An air rifle is not an appropriate weapon for killing adult ducks.
Halal slaughter is synonymous with the usual methods of slaughter of large animals, as long as the animal is stunned first, which for the most part (according to the RSPCA and other sources) it is. I know you don't like the silly hat, the curved knife and the prayers, but that is all irrelevant to the animal once stunned.

originally all i was getting at was, it's surprising facts feels so strongly against a few ducks being shot in a village - but never speaks out against barbaric Halal slaughter

trilby - me too, but even with a .22, anything but close range is not good.
ron - you just don't get it do you? You always mention Halal and never mention Shechita. You always say its barbaric without drawing the obvious distinction between stunned and non-stunned. You admit "point taken" then off you go again......

Ron - as I have posted before, and your regular post several times, I am not in favour of slaughter WITHOUT pre-stunning. and no, pre-stunning is not a legal requirement.
To answer Akabula's question, no one thinks that "all" animals are stunned before "sticking" (throat slit) nor is this ever claimed by anyone. But, all the evidence is that for the vast majority of large animals this is the case. There are multiple sources for this, although most of the evidence relates to ceremonial/religious killing. No one ever seems to measure "normal" slaughterhouses, although of course pre stunning is the norm there.

Ron - "Best put facts thread about the village ducks back on track".
Good idea, but aren't you the one that thought that shooting the ducks with an inappropriate airgun was preferable to having them killed via a process that has as its main tenet, the avoidance of animal suffering.

This is from 2014 but it is a good summary imohttp://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/food-and-drink/what-is-halal-meat-the-big-questions-about-religious-slaughter-answered-9331519.html
Thanks - viewed the first one & you'd really like/hope that to be true.
It seems to sit on the fence a bit though,
Current law requires animals to be stunned before slaughter
However, exemptions are allowed that permit non-stun slaughter for religious purposes, i.e. Muslim and Jewish communities.
We acknowledge that religious beliefs and practices should be respected. However, all animals should be treated humanely at the time of killing and therefore be stunned prior to slaughter.

Ron - not sure the RSPCA (AND I am no particular fan of this organisation for unrelated reasons) are sitting on the fence. They are campaigning for 100% pre-stunning.

Just Checking, best just to rely on that other left wing organisation, the RSPCA then. If you are interested in the subject, there are loads of other sources that you might feel able to trust.

The RSPCA modelled their uniforms on the uniforms of the STAASI, that's well known, and place East German bugging devices in their dog and cat chips. Bl**dy commies the lot of them.

I would like to take their air rifle, stick it where the sun don't shine, and pull the trigger
I do not care what religion these scum had I find them disgusting killing innocent birdsI would like to take their air rifle, stick it where the sun don't shine, and pull the trigger
I support the RSPCA, but I question their judgement at times????
They are at their best trying to protect the nations pets from some of their owners...that is enough.
That is the RSPCA people love and know...I do support them in this.

Poor IAN Mohammed has gone awfully quiet since he was asked the awkward question as to whether the shooting of these birds bore comparison with the revolting practice of Halal slaughter.
Then again I would expect nothing less from IAN than his complete silence on Halal slaughter, given that it's the tradition of the Peace-Loving Community he pretends to love.
Of course he has an undisclosed number (believed to be ZERO) of Peace-Loving "Refugees" from Syria staying at his gaffe in the lovely quiet village in which he is domiciled. Allah help him if he isn't serving them free food and drink to the standards THEY expect.

Alan - I have no idea who Ian Mohammed is but, of course the shooting of these birds has some relevance to Halal "slaughter". They both involve the killing of animals
The first is a totally inappropriate method of unnecessarily killing wild animals. The second is a legal, but unacceptable to some, method of killing animals for food. Many arguments for and against this are presented on this thread.
Did you read this thread at all.

Alun - I know its late but I just took the time to read the whole thread. You hadn't read it at all when you posted at 23.01? Had you? Still the subject is worthy of debate so don't go away.

The debate is do we do what's best for the animals or do we bend over backwards to cater for barbaric beliefs from fairy tale religions from donkeys years ago.

It's disgusting stats, & we're supposed to be an animal loving country.
Well we are to a certain degree.
We're allowing animals to be killed in barbaric ways to suit a sick cult.

what we need is a day out to the slaughter house, all the BBC Luvvies can witness a poor defenseless animal having it's throat cut & more or less choking to death on it's own blood - yes all good fun, it's part of our great diverse culture
