers will be worth a few bob.

i think they still keep AA01 000001 and 000002, so 000003 will
be about best you can do but often these are held back for auction

But they all love him and a coulple are under 30.
Sneaky sod.
Report Money Tree cost me thousands!! • July 1, 2016 1:00 PM BST
Donny I have an uncirculated old style £20 with the numbers all sequential.

For example eebb 33447733

Worth keeping?
Report Money Tree cost me thousands!! • July 1, 2016 1:01 PM BST
And I did as you said it came out of cashpoint so I kept it.
Report donny osmond • July 1, 2016 1:02 PM BST
i'd think its worth keeping, but its only worth something
if you sell it one day !
Report Money Tree cost me thousands!! • July 1, 2016 1:05 PM BST
Very true.
I might mail her see what see would Suggest / offer. Cheers Donny.
If it's not much I'll let lee have it might start him off on bank notes.

Why do people waste their time on ebay overpricing items.
Seem a fruitless greedy plan.
Report donny osmond • July 1, 2016 1:11 PM BST
same as the folk that price up everything at 1,01 on here

hoping for a mug or an error
Report bix • July 1, 2016 1:56 PM BST
an inebriated mug.
Report blackestnight • July 1, 2016 2:51 PM BST
The only modern coins worth anything are Kew gardens 50 pence pieces. Only 250,000 were struck. If you consider there are 55,000,000 individual £50 notes in circulation you can see why they are so rare.

I have sold a few on Ebay going up in value everytime from 38 quid to 55 quid. If your colleague has any of those then save them and cash the rest in.

The only other coin that is worth slightly more than its face value is the offside football 50p, but only 3-5 quid at most.
Report akabula • July 1, 2016 4:07 PM BST
Coins produced for collectors are a nonsense and always have a big markup.
Will very very rarely be worth what you paid for them when you factor in inflation.
Best collect old coins.
Report akabula • July 1, 2016 4:09 PM BST
Line 2 should read
Will very very rarely ever be worth what you paid for them when you factor in inflation.

Lad 'at work'????

Thought you were a full time pro on here Shocked
Report donny osmond • July 1, 2016 4:46 PM BST
there were 4 x £2 coins minted for 2002 commonwealth games, they differ
only on reverse and show the flags of the four home nations

a set of these may fetch £30-40

the northern irish version being the rarest with about 500,000 minted

they still turn up in change
Report donny osmond • July 1, 2016 4:54 PM BST
the rarest £1 coin is the 2011 scottish pound with edinburgh  on reverse

just under 1 million of these about and currently about £5 for a decent one
Report Money Tree cost me thousands!! • July 2, 2016 12:32 PM BST
He has kids of the commonwealth ones.
And raves about the 1992/1993 eec 50p
Report Money Tree cost me thousands!! • July 2, 2016 12:35 PM BST
