None of my mates bet to the extent I do. They do the odd football bet now and again but only for a few pound a time.

It seems pointless to talk to them about it, you can't tell them about your losses as they just don't understand. If you tell them youve won a substantial amount, they then wonder where it's gone if you've lost it a week later. They seem to think you just peanuts on when you win these substantial bets.

Of course it's socially acceptable for them to drink their money away (spending more than £100 on nights out) and buy computer games at £50 a pop and whatever but when you mention you've lost a £100 betting for example, they look at you like your a mentalist.

Cashed out on Fitzgerald today and gave up £300 in the process...mentioned it to my misses tonight over dinner and all she could say at least you won something.Rather she had called me a ****.

I'm a profitable low stakes poker player but trying to tell my mates about it is just smacking my head.

I tell them I win, the usual first question is "but how much did you lose?"

I get the Daleroxxu posts a lot: http://www.daleroxxu.co.uk/2009/11/10-questions-not-to-ask-me-about-poker.html

Fitzgerald?

There probably the worst people to talk to about betting (Women)

Should never mention stakes imo.  Prices is fine.

Very good Ovalman.

I used to play poker a lot more than I do now and made a smallish profit. The worst I got was when a mate watched me play for a short while and started criticising my play when he never even plays poker ffs!

Good stuff twizzle22, I could only think of Mick Fitzgerald Laugh

Harder than ever now to beat the r4ke.

Feedback is always good and someone shadowing you would make you want to play better imo.

The important thing is to keep records :)

tarfet soft games and chase those whales. Table selection is even more important than ever Akabula.

I'm not sure if you know but I've hit that Dirty Dozen twice on 2 different sites (one on Betfair) but I have noticed that the game changes when more regs like me play in it. Both times I won, I was the only reg in the game. Avoi the regs and chase those whales.

I stopped playing for a while Ovalman but back now.
My stats on PS show me up $7k+ but can't improve on that. Just finding it hard.
I definitely think you lose your rhythm when you take a break.

I've stopped for the last 2 months.

I lost 7 grand in the space of 3 days..all casino.

.....but at least i've stopped, rid the thought from my mind.

i'll come back from a different angle in time, i can't see me ever going down
the casino road again....but the prob for everyone is its always a way out...which they love

I've 11% ROI on Stars @ovalman $1349 Sharkscope tracked but confirmed £2k withrawals but I prefer it on I-Poker.

There are far more whales on I-Poker and those Dirty Dozen attracts them. Despite that I've had 20 straight losses with a 10% ROI. It can demoralise you even by making good decisions.

In the €5 Jackpots, 3 wins and a 2nd is the best I've achieved. It may seem impossible but someone wins from time to time.

Chase those whales and play players worse than you is the way to profit in poker. You can be the 10th best player in the World and lose to the other 9 if you play them.

I was doing okay on baldies site.
Had a win and 2 places out of 3 klups clash of the titans games.
Won lucky numbers froll tourney (I think thats what it was called) twice - paid £400 each time.
Didn't play much else. That was in about just over 2 months and I was up over £1200 but then couldn't win an argument.
Culminated with me losing on the bubble in a decent prized tourney with 66 on a 66K board to AK.
Was the final straw in a long list of bad beats.
I know it's random but I felt that some b4st4rd was sitting watching me play and saying how can we really pi55 him off. Laugh

Bankroll management is the simplest but the hardest thing to manage.

If you won that much why didn't you lift it out? Things get harder at higher stakes and players get better.

I'm in the Klups games (we probably know each other?) but the Klup hasn't run a game in 6 months?

The difference between winning & losing = booze

how can you have any game plan with booze involved?
Your always going a be at weak point how ever good you are at whatever sport.

Which these companies are exploiting, they know exactly who need the free £10 ect.

Bookies make money by offering unfair odds. I play poker by the same premise.

Betfair exchange is unique that you can take or discard those odds but it's by far the place where you should be placing your bets.

I can't handle bad beats which I know is a big weakness.
Does my head in and puts me off my normal game.
I was a member of the winning team in each of the 2 leagues that the klup ran on this site.
I also scored most points in both leagues. The klup games suited my style of play.
BTW is the klup still running ILPP?
I looked in but it seemed nowt had been posted for a while.

"Did you back it each way?"

In all my life I can only think of three people I've ever known who would never ask this most f7ckwitted of all questions, and one of them is my dog.

Only the inveterate gamblers aasbf. If I tell someone as I have in the past that I had a grand on one that fell at the last 10 lengths clear (Barton Bank in The King George) the gambler will bemoan the bad beat and empathise in my misfortune usually). The non gambler will turn white and ask about my mental state which messes with my head even more.

Not unless they are mates who are also in to sports betting. Not interested in telling a mate whom's only bets are on acca's that I've had  40/1 winner on the horses because they would just think you were lucky (or a bull****) and not understand . The fact that you had spent 4 hours looking at the race that morning and numerous other mornings to get this winner and then when you get a loser who comes 6th with a decent run at 40/1 they look at you like you are a mug because you've spent 4 hours this morning to do your conkers on another 40/1 shot.

Then they will tell you that they looked at the paper on the morning of the Champion Hurdle and they got the winner at 9/4 because it was tipped up on talksport and you won't give a **** because the 33/1 shot that you backed in December came swinging round on the bridle 3F out only to come 7th and you don't care because you are lucky enough to understand what it's all about and they aren't.

It's just not worth telling anybody anything, is it?!

I'm with you aasbff. I have good friends who don't know what I really do for a living, as I do some writing as well I tell them - and they believe - that I earn my living writing. Think they'd probably fall over if they knew that I routinely place bets on football or snooker matches that dwarf their monthly salary.

Very funny piece by the poker player - dealing with idiots like he describes is a good reason to operate the way I do I think.

Never wanted anyone to know what I was doing. I got away with it for three months at home before getting rumbled.

James, "The Wise One", was far from impressed until Gem (still with me here) knew how well I was doing.

Worst thing was that the person who introduced me to this madness, was a surveyor on my team, and he would come in to the open plan office with his own
"sub team", and talk at such volume as could be heard by everyone!

I got bored of working and went full time on here in 2009.

If I am asked what I do now, the answer is retired or, if I am feeling that way out, is "Risk Analyst"
