The Friends of English Magic New series. At the beginning of the 19th century, the world no longer believes in magic - until the reclusive Mr Norrell stuns the people of York by making statues surrounding the city's cathedral speak and move. Meanwhile, the rich and charming Jonathan Strange, more interested in wine and women than reading dusty old books, discovers that he too has magical powers. As the duo's stories intertwine, they embark on a fantastic journey involving mystical creatures, the reanimation of the dead and war with Napoleon's French Empire. Fantasy based on Susanna Clarke's novel, starring Eddie Marsan and Bertie Carvel

yet another BBC drama series in which have the dialogue is barely decipherable...didnt really grab me unfortunately
Needed more pace....you have to suspend your dis-belief in magic.
Ray Donavons brother playing the lead, now there's a contrast.
Isn't he simply wonderful? One of our great character actors.
I've taped it but largely because Marsan's in it.
Will watch it this evening. I have only recorded it because Eddie Marsan is in it.
Will report back later.

From the trailers it seems Lenny Henry should be happy.
I'm 23 minutes in and it's not grabbing me at all so far
I've watched them all, and have been close to dying of boredom.
Watched 'Humans' on CH4+1, which is a lot better.

Been recording them and from reading this it seems it might be best to delete them
You won't see any close up magic, with cards, coins or objects, or illusions in the style of David Copperfield, it's all CGI rubbish.
But having stuck with it for weeks I'll go on suffering to the end.
2 left to go I think.

That's 7 hours of my life I won't get back.
It was crap.
It was crap.
I used to read Dr.Strange in the marvel comics in the seventies. Dr stephen strange master of the mystic arts. norrell must be his enemy Murdo. Seems a bit of a coincidence. some subliminal hokey pokey. they even had an issue were strange went back in time to napoleon's time to fight murdo.
i also enjoyed the film troll - starring the character Harry Potter Sr and Harry Potter jr. about a magical land in the basement of an apartment complex. Starring Michael Moriarty and Noah Hathaway as a child star.
can the writer's come up with original names. I'm currently writing a fictional book about a gallery owner called indiana johnston in the 19th century who battles evil painters in Paris who are attempting to subvert the art market. the film is called - traders of the lost art.
