Got my third pack of test kit to check for Bowel Cancer (sent out every two years).

Must be a pretty costly exercise, but the trade off may be long term savings by catching it early.

Fantastic initiative by "The NHS" along with the travelling Mammography unit, which is often seen outside the local hospital,
and where people can just "drop in" when they are on hand.

Do they send the kits to everyone or do they take a scat-tered approach?

Facts didn't bother with the sticks, he just sent the underpants he was wearing when 25 "refugees" turned up at his door looking for somewhere to stay. Plain

I saw a mobile radiotherapy van taking patients outside Tescos the other day. Was impressed.

These tests look for traces of blood in the faeces.

So the absence of blood indicates that you might not have bowel cancer at the time of the tests. It doesn't clear you.
Because a single test doesn't prove much. It just alerts them of what might be.

And blood in the faeces is quite common for a variety of reasons.

So if blood is found in the faeces they will go to town and shove their endoscope up your bum looking for polyps and evidence of cancer.

They'd like to shove their camera up everybody by the way, this is just a way of isolating the most likely.

If the pack is only sent out every two years, you could easily die of it in between tests.

Although when the camera is in your innards, they do remove any polyps that might be growing there.
These form the early stages of the cancers.

A sobering thought.

I hope when they shove the same endoscope that they use up your behind, down your throat for other tests, that they give it a swill under the tap before they start.

If the hospital gave the patient a copy of the tape so that they can post it on youtube/social media the take up rate will soar imo.

Little polyps up your anus,
Little polyps up your ring,
They put blood stains in your faeces,
And sometimes they don't half sting.

Little polyps though are nasty
And can lead to the Big C,
So if you think you've got those polyps
Then just let your Doctor see.

Don't be a mug. Get it seen to.

Apparently, the lab technicians take home the used sticks, after they've been tested, and burn them ontheir barbecues to give their steaks an added, pungent aroma.

And I always thought they used them to make ice lollies

I've had 2 lots of kits over the last few years but probably stupidly I haven't returned them.Like bigmo it repulsed me and I couldn't be arsed sending them back. No pun intended.
