Is it just me or are all his show's just the same food with a different title on the show. Seems that way. Salad's pasta are the main stables.

He winds me up, with his over the top "I'm such a propah geezah lad, innit" act.

Any show I've seen has awful camera work with lots of in/out of focus deliberately sloppy ultra super close up shots of whatever slop he's making.

If I want sloppy super close up camera work on a cookery show, I want it of Nigella's oiled cleavage.

Best at what he does by a mile. While all the other tosspots try and teach the ordinary schmo hot to cook the perfect Turducken, he comes out with his 15 minute meals and the like. Quite a few of his tips have become staples in the Rhino household. Seems a top bloke too.

Oliver posts on chit chat......... who knew?
Report Dr Crippen • October 20, 2015 10:42 AM BST
The only reason Oliver is on telly is because he's good looking and the women fancy him.
If he grilled toast and spread marge on it every show they'd still watch him.
He's showman and businessman.
His success has got little to do with his cooking skills.

It's the same with those slovenly women who cook without wearing anything on their heads, with hair falling into the food they're spoiling.
That Lawson woman for one, would be good in any sphere on the telly. It's all about looks and personality.
Report Ramruma • October 20, 2015 12:04 PM BST
@Dr Crippen is right about looks and charisma, though Jamie Oliver is a 100 times better pot-rattler than Nigella.
Report Aunty Post • October 20, 2015 1:35 PM BST

Are you meaning "coeur de chevaux"?

Can't stand the Landan git. Would never have thought of good looks and charisma! Well ok, marginally more so than a cow pat, and
he does a great impression of Harry Enfield!

I'm not going to bang on again, about my own experience in his York restaurant.

He introduced his own sugar tax in his cafe
Like the guy already

The Fat Duck's £300 menu(plus 12.5% service charge, plus drinks, plus VAT) or cheese on toast with NigellaLoveLoveLove No contest.

"He introduced his own sugar tax in his cafe."

If they are so bad with all this sugar why does he even sell 'em ? ?

Good looking??

Some people I heard about went to one of Oliver's joints.
The waiter said the berk was on the premises and would they like to meet him?
Yeah they said - wheel him.

So Olivile went to their table and went through the usual bullshine routine, did you enjoy your meal and all that bollox.

When the bill come it was sky high with one item - Meet and greet Jamie Oliver = £200.

What!

Of course they didn't pay it.
Report dustybin • October 20, 2015 5:08 PM BST
It was sugary drinks that I saw.
We are told in the western world that it is choice that defines our culture.
So perhaps because the environment around us has degraded to such an extent that enterprise in all forms have become opportunistic, that there is seldom anything left if one was to choose only products without sugar?
He perhaps feels that to run his business people will come already exposed to those drinks and expect to be able to drink them, so not offering them would harm his business I expect.

I quite like the idea that people attempt to change the workings of pernicious enterprise personally, some might think he too is being opportunistic, but in my eyes he's not effecting me so Im ok with that.
Report TELL DEL • October 20, 2015 5:30 PM BST
This tax thing on sugary drinks will be ineffective, can't see it making any difference, although sure he means well.

Been to 2 of his restaurants (the new one in Exeter which opened this year, and Bristol), nice meal, nice atmosphere, but certainly a bit pricey, and if I was paying that price again there's other places I'd rather go in Bristol. And don't go if your starving because you don't get big portions.  Tried the one in Exeter because it was new, looked nice and was packed, but same comment as the one in Bristol.
Report Dr Crippen • October 20, 2015 6:47 PM BST
Everything that Olivile does is designed to attract attention to himself.

He couldn't care less if the sugar tax nonsense is successful or not.
He's got his name in the headlines again and that's all that matters to him

It's called cheap publicity and he's always promoting some campaign to get his name up front.
Report Ramruma • October 20, 2015 8:54 PM BST

That sounds a tad unlikely because it would have been in the papers by now if he really carried on like that. It has all the hallmarks of a "friend of a friend" story, where everyone knows it's true but no-one heard it from the horse's mouth. It's pretty unlikely he'd even be in one of his restaurants except on opening night.
Report blackbarn • October 20, 2015 9:26 PM BST
Ramruna - This story has gone around at least three (+ Oliver) top chefs.   Urban myth as you suggest.
Report anfeild • October 20, 2015 9:31 PM BST
Forget the urban myth. He doe's the same stuff only with different names. 30 min meals was nearly the same as 15 min meals. All his show's are basically a rehash of other show's. Fair play to him. Any campaign is only for his own good. As i said he has done great but he is a complete and utter chancer.
Report TELL DEL • October 20, 2015 9:56 PM BST
Like him or not, he has played his cards pretty well, he was only one of the chefs in the background on some River Cottage TV cookery programme..... got noticed....and somebody thought he would be a great different new image for a celebrity chef.... then played his cards remarkably well.  Not a big fan of his and agree he does like to attract attention to himself, but done great for a 'complete and utter chancer'
Report maleuk01. • October 20, 2015 10:50 PM BST
always seems a bit of a pr1ck to me.

he is a basic cook (not really a chef is he)all his "im a geezer stuff" is very tedious.

Not fit enough to peel Marco Pierre White's spuds. And he is a million times cooler than Oliver.

He is the king of salsa; all he ever seems to make.

With his limited culinary talent and a poor education he has done well for himself, but his preaching grates.

Speaking to Raymond Blanc he described him as 'a cook, not a chef.'

Seems on the money to me.

Sounds like Ramruma and Blackbard weren't charged as much as that when they paid to meet him.

Report TELL DEL • October 22, 2015 2:31 PM BST
Agree, complete chancer who got lucky.

And for Raymond Blanc to describe him as 'a cook, not a chef ' that must be a big insult to a Chef to call him a Cook !

But Jamie Oliver worked in the River Cafe for literally a couple of months at most. And, no, cooking in your parents' pub when you were 12 is not really what I would call real professional experience !
Report Mick Sturbs • October 22, 2015 2:49 PM BST
Can't stand the bloke .. somebody told him olive oil was good for you so he sloshed it on everything and cooked with it.Now he is on the superfood bandwagon and cutting down on sugar
Pinched most of his ideas from other chefs, oh and his company lost 12 million last year
Report Aunty Post • October 22, 2015 3:06 PM BST
Hard to see how they lost £12 million when they charge £11 for a burger and £3.85 for twelve chips!

Oh, and I think it was pushing £7 for five, lost on the plate "Pasta Pillows", and that was a main, not a starter!
