Thank you Capt_F.

GrinGrin but a little more really! (two months)

It's a bit daunting thinking that I'll never earn a wage again.

Have a good retirement, Charlie.

Really Cool
Report Charlie • July 11, 2015 5:55 PM BST
Thank you trillby. I'll try. Grin

Consider yourself fortunate Charlie for I wouldn't like to be starting out on my career in this day and age.

The good old days are gone and there's only trouble ahead.

Enjoy the good times while they last.
Report bix • July 11, 2015 6:31 PM BST
I retired a few years ago after a life of self employment. It took a lot of getting used to that someone (the govt.) would give you money (pension) without you having to do anything for it.
Report Charlie • July 11, 2015 7:28 PM BST
Still seems strange. Started work at 16. Had a couple of years off to look after daughter while her mom worked. It's all surreal: no work, no pressure, no money, just do what I want if I can afford it.
Report Charlie • July 11, 2015 7:31 PM BST
Should add three years not working when getting degree which was paid for.
Report Foinavon • July 11, 2015 7:37 PM BST
It takes a while to adjust Charlie.
What's gone is gone.
What you have to look forward to is a lifelong holiday. Brilliant!
Take things easy and enjoy.

I have to be honest the last thing I want is retirement.I like routine, something to get up for from Mon-Fri and I realise I will be slated for saying this.
Report Makybe_Diva • July 11, 2015 7:50 PM BST
That is perfectly understandable, MadVlad.

Shanelee.
I must admit admit that I was a fortunate in earning more than minimum wage but, as a soldier, programmer, lecturer and other things, not a fantastic wage. I should also add that most of my lifetime earnings/savings were spent on care costs for, sadly, deceased wife. Pension(s) have been spent on getting various houses for various people. I now have no pension to talk about.

You always come across as being a happy, decent, understanding person and money can't buy that. I really do wish you well. Grin
Report Shanelee1966 • July 11, 2015 8:14 PM BST
Bloke I know has a once in a life time opportunity to go it alone, he won`t take it. Just has a crappy job like me too.
Report Shanelee1966 • July 11, 2015 8:16 PM BST
You too Charlie. Many use retirement to find themselves, away from work and the other half.
Report Shanelee1966 • July 11, 2015 8:17 PM BST
Is the potash near Whitby trilby?
Report Charlie • July 11, 2015 8:18 PM BST
Well if you're talking about missed opportunities I used to be best mates with the founder members of Judas Priest. They wanted me to be the vocalist. I said no.

Ian Hill, Kenny Downing, original drummer was Johnny Ellis, we all lived on same estate, all went to same school, all drank in same pubs (normally the Bell on Walsall Road), and were all best mates. Somebody else but can't remember his name (apologies).

I took early retirement when 57 from a well paid job with a company car.
I had planned for it and have never regretted it one bit.
Sure you have less income but I don't find myself any worse off really.
Report spellingandgrammarchecker • July 12, 2015 12:47 AM BST
I was so sued to doing as I was told that I packed up work when I got a box of fireworks for my kids when I was 40.

It said on the first one - 'Light blue touchpaper and retire.'

So I did.
