The Nice doing Karelia Suite by Sibelius

Great piece!

Will give those a listen later.

Sibelius was a musical genius.

Quiz

The Karelia Suite was brilliant but for what 70s tv programme was it the theme music?

Weekend World - without googling

No......This Week.....on googling

This is the only live recording of Sibelius conducting his own music. It was certainly played at his funeral and I believe was the only piece of his work to be played.  He wrote the tune for the 25th anniversary of a sawmill.    It is my single favourite piece of Sibelius apart from the first half of his 7th Symphony (not that much wrong with the second half, mind!

Witham - The Nice's version of the Karelia Suite is awful, mind you I loved it in 1968 at the Marquee  American is better!

another great homage to Finland, which always stays in the memory.
