saw him play against Wednesday at Hillsborough in early 60s when Burnley were a top team.
Traditional centre forward ... had a lovely head of hair ... more pop star than centre forward.
RIP

Saw him a lot of times, as a Bradford City fan who got taken to Turf Moor a good few times. What a great team they had then.
RIP indeed.
A good few of that side gone. The great Jimmy Mac still alive though.

My brother Talked to Jimmy Mac not that long ago...still living in Burnley area but he said that he was clearly suffering from some form of Dementia...

Match I saw against Wednesday ... Bobby Craig (Wednesday inside forward) hit a vicious shot from 12 yards, hit Blacklaw smack in the face and ball rebounded to the half way line. Blacklaw just shook his head and play continued! These days he'd be writhing around on the floor trying to get Craig sent off ... Mind you he wouldn't even be on the field these days with a name like Blacklaw.

Bronco, I'm not sure ... I think Wednesday bought him a bit later ...wasn't he part of the Peter Swann, Tony Kay set that ended up somewhere else - and it wasn't playing footie?
BTW Peter Swann is the only footballer who I've seen booed by his own fans ... one game Wednesday were all over the opposition and their defence hoofed the ball out for respite. It went to Swan who was standing on the half way line. Instead of hoofing it back into the opponents penalty area so that Wednesday could score, he started to juggle with the ball on his head, knees and feet! Boo, boo, boo.

lol, yes it was those 3 you mentioned, all excellent footballers. All alive still.
Bronco was a great goalscorer. Talk about stupidity, greed killed his career at 25.
You're right, it was '64 when he left us.

Remember staying with a school friend who lived in Padiham area, about 63/4 who took me to Turf Moor to watch Clarets v Rovers. I'd never been to a 'derby' match before, wow what an atmosphere. The ground was packed and we ended up almost on the touchline.

anyone remember how layne & co were guaranteed to make money through throwing matches given that fixed odds bets were minimum trebles,or did that come in as a result

Indeed - when you could meet them down the pub, they were only mildly psychopathic, were paid slightly more than normal money, and they didn't have delusions they were fashion icons. And they didn't wear poncey boots.

My own memories of Ray are from the brief spell he spent at Bury in 1965. Scored 17 in 19 games including 5 against Rotherham. He was sold to Coventry in very controversial circumstances over Christmas when there was no media coverage then. Years later Ray came back to Bury as commercial manager. My mate at the time was assistant at Radcliffe Boro and they were training on the pitch at Gigg Lane. Ray came on the pitch and was kicking in with the young Boro keeper. The lad later was telling my mate about 'this guy at Bury who sells tickets coming on and was firing them in at him from all angles and was unstoppable!! It was unbelievable, he said he was called Pointing or something? My mate just grinned and said yeah he used to do a bit!!

I cannot abide the fashion to have coloured boots. It is very annoying when you are watching a match on tv and get distracted by the 'glow' of the boots. I can't explain it, but it seems like a cartoon with just the boots playing

Cartoonish is the right word. Still, at least we will be able to recognize them when it's finally time for Mr Axe and Mrs Machete. Keep them sharp my sweetlings.
