I help out at a school teaching gardening and last week we were getting the spuds up. I told them to put the green ones on one side as they were poisonous. We continued this week and one lad had remembered about the poisonous ones and asked if I wanted the red ones separated again.

Complicated subject but CB is more common amongst males (than females) and red/green CB is by a huge margin the commonest form. Got it myself and cant see holly berries except at a distance of 1 foot, and then it needs to be a good year! I used to be able to see telephone boxes mind.

Talking of potatoes, apparently courgettes can kill you! Those we normally have been bred to have less bad stuff but if they self seed or you get the none nice type for whatever reason, they can be really bad for you.
Someone in Germany died from eating the things recently.

Surprised someone died Just Checking but the general rule is if it's bitter and it's not supposed to be, then don't eat it. That goes for squash, cucumbers and courgettes. Courgettes are for wimps anyway.

I think the article I read said that others in the courgette family can suffer the same problem. But you're not really told that? I can't remember anyone saying these things could be lethal. If you stuck it in a curry, would you notice the difference?
It's a funny old world I was just thinking, as I drink my rhubarb leave tea.

I grow loads of winter squash every year and have never had a problem. I always buy fresh seed and never save my own as they rarely breed true and can be cross pollinated with courgette or cucumber from somewhere else. Perhaps the problem of toxicity might arise if the seed is from a flower which was cross pollinated with an ornamental squash. Cucumbers can sometimes be bitter but are fine if peeled, all the nasties are in the skin to deter anything that tries to eat them.

School chum got a job as a colour matcher in a tannery.
He was there 6 months before it was found he was CB!
Having my extension roof tiled in dark grey tiles. Got back to find them almost finishe with brown tiles.
This was ridiculous, as the boss knew he is colour blind, so you would have thought he would have the suppliers match my sample tile!
