Is this remotely like how a Coroner does their job? or is it just a travelogue for the West country.

It's yet another drama that might have been devised to please the Diversity Department, following hot on the heels of "Cuffs" and "London Spy", both now showing on the Beeb.

Can you imagine this programme getting green-lighted if the Coroner character was a bright and clever man, working alongside a female detective who was a bit headstrong and immediately sprang to the wrong conclusions?

As daytime dramas on the bbc go, I prefer Father Brown although I often had the desire to say at the start of the programme, this week I have been mostly hearing confessions.

"The Coroner" is made by the same people who  '"Father Brown" "Land Girls" and "WPC56". all of which are excruciatingly and buttock-clenchingly PC dramas

Invariably, all of the supporting white male characters in those latter programmes tend to be corrupt, narrow-minded, lazy, racist and/or sexist. All of the 'foreign' characters meanwhile turn out to be absolute saints, victimised by the Racist British.

"Land Girls" was particularly hilarious, in which (e.g.) Italian POWs were absolute poets of men, utterly desirable to the swooning local women, whereas the British Civil Defence staff were a bit like the Stasi in Cold War era East Germany.

"WPC56" could have been written by the Diversity department.

In each of these series, despite them being set 50-80 years ago, the quiet English villages they were set in all happen to have an uncanny number of foreign, ethnic minority or homosexualist characters amongst the community. Funny that.

My Dad (80 next year) was talking about how people get into debt at Christmas the other day. He said he never got any toys from his own dad at Christmas, they lived in a tiny Norfolk village and the only toys he got were made by the German POWs who lived nearby.  He still has them in the garage which is odd because he barely keeps anything. He showed me them once and got a bit misty eyed.  Maybe I should write a drama for the beeb about it for next Christmas those nice German POWs who were only obeying orders.

I only saw that WPC drama once, it was sh!te.

Indeed Tommy. I think you could probably get a £100,000 advance 'development' fee on that outline alone.

To give you some idea of how absurdly PC the 'WPC56' programme was, on her very first day in the job the only person who was nice to the WPC was a cheery black bus conductor who wished her well. All the male officers at the station were corrupt, obnoxious, lazy, vulgar, sexist, racist pigs. These charmless sorts also quickly arrested a black man for a number of rapes on the flimsiest of evidence (he'd been seen somewhere within a 250 miles radius of the crime scene) before the "progressive" WPC did some routine detective work and effectively cleared him to the dismay of the male officers.

So when you aren't posting on here (which is every day, for most of the day) you are watching cr@p dramas you don't like?
Report alun2005 • November 24, 2015 5:19 PM GMT
No. I'm actually taking care of elderly Ma2005, to spare her from the nightmare scenario of a Pretendy Carer, probably from Somalia (or Syria if the delusional left-wing 'progressive' Open Borders cretins have their way).

Hope that helps.

Scrub that one Alun, I have a better one than that and again true. This is a real corker: My mum had a bullying father decorated In WW1, very opinionated, hated foreigners etc. My mum would accompany her older sisters to the YMCA, there they would dance the night away with the American GIs as she was only little she was consigned to a side room with other youngsters and the black GIs who weren't allowed in the dancehall either. These GIs would then share their sweets and tell stories to the youngsters. On the way home they would tell her to hide those sweets and if he found out, on no account tell father that you got them from black American soldiers.

The BBC will be banging on my door for that one!

LOL. Double your fee !

So alun2005 TommyBarnes stories would suggest that possibly the BBC are telling it as it was in these programmes and are not just pc after allDevilHappy

My mums story did occur in a large(ish) town - Ipswich, so I do see where Alun is coming from on the small backwaters being so diverse in these dramas.

I know but I don't think he would be happy unless only white right wing (bigoted) heterosexuals are shown in a good light and everyone else is the devil incarnate.

Another quality drama on later tonight called Capital. Have a look at the character list. I think I'll give it a miss.

I read the other week about the bbc cuts, but drama will be protected and we all know why.
