really great film for half an hour or so then loses its way a bit. leaves a lot of interesting questions hanging about '1st world" intervention in "3rd world" matters & the toll war takes on the human psyche tho. clint eastwood is a skilled director as we saw in the more impressive (imho) flags & letters movies.

You didn't have to worry about the spoiler alert Casemoney, Acey got there a few hours later.
I thought it was pretty good in places, but I wouldn't want to have to watch it again. 6/10 for me.

The poor diddumses at 'Newsnight' were so perturbed by this film that they SEETHED about 'why isn't anyone making anti-war films anymore?' and 'is this what American identity is all about these days?'.
Boo hoo hoo.

When viewed after "The theory of everything", or "The imitation game" (after all, all three are based on real events), it is shown up as the cheap averagely acted, poorly scripted sad propaganda tool for the US military and Government that it is, and at best keep 10 year old boys/American teens happy for a few hours.

Entertaining enough, although obviously filmed through american rose-tinted spectacles. The action sequences were a bit drawn out and repetitive, no better or worse than Black Hawk Down but the yanks, predictably, have gorged on it anyway, despite the fact that in real life Kyle appears to have been a somewhat unsavoury character.
6/10 for glossiness, but not one to watch twice imo.

Took the 50s the other week for best film at the oscars.
It's a decent film that Jeewish Hollywood loves. The film is average IMO, though Cooper is excellent as usual.

It's not as good as some make out or as much of a recruiting sergeant for war that others make out. It could have gone to another level had the film asked some of the difficult questions but in seeking to make a fairly accurate depiction of the memoir, Eastwood doesn't ask them because the man himself didn't. He was a linear person who saw things in back and white and acted accordingly and that is how his story was told.

Agreed. Absolute garbage film imo. The bit where he is in gun battle and she is on the other end of the phone, cringeworthy.

I've already said I have no interest in watching it, though I'm sure I eventually will. That said, I'd be very surprised, and even more disappointed than I already am, if it was 'absolute garbage,' as I love Eastwood's films, generally.

It is very cheesey. BC, trained sniper, there to protect his troops from afar yet decides to get stuck in and takes the lead role questioning a civilian. WALOS. He would get hi balls chopped off if he left his post protecting his squaddies. Then when he does get into a battle, he just happens to be on the phone to his wife back home who listens to the battle. Typical over hyped American guff
