I'd honestly pay upto £15 a pint for guaranteed no hangover beer.

If only there was that option.

My hangovers these days last 4 or 5 days even after a moderate drinking session.

It's a big part of my social scene but thinking of giving it up, just not worth it! Scared

After your session what do you do to limit the hangover?
Report Hamsterdam • July 20, 2015 9:47 PM BST
Water 1-2 hours before sleep.

One day hangover I can live with, part of it. But when it's dragging on for days it's horrible.
Report dunlaying • July 20, 2015 10:17 PM BST
If I was you I would get the water tested .

Bruce's Brewery had a few pubs in London.

May still be some about, their names all ended with '& Firkin.'

They served a real ale called Dog Bolter, which wasn't that  nice with your first ever sip, but got a lot better with the second. It was potent stuff.

Us dart players got used to it and remained undefeated at home all season.

And after a good session, nobody ever complained of a hangover the next day.

The house lager was called Hurlimans,  and it was red.

^^^ I think you get seriously limit your hangover with the right drink but the problem is when you going from bar to bar they all have different stuff on tap...usually cheap lager so that avenue is difficult.

Maybe I should changed to expensive vodka (triple distilled) with coke or something?
Report spellingandgrammarchecker • July 20, 2015 10:59 PM BST
Coke in vodka makes no difference once it's in your stomach. Only to the taste in your mouth.

A small Schweppes Bitter Lemon in the morning cured mine most times.

My brothers remedy was 2 eggs whisked in a glass with a teaspoon of cod liver oil.
I couldn't even watch him drinking it without feeling sick.

I'd avoid lager especially draft in pubs but something very much worth considering is that alcohol is treated as a poison by your body and some of its major effects include dehydration and low blood sugar. Drinking the water is a good idea afterwards but also eating something after drinking is also a good idea. Something slow release like a complex carb would be good. Porridge is cheap and good. I'd also take a combination of Paracetamol and Brufen which are a potent and complimentary analgesic and anti inflammatory. Give those a shot and it may help.
Report Stow_judge • July 21, 2015 10:17 AM BST
I think you have a serious problem if a moderate drinking session leaves you with a hangover lasting more than a few hours the next day. I think that you should be heading to the doctors.

It all depends upon how many you are actually drinking & body weight etc. How many units of alcohol correspond to a moderate session & how many a serious drink?
One pint = 2 units, 1 measure of spirits = 1 unit.
Report Stow_judge • July 21, 2015 10:18 AM BST
If you are concerned about the different beers on tap, can you not drink bottled beer?
Report Stow_judge • July 21, 2015 10:20 AM BST
You should try giving your body a break. Have a few days off alcohol each week and try not to drink too many days on the trot. Your body needs time to recover.

Might be an allergy, I had awful hangovers after drinking beer or wine, got tested and turns out I'm allergic to yeast
Moved on to spirits and no more hangovers ..miss the beer though
Report Dotchinite • July 21, 2015 12:02 PM BST
It does sound as though you are allergic to something. Even the worst hangovers ive had are gone by the afternoon of the  following day.

Yes get tested crazy having 4 day hangovers.
Report elise • July 21, 2015 12:45 PM BST
my uncle used to get 2 or 3 day hangovers, doctor told him he needed to curb his drinking, my grandad (his father) died of a blood clot on the brain, had terrible headaches and couldn't drink for fear of a hangover

my uncle didn't pay any attention, said he enjoyed a drink and despite the warnings carried on getting battered every weekend, 6 months later he was dead

got run over by a bus

I think it was Dean Martin, or Frank Sinatra, who was quoted as saying....

"I feel sorry for people who don't drink. When they wake up in the morning, that's as good as they're going to feel all day".
Report Aunty Post • July 21, 2015 2:51 PM BST
Yes get tested crazy having 4 day hangovers.

Not sure about that, as you are just going from one hangover to the next, if you haven't recovered fro the previous one!
Report Hamsterdam • July 21, 2015 9:19 PM BST
I'm not a big drinker at all (mainly because of the extended hangovers) 7 or 8 pints every other weekend. Less in winter, more in summer. 35 years young, 13 and a half stone. I'm guessing if you are mixing cheap draft beer you are taking in lots of different congeners.

On my next night out I may just try the vodka with same mixer all the way through to see how it goes. Will take it easily though last time I touched that stuff it got very messy! But that was in my early 20's when hangovers weren't an issue.
Report Hamsterdam • July 21, 2015 9:20 PM BST
And I am bad for not eating before I go out. I should reverse that. But still doesn't explain the extended hangovers.

I believe that blood sugar levels are a big contributing factor to severe hangovers.  If you love a drink then change your diet to cut out most complex sugars (it is not very hard to do).  Eat fresh food, make it a habit to drink lots of water when you are not on a night out and don't drink energy drinks (like Red Bull, etc).  If you do have a hangover drink unsweetened vegetable juices (tomato juice with tabasco sauce is good).
Report jamesdean • July 22, 2015 3:15 PM BST
Stick a vodka in the tomato juice with tobasco and it's even better!
Report Wesdag • July 22, 2015 6:00 PM BST
I'd recommend good sauna/steam session the next day and drink plenty of water whilst doing so.
Report SlippyBlue • July 22, 2015 6:23 PM BST
Agreed jamesdean, a large bloody mary sorts me right out if I'm struggling the next day.

I used to be same Hamsterdam. If I drank seven or eight pints every night then I could get up for work the next day and be alright. As I gradually cut down on drinking every day, a heavy session on a Friday night would leave me fooked until Tuesday sometimes. Sad

I don't drink at all any more, the only time I bother is when I'm on holiday and I know after having a drink on the first night that I'll be rough the next day and won't be able to get out of bed before 12pm. Roll on October...............
