New era, he plays all types well (unlike the farmer) and doesn't bore me shítless. Please don't wait until he's 33 before doing it ye cucumber sarnie eating twots..
Sounds reasonable doesn't it? One of the potential problems though is as soon as you give a batsman the captaincy he tends to have a dramatic loss of form. perhaps it's the pressure of the job. It's time they gave him the T20 captaincy for a start as Morgan isn't justifying his place with the bat. If that works out then he will be the natural successor of Cook when the time comes.

Joe Root a certainty to Captain England in 5 day format as soon as Cooky goes, and he's only got 2 years maximum.
Hard to argue against him being Captain in all forms at some point as there doesn't look to be too much suitable competition.

You'd think that was the case Foinavon but for as many that did lose a bit of form; there are just as many who didn't. Lloyd Border Waugh Smith Mathews et al..

I'm not a great believer in stats mucker, it's all about the person. I think Joe will be an extra fine captain, he's in the form of his life so i understand the worries of him losing it if made captain. He might well do a Goochie imho, and let's face it Cap'n Cook hasn't been great. And you never know, his form might actually improve if just a batsman..

Cook was all set to give up he captaincy after the summer's Ashes series and Root to take over. Can't be long now.
He might do a Goochie, then again he might not. Cook was all set to give up he captaincy after the summer's Ashes series and Root to take over. Can't be long now.
I think Cook got 5 centuries in his first five games as captain, perhaps 7 in first nine, something daft like that. Punter and graeme smith got shed loads of runs as skipper too. So has Steve Smith. So did Michael Clarke. In fact, I think plenty get a reasonably prolonged honeymoon period of scoring runs as skipper. When they do inevitably lose form at some point though, fk me do the knives come out big time. Cookie rode that storm (losing the odi captaincy admittedly, which was obv the right thing to do) and should remain as captain of the test team for the foreseeable imo.

no need to rush root into the test captaincy. the test team is in pretty good shape actually
if we win the 2 summer test series which should be a formality really we will hold the bilateral series trophy against all other 9 test nations
