The Establishment, basically.

David Cameron's little black book of contacts
The BBC
Major corporations
The City

It's tough to go up against that lot and win

Cannot understand how anybody could vote remain. Just complete fools imo.

So if remain wins, Tallywagger has summed it up perfectly.

farage has had a shocker

sorry I know I am biased but I don't agree. At the start of the referendum GO/Leave.EU were virtually getting no coverage apart from the Daily Express, it was all VoteLeave and Gove & Johnson and Nigel didn't even make a tv appearance until April. During that time Remain was comfortably in front as they were pushing their doomsday economic scenarios, and Boris/Gove were making a mess of deflecting it. When Nigel became active and pushed immigration to the front remain got reeled in and overtaken in the polls, Boris Johnson himself then started citing immigration issues which he'd never mentioned before. Had the mp not been murdered last week remain would never have been able to use that poster against Brexit (a poster which incidentally was not chosen by Nigel himself) and this referendum would now be virtually won. Momentum breeds momentum, had Johnson/Gove been left to run this themselves we wouldn't have got as close as we did.

I can't work out why the Brexiters don't seem to be talking about the less-than-rosy future of the EU.  To me that's by far the best reason for leaving.  Maybe I've just missed it but why are they not hammering home the narrative about sinking ships and lifeboats ?
Report Burton-Brewers • June 21, 2016 1:12 PM BST
Ballistic the internal collapse of the EU is basically the same as Osbourne's prediction of a financial meltdown, it is just a collection of opinions with no actual fact it would happen.
Report GoBallistic • June 21, 2016 1:22 PM BST
So not a possibility / probabililty that should be taken into account when voting ?

What would happen if we stay but France decides to have a vote and they vote out ?
Report DIE LINKE • June 21, 2016 1:24 PM BST
Whoever was responsible for the £350M a week figure caused Brexit a lot of damage. Everyone knew Cameron and Osborne were going to throw all sorts of dodgy figures at Brexiters, so their figures had to be watertight, beyond reproach as it would have given them a big advantage by using factual figures as opposed to the government "forecasts". Instead they messed it up and wasted hours discussing semantics and calculations.

So much damage caused by saying "We send the EU £350M a week" instead of "We give the EU £248M a week".
Report Blackrock • June 21, 2016 1:25 PM BST
xmoneyx- main reason for leaving is for us to take control of our own affairs, and not be told what we can or can't do by EU.

On which note, it's interesting that no 'opinion' has been given on what the EU plan to do about the Greek deficit?

Of course, one has given up hoping for a coherent 'opinion' on the EU's policy re refugees / economic migrants / ISIS insurgents, bar Merkels 'Houseparty and hard luck women of Cologne' efforts

Presumably you mean debt?  I believe they don't have a deficit after debt interest is removed.  I think you would be better asking what the UK plans to do about its debt/deficit.

Of course, one has given up hoping for a coherent 'opinion' on the EU's policy re refugees / economic migrants / ISIS insurgents,

Please source the EU's policy on the above, in particular, "ISIS insurgents"?

Agree about the £350m per week. Just a complete untruth that was easy to shoot down and so make the quitters look like desperate liars.

Notable that they've all but given up the economic argument now and it's all about Nige's xenophobic fear mongering. Telling how weak their arguments always were. Then came the almost inevitable result of some crackpot being so stirred up about all the fear and hate he goes and slays someone. The quitters always needed the doubters to vote angry to win and it seems that anger's now been pricked by the realisation we're mirroring the US in the politics of hate and gun murders so maybe a clearer head, an acknowledgement that all these experts might just have a point and the grass may not be greener on our own.

Yep the Greek debt.

I was asking what the EU's policy was on, what everyone has handily conflagrated to the easily assimilated 'refugee' issue (which a human tragedy that should be addressed in afar more nuanced manner reference foreign policy towards Syria) rather than examine the exact, specific background and intentions of every person in the Calais Jungle / Lesbos / Lampedusa etc.

A quick poll on chit-chat shows leave well in the lead meanwhile back in the real world
remain wins hands down. You can be sure of this.
Report rogerthebutler • June 21, 2016 2:59 PM BST
Ah I see {remembers O' Level's and being told to 'Always Answer The Question'}

Europe does not have a policy towards refugees, other than a humanitarian, knee-jerk reactive one, which re-enforces our continents sense of liberal tolerance, whilst actually threatening that very value.

It cannot define a true refugee (fleeing a war) to an economic migrant, to an ISIS insurgent.

A Brexit vote would enable Britain to execute a fair and humanitarian policy of dealing with true refugees at source, engaging with these people to alleviate their suffering along the lines outlined, by among others Queen Rania of Jordan (a true country that is a true friend of Britain) and her amazing work at the Za'atari refugee camp.

This would mean we are dealing with refugees who are refugees, who have settled at their first safe place of residence and are prepared to engage in a process that values their lives and adherence to the rule of law - in sharp contrast to people of questionable backgrounds, with an exaggerated sense of entitlement, prepared to break the law in both dealing with people traffickers and then in endangering the lives and welfare of British lorry drivers.

We can't hear from the woman who sold all the council houses cos she's dead, but Sir Patrick Minford supported all her policies and he's a leading brexite.

re the gold I'm sure I read the essence of this story in a more mainstream publication:
