Well its actually for a friend.
Anyway, they have four different accounts on the same laptop but they normally only use one of the. But yesterday they were using their laptop and it froze on a webpage which was not anything bad-just what you might call an adult webpage. The mouse wont even move to try and close this page.

The other accounts under the same laptop can be used. Just have to sign in under a different family username. They are working normal.

But any ideas how to get the webpage on the other account closed.

Task Manager

highlight the line you want, and click 'end task'
Report paddletoe • July 13, 2015 1:25 AM BST
If its not too much trouble and your still up spelling could you please explain that procedure more simply as I am not very advances in the workings of computers eventhough I use one many hours a day. If your not still up maybe you can give a reply tomorrow.
Report HonkyJoe • July 13, 2015 1:37 AM BST
Press the Ctrl, Alt and Delete buttons all at the same time. Then select 'Task Manager'. Then locate the browser program from the list and click on 'End Task'.

Of course, you could just turn the laptop off by holding down the power button for several seconds. It'll be gone by the time you boot back up...
Report paddletoe • July 13, 2015 1:41 AM BST
thank you joe. I will try that now. I cant actually take the power battery out of this particular laptop which is a Toshiba but even when I tried letting the battery run flat down and restarted it the same webpage was up.
Report paddletoe • July 13, 2015 1:44 AM BST
Just to check I wont lose any pictures which are saved but only seem to be saved under that same username account on the laptop. The pictures are family ones so I dare not lose them.

Can you please just confirm I wont lose any of these pictures. Thanks in advance.
Report HonkyJoe • July 13, 2015 1:49 AM BST
Well the pictures will be saved somewhere on the laptop, so no, they won't be lost just by switching the laptop off.

If you let the battery go flat, the laptop probably just went into suspend mode rather than turning itself off, so that would explain why the webpage was still up.  Switch it off properly, and the offending browser should be gone....

No it did not work.

First I tried to run the battery down which I did but when I turned computer on again it was the same.

Tried the ctr, alt, delete method and task manager came up. But the mouse was still stuck/not sure the mouse icon on screen was even visible. I could see the place on the bottom right corner which said end task but I had no way to click on it.
Report spellingandgrammarchecker • July 13, 2015 5:05 PM BST
Will it start up in 'safe mode'?
Report paddletoe • July 13, 2015 5:08 PM BST
not very good with the workings of computers spelling. The mouse is completely not working on the other account username. Not sure what you mean by safe mode?

BTW when you tried task manager it wouldn't free up the mouse you would have to tab down using the arrow keys (Up/down/sideways arrows) to hover above the ISP you want to remove.

Report paddletoe • July 13, 2015 5:37 PM BST
thanks for all your help everyone but it still wont work. There is no mouse icon coming up at all. I can get to the task manager page using the method suggested but I cant click on the end task icon on the bottom right corner as I have no mouse icon to click on it and the move up and down keys wont work at this stage to move onto it.

The only option is going to be to bring it to pc world where I got the computer from but I will have to end up going to one miles away from where I live the webpage I am stuck on is a little embarrassing.

Will the tab key (far left of keyboard, just above control/shift keys) not let you move the cursor to end task (then press enter)

You could try killing the process, then un-installing the software, re-booting, then re-installing the software

Try the process kill I suggested. You may not need to uninstall & re-install the software. Kill the process, restart the pc & that may be it sorted.
Failing that, can't you get a mate round to take a look? Another alternative, is to get a mate to login remotely with e.g. Team viewer
(remote access software)

Turn the computer off.

When you turn in back on, continually tap the F8 button until the normal screen opens up.

It should say 'Safe Mode' in each corner of the screen.

Try Task Manager again.

when I turn the computer off it comes back on as normal. Its just when I log into one particular account where everything is frozen on a particular webpage. That's why I can use this same computer to chat here. I just need to log and sign in under one of the other account usernames on the same computer.
So should I sign in under the frozen account and then keep pressing the f8 key. Tried pressing the f7 one previously which someone else suggested but nothing happened.

If as i suspect, this is a website for ladyboys in lingerie.

Not so sure i would be so confident in taking it to a shop in Belfast and asking a bloke for his opinion, no mate is worth that kind of risk.

When you start up your computer, at the bottom of the screen wil display a message for settings.

It will display a function key, they are found on the top row above the numbers.

Probably F4 OR F7 depending on the make.

it will say presS F4 OR 7.

It will be fast a second or so, so you wil probaly see it and miss it, reboot if this is the case.

It will take you to a menu with different options, select restore to an earlier point.

This will allow you to go back to a safe point before the lingerie.

A kind of Back to the future for computers.

Should YOUR FRIEND need any further help, message me, am always on when racing is on.

Blimey. Is this still going on??

Not sure why only the mouse is stuck.  Suppose it might be worth plugging in an external keyboard or mouse.

Assuming the keyboard works, it ought to be possible to use the keyboard to highlight the 'End Task' button - just by pressing the 'Tab' key until 'End Task' is highlighted.

Oh well. Probably Padd is treating himself to the best in Belfast lingerie by now....

Well I brought it to PC world today and got it sorted out. They put in an external mouse. The mouse icon then came on and the frozen page was able to be closed. However, when I came back home and tried to use that same account on the computer the mouse was nowhere to be seen. Its gone again. Good news is that the account opens on a blank page.

I don't know what all the giggling was about. As if its not a common problem when if like me you have 3 or different betting sites up and in between quiet periods you put up another site for a peruse.

Thank you all for the help though. Much appreciated.
